If you've sworn off Igarashi's Castlevania titles, frustrated with rehashes of the same Metroidvania formula, stay away from this Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia video! It might be enough to bring you back! You'll see some reused sprites, and the general format doesn't look too different from previous entries, but the art direction in the first cinematic half is, as we've noted before, all the way live.
As for the in-game clips, there's plenty to keep you interested, like action scenes with the Manges Glyph, a field that envelopes female lead Shanoa and can be used to cling to metal rods or fling the heroine across the screen. One of the boss fights also seems to herald the return of ... Mr. Crabs?! Back from the dead!
So, are you excited yet?

Looks good. Weird ending, though.

It's actually the US version, as stated on the site. They used the video from the press event in US previously. Lazy? Most likely not. Maybe too busy refining the game to be the best one till now!

Does anyone else find it odd that the enemy who picks up and starts leeching health from the protagonist at the very end of the clip behaves exactly like a Metroid?
It's almost as if Konami is acknowledging that the Castlevania series has filled the void left by Nintendo's refusal to develop a 2D Metroid.
"Ha ha! See, we know about the term 'Metroidvania' and we're tipping our hat to the fans while proving we have a sense of humor about these things."
Then again, I'm probably just overanalyzing.

I've yet to be disappointed by a Metroid-like Castlevania. They're just fun.

Portrait of Ruin was my first Castlevania since the old NES version and I loved it. This one has shot up to the top of my list of games to get and can we talk about how awesome the ship background is?
Any word on a release date/preorder bonus yet?

Seriously, we can. The Ship blew me away. I had to watch it twice to pay attention to anything else.
I'm really glad that Devs are taking advantage of the capabilities of the DS. Hell, ASH and this new Castlevania look better than most Wii games I own.

I've never been able to get into these games. I mean, they look fantastic but when playing dawn of sorrow i just seemed to wander around killing the same baddies while trying to work out what to do until I eventually died and had to do it all again.
