DS Daily: Phantasy Star ZOMG
Despite it only existing in scan form, we're already absolutely ga-ga about Phantasy Star Zero, Sonic Team's new online RPG that will use an ingenious, Pictochat-style chat system. If you're as ridiculously excited as we are, then you've probably played one of the glorious Phantasy Star Online titles on the Dreamcast, GameCube, or PC.
So today, because we just can (and because we can't think of a decent question), we're opening the floor to Phantasy Star Online chat in general -- feel free to regale us with your favorite memories of previous PSO games, your hopes for the DS version, or, if you want to be a total spoilsport, how the online games ruined the series for you.

Hah dammit, I was going to say the same thing.
It doesn't matter the game, but wherever you have a chance for your drawings to be seen there is BOUND to be penises. Fact of life.

I really hope they bring this stateside. I'd be too tempted to import it otherwise.

I was one of the few who enjoyed Phantasy Star Universe on the PS2. I played offline, by myself, for the sheer meditation of pointless grinding, trying out classes and weapons. I stopped playing only because TV time in my home had to be invested in child shows. Having it portable, on my console of choice no less, is having some stranger pour delicious jam on already pretty sweet ice cream.

Jesus, how much I played this game, when I was smaller. First, I had the offline version (or at least, I was playing it offline), when I was... I don't know, maybe 12, but it was a long time ago, at least 6 or 7 years from now.
Then a couple years ago out came some kind of MMO beta version, where there where some changes in the graphics, but the whole game was the sweet nostalgic thing, which I had played when I was younger. The familiar (mainly the same) levels, the leveling and feeding of those little hovering thingies above your shoulders was just awesome. Plus you could speak to anyone, team with anyone, take missions alone or with complete strangers... It was just pure wonderful, even if it was pretty pointless. Then one day, when I wanted to get online, a strange screen greeted me: the game became "'real" and if I wanted to play, I should have payed. That was impossible because of various reasons (one being I live in a country from where I couldn't have p(l)ayed, even if i wanted to), so that was it for me of PSOs... until now! If they ever going to translate it, it's going to be the first pre-order of my life(or maybe not, if there will be some really really bad reviews or previews of it).
I'm really looking forward to playing this game, which was fantastic in itself, now it's online, and with pictochat... if they don't do something terribly wrong with it(like halving the game, taking out the combo system or ruining the controlls), it's going to be awesome.

I really doubt they'll bring this stateside considering SEGA hasn't and probably has no plans of bringing Phantasy Star Portable for the PSP stateside.
Regardless, I really hope this turns out like its PSP counterpart. Been playing it lately and it's so very much fun. Though, if this is somehow a re-incarnation of PSO on the DS, I won't complain either.

Most of you probably know, but for those that don't, the Sega Genesis Collection contains Phantasy Star 2-4. I believe this is available on the PS2 and PSP.

I was hoping this would of been a prequel to Phantasy Star 1 but I guess the real Phantasy Star's are dead.
I've never played any online Phantasy Star so my memories are with the original games.

On the bright side, the original Phantasy stars had classic stories with great characters. Since this isn't part of that canon, the current sega, which is nothing more than a shadow of sega's old fecal matter, can't mess that up.
I won't lie though, I can't wait for this.

Looking very much forward to this, I only hope for a decent framerate and an easy system to team up with random's.
