Many of us here are Nintendo fanatics, so much so that we'll line up to buy a system at launch. Others are more careful about their purchases, waiting until the right circumstances before committing to a console or handheld. Wherever you fall, we assume that by visiting this site, you at least have some appreciation for the Nintendo DS.Still, we're curious -- what was the first DS game that made you realize Nintendo's handheld was right for you? We're not asking about the first one you bought (although that may happen to be the same game), but what was the first title you played that really sold you on the DS?

Well I was pretty hyped about the DS since just before it was released in the UK. I had it pre-ordered with Super Mario 64 DS but a week before it came out, I played Wario Ware Touched in Toys 'R' Us and that convinced me that the DS was something special (and made me change my pre-order =P)

The DS Lite and New Super Mario Bros. I didn't like the old style DS.

The system itself lured me in. The 2 screens and a touch screen made me get excited :D - and to think the first game I got for it was Asphalt Urban GT back on Christmas 2004. Now I own an original Silver DS, and a Dialga & Palkia Edition DS Lite, and 48 DS games =D
I love DS! ^_^ Touching is good =D

Phoenix Wright and Trauma Centre, though I ended up *loving* the first and shrugging off the latter.

It was Sonic Rush that gave me the NEED for a DS. To see the 2.5D graphics, the action spanning both screens, and just the pure feeling of speed the game had sold me on the DS.
Plus the fact that I'm a total Sonic nut helped too.

Dorkily enough, the Japanese dictionary "game," which officially made DS the cheapest Japanese dictionary with writing input that ALSO played awesome games. It pretty much won.

Same for me. Originally I intended my DS to be a cheap electronic dictionary (there's a Korean dictionary available as well as Japanese). I had my PSP for games (Densha de Go and Jet de Go were my favorites). Then I discovered Air Traffic Chaos. My PSP now sits gathering dust while my DS is my primary machine.

I bought my DS at launch but the game that made it worthwhile was Hotel Dusk a year and a half ago. There are games released earlier which could easily have occupied the same position, but I didn't add very much to my DS library until later in 2007.

The games that sold me on getting a DS were Lifesigns(which took forever to come over, and I prefer it to Trauma center), Phoenix Wright, Megaman Battle Network 5(which I still haven't really played as I sort of burned out on the series for a while after playing all of the GBA ones that were out at the time one right after another.) and Feel The Magic.
Feel the Magic was the first of those I got and It really showed me firsthand what the DS could do that wasn't possible on the GBA. Up until I got that it was being used as a Pokemon pinball machine. (I didn't care much for the Metroid First Hunt demo that came with it.)

It was definitely Trauma Center for me. Though it's been quite some time since I got my DS and I still dont have Trauma Center. :'(
Atleast I have Animal Crossing to keep me busy.

Nintendogs...only now do I realize how pathetically boring that game is. These days I've been playing lots of Phoenix Wright, Apollo Justice, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, and Mario (as usual! lol.)

Advance Wars. Proved the graphics were good enough, that the stylus was optional, and that it wasn't all Mario and virtual pets.

The simultaneous release of New Super Mario Bros. and the DS Lite pretty much made up my mind, but I justified the purchase with an interest in other titles, namely those with M-a-r-i-o in the title. Turns out there are actually other good games on the handheld, too.

It's strange how the imported Bleach DS did it for me, as I understand almost nothing of it 'till this day, but the gameplay (and my love for Bleach) convinced me. My first game (which I could also understand) was the first Phoenix Wright game, which I bought in a far away city where I had been on vacation, hoping it will be good. I was pleasantly surprised. It was the best buy I could do here at home(I haven't seen that game since then on shelves anywhere, it was probably one of the 20 or something imported to my country).

When I first saw Elite Beat Agents on my brother's DS, I knew I had to have one. My first games were EBA, MKDS and Warioware Touched. Quickly discovered all the great RPG's the DS has to offer and my favorites are Etrian Odyssey and Rune Factory.

Mario Kart DS was my first purchase, and a game I had to have. I was really big on the original Mario Kart, having had massive time trial wars with friends back in the day. Between that title, Fire Emblem for slot-2, and the hardware being focused on games--not movies and music and the internet and such--I was sold. I've also been really big on supporting the Nintendo WFC, so the handheld and MK:DS were mandatory.
