Ubisoft announced a Prince of Persia game exclusive to our favorite handheld, titled The Fallen King. The storyline will be independent to any other Prince of Persia title, involving "imminent danger," a "deserted kingdom," "evil," "corruption," a "dark substance," "adventure," "intrigue," and a number of other clichés.You can expect the game to be heavy on the stylus action, and the player will have the ability to switch between the Prince and the Magus, a mysterious magic wielder. Now, normally we might show a little excitement for an upcoming Prince of Persia title. After the software's assets made us vomit out of our eyeballs, though, it was easy to subdue any inkling of "woot" hoping to flee from our bodies.
If the screenshot above isn't enough inclination of the slippery slope this game is heading down, check out the character art in the gallery below. The chibi-style Prince just isn't working for us. Perhaps we're being too harsh (what, us?), but we think Ubisoft deserves a little flak for this one. Hopefully the company will improve upon a few things before The Fallen King releases this holiday season.
Even so, we always like to give the gameplay the benefit of the doubt, and we'll be keeping our eyes on this one as it develops.
[Thanks, jojomcjojostein!]

I've said it before, about other franchises, but why not just remake the original PoP? That was a perfectly good game.

I doubt DS Fanboy can be called harsh in the least. You guys seem more than willing to hype a lot of games that I wouldn't even think anyone would be able to.

Ubisoft Exec: "Remember team, it's Nintendo, so let's think naueseatingly cute and low-tech. The profits from this benefit our next PS360 project!"
Designer: "How about Chibi, it's easy to draw and uber-cute. Those pokemon-playing Nintendo kiddies will eat it up!"
Exec: "Brilliant! Slap a gimmick on there and get to work!"

I laughed... and then I cried, because it's too close to the truth.

When I first saw the Prince concept art, I thought it was something someone found on DeviantArt. I was completely taken aback.
But, the actual in-game screenshot looks very clear and easy to read, which is especially important when dealing with the DS's tiny screen. So, maybe this new art style is a good thing in the long run. And if the gameplay measures up, then all the better.

Yeah, the Prince in chibi form looks kind of weird. Everything else looks pretty ok to me, honestly. Hell, even being small is ok with me. But he shouldn't be doing that weird half-smile he's got going on. It's unfitting for the franchise.
But I suppose it's better than heading to the polar opposite of this...and that's Godsmack. So I'll take the good with the bad for this one.

Ubisoft doesn't deserve to make video games. What is this crap?
