DS Daily: European vacation

DS Fanboy reader Creighton emailed us, asking for some Europe-only game recommendations (as in, DS games that are available in Europe but not the U.S.). You see, he's leaving for Europe in a few days and wants to take advantage of his chance to pick up some goodies while he's there. So, how about it, readers? Can you think of any titles indigenous to Europe that he should keep his eyes out for?
What if you happened to be taking a trip to Japan? What games would you be sure to pick up while you were there? Or, if you were taking a trip to North America?

I believe that Tingle game (Tingle's Freshly-Picked Rosy Rupeeland or something like that) was only released Europe (well, apart from Japan, but point is that it skipped North America).

If you go to Germany, Undercover Dual Motives (A nice point-n-click adventure) has been released there. Don't be fooled by the German box and booklet, the game is in English.

Is the DS region free? I know the Wii isn't, but never attempted to import games from other regions for the DS.

I'm going to have to 2nd the Tingle's Freshly-Picked Rosy Rupeeland. I've imported it from Europe and it really is an interesting game (very different gameplay from anything I've seen before....)
If visiting Japan, I'd have to suggest Jump! Ultimate Stars, a fighting game with over 300 characters from various anime, and Daigasso! Band Brothers, a music game that's somewhat like Guitar Hero using the buttons on the DS, but the best part of it is that it allows you to make your own music on the go.

I know it's a fighting game and a great knowledge of the Japanese language is needed, but I'd still like to know how to navigate the menus and read what they're saying.

You don't really need extensive knowledge of the Japanese language in order to enjoy the game. If you know Katakana (one of Japan's 3 alphabets), you'll be able to figure almost everything out yourself. The reason for this is because all the characters' names are in Katakana so if you know it, you won't have to click on each one to figure out who they are (by the picture)
For the missions and objectives, there's a beautiful guide up on Gamefaqs by Genroh that has the translation for all the missions and objectives. It also has a really good explanation of the menu and how the game actually works.
The only thing you can't really enjoy is the J-Quiz that you unlock as you go. There's like 17000 lines (or something really insane) in the questions and I don't think there exists anyone out there with enough patience to get through that.
Anyway, I do suggest you learn Katakana though, because it will make the game all that much easier. It's the alphabet used to spell out foreign words (Ex: the word for "class" is pronounced "kurasu" and is spelled in Katakana) so if you can recognize the characters, you'll be able to understand it.

Having lived in Japan, and about to move back, I've been making a list of stuff I want to pick up, I'd recommend: Ouendan 1 & 2, Daigasso Band Bros. DX, Mother 3, Rhythm Tengoku Gold. I have Jump Super Stars, but probably would have enjoyed it more if I had friends to play with. If you enjoy Kirby, Stafy is a good choice too.

Chronos Twin was only released in Europe. It's a bit hard to get now but if you search hard enough you should be able to find it.
Though, the game is rather difficult.

If you like Neves, then I'd suggest Tangram Mania. The only other one that comes to mind is Lucky Luke, which is a really fun collection of mini games. Due to some un PC-ness it will probably never come out here. If you like adventure titles, "Runaway, The Dream of the Turtle" is Euro only so far. There's also a lot of 505 Street games that haven't been released here.

I'm soon coming to an end to my extended stay in England, and would like to bring home Tingle, maybe one of the Top Trumps DS games (if I can find it on the cheap at the pawn shop or something, probably the Dr. Who one) and Kira Kira (now that I know it isn't available at home).
