What's most amusing about this record is that, according to Capcom's blog, Guinness arrived at it without even considering all the Mega Man games -- basically, they failed to arrive at a full count, and Mega Man still beat other series. They didn't just forget Japan-only releases like Wily & Right no Rockboard, either -- Mega Man Soccer failed to make the list, and that was a U.S.-released game starring the original Blue Bomber. No doubt it omits Hi-Tech Expressions' Mega Man and Mega Man III as well.

Why is the original blue bomber not at the front?

Because, even when celebrating the series's anniversary, they're still trying to market the newest version. Not that I don't like MM:ZX (it's probably the best thing to happen to the series in years, anything to get away from the battle network series and back to the original 2D shooter formula), but it is a bit sad to see the first Megaman pushed to the side like that.

It's even sadder that Mega Man games are no longer about robots, but kids who shout anime-sounding phrases to transform into superheroes.
How does the gameplay in ZX compare to MMZ, btw?

Yeah, pretty sad, it should be:
MM:ZX
Megaman Battle Network Zero
Megaman legends X
Megaman
Can you see the picture here? Left side of megaman is the backwards history of the blue bomber, while the right side is onward history. I think i'm failing to get the back history of battle network, but as far as I know, is how the whole thing of the megaman thing started

I SECOND THAT, 1st Blue Bomber should be up front since without him we'd have none of the newer games.

Agreed - MM and X should be prominently displayed in the front.

I think this is incorrect.
I realize we're talking about games based on the character not games in which the character appeared. But check out this list of games mario has appeared in. I would count just about any game with mario in the name (excluding duplicates for regions) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Mario_games_by_year
My apologies if I misunderstood what's meant by 'in a series'. Your comments about spin-offs and mega man soccer would lead my to conclude that games like "Mario's Early Years! Fun with Letters" would make mario's list.

First person to bash the Battle Network series gets an internet punch to the face by me.
That's right. I'm a Mega Man fanboy.

How about a Hawaiian Punch? I stopped playing Mega Man anything once the X series jumped the shark (somewhere around X5 - X6). I could say I don't like the Battle Network series, but to be fair I've never even tried them.

That doesn't sound right. There have to be more Mario (insert sport/activity/passtime here) games than Mega Man games.

It's hard not to be aware of a console that only arrived 9 years ago. Even the little kids who cut thier teeth on MegaMan 8 should know what the wonderswan is.

Most Mega Man fans disowned those games. I know I did *shudder*.
