Didn't we have this topic a while ago already?
I think the DS could do with fewer strategy games. I feel they're taking developers' time away from real RPGs.

agreed @ having it a little while ago. I say the simulation stuff...I do enjoy cooking mama and had my fair share of nintendogs but I think there's just too many simulation games out there.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with deja vu. I think training games are getting a little out of hand, especially when half of them are just clones of existing trainers.

In defense of Ubisoftz though, they're also the first to come out (hopefully there'll be more companies who realize there's a huge demand for it) with a My Japanese Coach. That's gotta count for something.

Frankly, I don't really care if Ubisoft feels like flooding the DS with crap, because I'm smart enough to know what I want and thankfully the crap isn't stopping other developers from making worthwhile games. I have to say, I'm pretty satisfied, the rest of 2008 is looking good. Now if these Babyz (and all the other shovel ware) were actually impacting the amount of quality releases then I would be angry. Sure it would be nice to not have to see these games on the shelves, but when money is involved, companies will always try to sell some of this crap on any and all systems. Since the DS is so popular (and seen as kid friendly), it has a disproportional amount of it. Remember, the GBA never had this amount of crap because it never had the feverish popularity that the DS has. In the end, I'm willing to put up with all the shovel ware, as long as I still get plenty of quality games ;)

Yeah, ____z games aren't at all threatening to any of us, but I think that people can take valid umbrage with the flood of Ubisoft games and other shovelware titles on the grounds that they have the potential to stunt the growth of younger game owners. A child whose initial gaming experiences are conceptually unimaginative or overtly kid-friendly is more likely to drop the hobby before ever experiencing anything better due to the feeling that they're "growing up" and out of games, which they perceive as taking care of cute animals and platforming with Nickelodeon characters. At a certain age these things cease to be stimulating, and highly self-conscious tweens/early teens fear showing immaturity (despite not even knowing what it means) more than almost anything. Beginning female gamers are especially prone to this due to an inordinate amount of shovelware being devoted to so-called "girl games", patronizing garbage devoted to style, animals, mini-games, etc.
Even if a young gamer doesn't drop the hobby outright, they're never going to experience the richness and inspiration that come with games that cater toward a more developed taste. Truly good games have the power to enrich lives; I really believe this. I should assume that a large portion of gamers received their first console as a gift as a child, or otherwise desired a particular system but had no knowledge of the games available for it. When I was 11 I received a Game Boy Pocket and N64 for Christmas--if I hadn't had played Pokemon Yellow and Super Mario 64 briefly afterward, I could have easily been attracted to anything in a bargain bin or with a familiar cartoon character slapped on the cover and gained a negative impression of the entire hobby. I was originally going to get Star Wars: Yoda Stories for the GB and Glover for the N64--when I finally did play both of those out of curiosity some time later, they both turned out to be crap and I realized how close I came to permanent disappointment. I realize that this makes me somewhat of an exception to my own rule considering that I was in charge of some of my earliest game purchases, but the fact still stands for a lot of young people. Sorry this is so longwinded, but I thought I'd just throw in my two cents.

you make a valid point. I guess my younger brother is lucky that he has me because I usually know which games he will like and what crap to avoid. ^^ I was also lucky because when I got my first system (NES) it came with Super Mario Bros. 3. I wasn't feverishly obsessed with games however, until I tried Pokemon Blue and discovered the RPG genre, which is my personal favourite since that fateful day.

Well of course we don't have to buy all those crap titles, yet it spoils something for me. It just feels weird, to name the DS your favourite handheld, when it is known for shovelware. People are already laughing at me probably and think I am playing Imagine Babiez.
Kimiko: Oh yes, stuff like "My Word Coach" is great though. I just recently ordered "My Chinese Word Coach" and can't wait to try it out. I hope it'll work at least a bit.

All those Thingz
The Imagine line
Mainly 80% of Ubisoft's publisments.
I am so-so in trainer games and navis because there are soem things you just might want to get better on. For example I am loking forward My Japanese Coach for a bit of basic knowledge as I am studying Mandarin CHinese at school.

We need less games that make the DS look like it's just for kids. Quality, not Quantity.
Japan has got it right with it's Learn to speak (other language) type games. More!

Less strategy RPGs/Tactical RPGs and Dungeon Crawlers.
More "things classified as RPGs in the 90s."
Personal preference. It seems like there's literally both three dungeon crawlers/Rogue type games AND three strategy/tactical RPGs for every Dragon Quest IX/FFIII/Chrono Trigger DS announced.
