We love when the Konami Code
shows up in pop culture, as it reminds us of one of our favorite games (
Contra, obviously, which made the code famous in North America). The latest place for the infamous code to infiltrate was Google's RSS feed reader, Google Reader. When you have the reader open to its home screen, just press up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A. This causes your sidebar to turn blue while a Ninja pops up with the text "Moshi moshi," which is a Japanese telephone greeting.
Another cute thing about this easter egg is the number of unread articles for every site on your list, which is automatically changed to thirty. If this reference is lost on you, a player is given thirty lives upon entering the code in the original
Contra, which helps
a lot. Unfortunately for wussies like ourselves, the cheat
doesn't provide as much of a cushion in
Contra 4, but we digress.
