video from the mobile version
Listen, we're appreciative of all versions of Settlers of Catan (except the card game, mostly), but this is the version we've been waiting for: the DS-bound Catan: The First Island. Really, it could have been called Catan: A Crappy Version and we'd still be chest-bumping and high-fiving; on this one, we're easy to please. Got numbers? Resources? We can make jokes about sheep? Done. There are no details available right now beyond the fact that there will be a DS version of the mobile Catan: The First Island released sometime, and it'll be similar to the game in the video above, but this is definitely one to keep an eye on.

well i can honestly say woohoo!
I actually liked the game when i had my xbox360, was actually thinking of buying a used 360 to play the game again (with a few others i purchased before as well)
But if its comming out for the DS sometimes , that would be sweet.

You could also buy the board game; ya know, they still make board games =p.

Amen to that. I think people are starting to catch onto board game games now and seem to be forgetting they can just play the actual board game. Playing Settlers on the PC is fun, but it feels like I'm playing "Guitar Hero Hero".

As long as it's budget priced, I'll give it a look. It's hard as heck to get people to sit down for the tabletop game.

I know.
I'd sell my wife, unborn children, and most of my legs for a Carcassonne game on the DS.
(Yes, I know about the XBLA version, but I don't want an Xbox.)

And Risk enthusiasts such as myself have seen five years go by since a console release. Why is there no online-enabled game for DS/Wii/WiiWare? I'd even take a straight port of the PS2 version at this point.

I think I just...yeah.
News like this is awesome indeed. Not only is it hard to get enough people to play, the board game costs an arm and a leg to buy.

Wait, a board game costs an arm and a leg? Compared to a video game? WTF? I call BS.
If you give a damn about who you are playing with, tabletop is better than PUG online any day. Unless you just want to crush strangers. In which case, forget tabletop gaming altogether.

The Settlers board game costs between $40 and $50, and that's before the $35 expansions. Board games that aren't Monopoly or Ants in the Pants tend to be high priced. This game at the very most will be $30, I'd guess. So yeah, this'll be cheaper and much easier to set up.

Puerto Rico has been on DS for 2 years or so. Yea it's homebrew but it works. Can't Stop also has homebrew version. Boardgames are expensive for sure. I spent $250 on Settlers of Catan 3D edition worth every penny.

Yessss! This is a buy on day 1. Then let's get Puerto Rico, Pandemic, Carcassone... the possibilities are really endless for designer board games on DS.
