RPG's and adventure games have been my favourites - The World Ends with You, Shiren the Wanderer, Final Fantasy 3, Professor Layton, all the Ace Attorney series...
Or really anything that's just fun, interesting, different and designed specifically around the DS's capabilities.

Anyways, I think RPGS (especially action RPG's Eragon KH 358 yummy ;) )
and those touch based Role Playing Games.
Any FPS or 3rd person Game that uses the touchscreen (and preferrably wifi is good too !

Gotta go with strategy games like Advance Wars, and that new Fire Emblem that's coming out. Also, some RTs' are good when the AI isn't retarded. Plus, FPS' *coughcoughMetroidPrimeHunterscoughcough* work amazingly well with the Touch screen aiming. So they DS is a very well rounded handheld that can handle almost any game type really.

Upon first seeing the DS I assumed we'd see a flood of 2D shooters flooding the market. Something along the lines of Nanostray and Bangai. But that hasn't been the case. In fact, if you include Geometry Wars, those are the only games I can currently think off that fit that mould.
I believe the DS is strongest at side scrollers. I just wish there were a few more aside from the obvious big hitters. The lesser know games look a little...

For me, definitely RPGs like Pokemon and Multiplayer games like Bleach and Mario Kart. With MKWii, however, the latter has been replaced... with Ouendan 2.

The best use i've seen so far is in puzzle games and platformers.
I really liked what Phantom Hourglass did, though. Game made you think with every aspect of the hardware. The one where you had to shut the DS to create a mirror image on the bottom screen amazes me to this day.

You had to close the DS in Hotel Dusk to give someone the kiss of life, so it's a pair of clever games.

I would have to say rpg's (ZeldaPH, FFIII) and platformers (New SMB) And I really do like the fps controls in Metroid PH but I can only play in 15 min increments (hand cramps) as well as the controls for Starfox

The world ends with you is so far the best game I've played that used a lot of the DS's possibilities. What game asks you to turn it off just to get points?
Professor Layton is very impressive too. I liked how they allowed you to write on the screen for some of the puzzles.

Honestly from what I've seen three things have really come into their own on this format and grow.
-RPGs
-Simulation/Strategy
-Storybook
-Puzzles
RPGs is obvious with the FF throw downs, the coming DQ games (9 and the 3 re-released upgrades), and then the various others out and coming too from traditional to the dungeon crawler stuff like Orcs and Elves.
Simulation/Strategy would be Sim City, Age of Empires, Zoo Tycoon (or even the shovelware tycoons), Anno 1701, Lionel Trains and more.
Storybook would be Trace Memory(Another Code), Hotel Dusk, Touch Detective 1 and 2 1/2, Phoenix Wright, and so on there.
Puzzles are well duh a given... Zookeeper, Tetris, Puzzle League, Mahjong Quest, Puzzle Quest, Picross DS, and many others.
Each of those really do very very well on the system and the device really just seems so well custom built for that stuff. Other genres could greatly benefit from the DS setup, in particular the FPS with the likes of CoD4, Bros in Arms, Dementium, Metroid, and sadly little else and it works so well with the panel.

Adventure games, definitely. the Ace Attorney series, Trace Memory, and I still need to play Hotel Dusk and the Touch Detectives.
Although puzzle games are a strong contingent too, with Meteos, Picross & especially this incarnation of Tetris.
Layton is good so far too(over a hundred puzzles in.), and it is something of a hybrid of the two.
