David Hinkle
York, PA - http://www.dsfanboy.com

David Hinkle first got his start in the gaming industry as a reviewer for a small time website in early 2004. After getting tired of little pay and the lack of recognition for his hard work, David sought employment elsewhere, eventually landing a job with Weblogs Inc. in March of 2005.

In October of 2006, David took over Site Lead duties for Wii Fanboy and left his day job working for an Air Conditioning company in Florida to blog full-time. He is still trying to convince friends and family that he actually has a job and doesn't just sit around the house all day in his underwear.

David can be reached through his email at david [at] dsfanboy [dot] com.

DS Fanboy presents: Game Night 7/26/07 aftermath

Sadly, personal obligations kept me from attending Game Night yesterday. This will not be the case next week, so I anxiously await that day. Until then, let's all sit back, relax, and prepare to enjoy the weekend. And, before you go and enjoy the upcoming days off from responsibility (for most of you, we imagine), why not vote for next week's theme game below? You might notice something different.

What should be our theme game for 8/2/07?
Planet Puzzle League
Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
Mario Kart DS
Tetris DS
Clubhouse Games
Picross DS

GeoWars producer chats up the game

Roger Carpenter, Sierra Entertainment producer, sat down with Modojo to discuss the Xbox Live port of Geometry Wars. They talk about all things, including the ability for DS owners to download a trial version of the game from the Wii (through the Wii game, natch), as well as the ability for the DS to download from another DS in the same manner. The remainder of the interview focuses more on adapting a bite-sized, $5 download into a much more fuller product, worthy of a higher price tag.

Any of you looking forward to this on the DS?

[Thanks, Cody!]

On the lookout for some homebrew?

We're always on the lookout for sweet homebrew to run on our DS, in the hopes that even more value may be extracted from our most sound of purchases. And, sure enough, we came upon this list of notable homebrew games while traversing the dangerous series of tubes today. Sure, we played some of the games on the list, but a majority of them are new to us. And we like new. Oh, how we like new.

What are your favorite homebrew games and/or applications to run on your DS?

DS Fanboy presents: Game Night 7/26/07

Can you feel that magic in the air? It's Thursday, which means it's time we all got our game on. Sadly, I won't be able to make it to the session tonight (I know many of you were looking forward to stomping me in Game X, sorry), but the other staff will be on-hand to game it up with you.

Hack your Game Boy into a drum machine

While we enjoy hacks just as much as the next blog, we're pretty sure we would never try this on our Game Boy. It's a treasure, to be held tightly at night as we drift off into a dream land filled with plumbers and bounty hunters. Some folk don't see it the same as we do, though, as they gutted open a Game Boy, stuffed it with 1MB of flash memory, a serial interface, and a custom ROM, turning it into the drum machine you see above.

Go to Comic-Con, get your Ace Attorney signed, play some games

If you're planning on attending Comic-Con, you might want to pack your copy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Why? Well, the game's producer Minae Matsukawa, will be on-hand to sign autographs. If you're as obsessed with the lawyer-em-up titles as we are, then such a prospect is reason enough to attend.

Outside of that, Capcom will be bringing lots of their products to the show, apparently. Game stations with DS titles Mega Man Star Force, Mega Man ZX Advent, and Ace Attorney will also be on-hand to enjoy. And, you can even have your photo taken with Mega Man and Harvey Birdman!

While we'd like to attend, unfortunately the airlines won't let us fly with our shackles on (driving is an option, but iron shackles really kill our gas mileage). And, while we'd like to take them off, our Joystiq overlords would never allow it, for we would be free to run away as fast as we can.

Want rumble? Do it yourself

If you're lacking the small amount of cash it would cost you to pick up a Rumble Pak of your own, there's always the DIY solution. With just a little elbow grease, a spare Pokemon Pinball GBA game, and a spare Nokia 5100, you can create your own Rumble Pak that fits in flush with your DS Lite. Of course, one could argue that it isn't worth the effort and suggest just plunking down the dough for one, but then you wouldn't have that sense of accomplishment that comes from doing it yourself and the future comfort of bragging to your friends that you're better than them.

Fresh Ring of Fates screens

Even with all signs pointing to Disappointmentville regarding the release date for Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates, we still foam at the mouth for anything we can get our hands on regarding the game. Whether it be screens or video, we can't get enough of the Square Enix game. And these latest screens are no exception, as they showcase some battle portions, as well as concept art.

It's a Wonderful World of advertisements

The fine folks over at JeuxFrance apparently got to visit Japan, recently. In taking their time to extract every bit of delicate and precious piece of Japanese culture they could before having to leave the gaming mecca, they managed to compile quite a gallery regarding the advertisement of Square Enix's It's a Wonderful World. They've got plenty of stuff from the Shibuya district, where the majority of the advertisements were shown.

Booze Training boxart (along with plenty of others) revealed

The NeoGAF forums have been flooded with a variety of boxarts for upcoming Japanese DS titles. Such titles include Chibi Robo Park Patrol, It's a Wonderful World and the above, EA's Bartender DS. Personally, we could use Bartender DS, as our mixed drinks are anything but, well ... drinkable. So, if boxart is your thing, be sure to hit up the NeoGAF thread.

Beach nurses promote Brain Age in Greece

Promoting Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!, these nurses you see above were on-hand at the beaches in Greece, providing beach-goers with an opportunity to test their brain's age while soaking up some sun. Seems like a cool marketing idea, but why go with the whole nurse theme? Personally, we think it would've been better if Nintendo flew Dr. Kawashima over to the beaches of Greece and had him approach folks with the DS ... wearing a Speedo.

On second thought, maybe that isn't the best idea. Carry on, Nintendo ...

DS Fanswag: Trioncube & Quickspot

Our desire to bestow upon you games with no price tag has gotten ahold of us again, as we prepare to give away not one, but two different DS games. Our giveaway has kind of a Namco Bandai feel to it, as we unload Trioncube and Quickspot on two lucky readers. How does one enter to win? It's just as easy as our other giveaways.

Simply leave a comment, any comment, within this post and you're entered. The contest ends on Saturday, July 28th at 11:59PM EDT. Enter before then and you're golden! We only ask that you keep your comments clean, as we're very decent folk here at DSF. For further rules, hit up the link below. Otherwise, good luck and thanks for reading DS Fanboy!

Japanese commercial get: Ecoris

It's no secret that we're very interested in Ecoris. With Wi-Fi compatibility included, plus the RTS theme, this game is quickly becoming the recipe for excellence. Even the game's big, spiky protagonist, Dorian, looks like the kind of main character we want in our games: completely ridiculous.

The latest Japanese commercial, which is embedded past the break, shows most of what we said. Keep in mind though that, like all Japanese commercials, the video is a bit shorter than what you're used to.

Lose your innocence with this Tales of Innocence trailer

Just days following Friday's announcement, a trailer for the latest Tales game has emerged on the internet. Weighing in at a little over two minutes, this trailer for the game manages to cram lots of content into a small package. With several large, expansive environments shown, as well as the game's intense-looking combat, we're very excited by what has been shown here.

Japan gets new Tales game

For those of you familiar with the Tales series of games (no doubt you played Tales of Symphonia on the Gamecube?), the DS is set to receive one of the franchise's entries. Tales of Innocence, which is a brand new entry in the series, is currently set to grace the DS in Japan this winter.

No word as of right now on when the game will release or if it will be made available in other territories, however since most of the games in the series have made their way to North America, we're fairly confident the game will make its way here.
