Whenever anyone announces one of these limited edition DS Lite systems in Japan, we try to push them out of our memories immediately after reporting them here, afraid that if we dwell on these designer handhelds too long, we'll only make ourselves even more depressed than we already are. Just when we think we've put these fantasies of owning rare portables behind us, however, someone always has to remind us that they exist.
DS Fanboy reader Supa_s, for example, sent in photos of her Honeyee x Fragment Design DS Lite, a slick, duotone system from seminal streetwear designer Hiroshi Fujiwara. Though she's hesitant to reveal where she obtained the remarkable handheld, she admits that it wasn't cheap -- approximately $400. Yeah, totally banoodles.
Buying the accompanying Honeyee x Fragment Design case would have cost her an additional $100, so she skipped that extra purchase, using a Club Nintendo case instead to carry the system. Her impressions on the system? "I love it, but I worry about the L & R buttons getting yellowish. I like the way it feels -- it's kind of like the bottom part of the Cobalt DS, but much smoother." Hit the gallery below for more photos of the Honeyee x Fragment Design DS Lite.
If you need us, we'll be staring at our plain, ordinary DS Lite from across the room, crying over dreams deferred, haunted by the ghosts of what should have been.

I don't have the luxury of dropping that much cash on a DS, though I admit, I am sorely tempted to go sell a limb for some of the limited editions I've seen (Pokemon!).
Props to her for her devotion!!
Right now I'm working on getting my husband's spousal visa (he's British, I'm American) so, all my money has been absorbed into a black hole called 'the government'. However, once that's taken care of, he's said he wants to buy me one of those new awesome Lime Green DS Lite's that Europe is getting. Woohoo! Sure, it's not limited edition, but not many folks in America (especially where I live in the middle of nowhere) are going to have them! :)

These are all over yahoo japan auctions along with a bunch of other expensive limited DS consoles. What I don't understand is why someone would buy one of these to play. It's more of a collectors edition.

I don't have access Yahoo JP auctions (it'd be cheaper to buy from there) But you're right, it's more of a collectible. Currently using the white DSL and Cobalt blue

supa, unfortunately they are pretty much just as expensive on yahoo japan.
here is a link.
If you ever need to actually buy from Yahoo Japan, just look up deputy service on google. They have a bunch of companies that order for customers out of Japan.
It is a beautiful DS though, so nice accquisition!

Congrats on getting one supa_s. Nice to see others around here who can appreciate this particular DS and why the prices might be up there.
I wanted one when I saw my first pictures of it months ago.
