DS Daily: You make the call

One of the
big stories we've been following here at DS Fanboy is the rumor of us seeing a new DS at this year's E3. Whether it just be a more slim and sleek version of the DS Lite, or a complete redesign, we're hopeful that Nintendo will provide us with a more appealing handheld to plunk money down on this summer.
What do you all think, though? What are the odds that we could see a new DS from Nintendo at this year's show? Do you find it highly likely, or are we just getting our hopes up for no reason?

I doubt we'll see a redesign. The Lite is selling well, and I don't think it can get much smaller while still remaining comfortable to hold. A new system will probably be Nintendo's next move, and that's at least a year away.

The main reason I picked a DS over a PSP is backwards compatability. I think it'd be a mistake to drop it.

I think it would be more likely for them to simply add a new color scheme or a themed unit than a full on redesign.

I think if Nintendo dose come out with a redesign-thinner, sleaker, stronger, it will come with some sort of flash memory drive(micro sd cards) and then i wish nintendo does something like you can still play your ds games on there and then tranfer you vc titles to your new ds and play then portable that would be very cool and also play your old gba games on there. that would be cool

If there IS a new DS this year, it will just be prettier, maybe lack a GBA port. I think you guys reported a while back that Nintendo didn't plan to change the hardware for a good 10 years.

well, if they do (or already did) make a new DS model, i would hope they made the buttons *click* every time you push them...
thats the reason i like the DS phat over the lite..... the lite's buttons, (although they are nice) do not click, and for me, every game seems easier with *click*ing buttons~

I've been hearing this rumor from just about every gaming news outlet. I'd love for it to be true....every iteration of their handhelds has only gotten better.

Is Nintendo cooking up an upgraded version of the DS? Probably, yeah. Their handhelds have always been a big hit, and coming out with a new/upgraded one every couple years keeps nintendo in the gaming headlines and on customer's minds (and checkbooks).
Will I personally buy it? Maybe, but not for a while. I'm happy with my DS Lite. if it has an internal hard drive and an online store with downloadable games/content, it will be a much shorter while.
