box art

Big, big week fanboys! I actually have no idea which DS games I'm going to pick up this week. I want them all! Here's where I'm leaning... Mario Hoops and Mech Assault. Agree? Disagree? With so many new games (and so many potential good ones), let's turn this weeks comments into a discussion about which of these games is worthy of our hard earned dollar and why.

DS Releases

  • Cooking Mama
  • Harvest Moon DS
  • LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy
  • Mario Hoops 3-On-3
  • Mech Assault: Phantom War

GameBoy Advance

  • Cheetah Girls
  • LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy
  • Little Einsteins
  • My Little Pony: Crystal Princess

As always, availability is subject to manufacturer delivery.

All your PSP are belong to us!

Our first strike against PSP Fanboy was a complete success. But, while this battle is won, the war continues. If you're new to the "Great Portable War of 2006," here are a few links to catch you up (the bottom-line is that the PSP fanboys unleashed some anti-DS propaganda that we just can't let stand).
  1. PSP Fanboy draws first blood
  2. DS Fanboy reacts
  3. DS Fanboy strikes back
We expect retribution from the PSP "croud" at some point, but they've gone silent for now. So, naturally, we're going to kick them while they're down and are launching another salvo via the rebuttal video above. This entry was submitted by long-time fanboy, Covarr, and takes the same approach as yesterday's entry from TomBot. While it may look like more of the same on the surface, make sure you read all of the text. Hilarious stuff!

Now, we still have another week-and-a-half for more entries. Let's get them in. And let's be creative. TomBot's video from yesterday was ranked the #2 comedy video on YouTube for the day. Do you want to be a war hero? Now is your chance! Send your submissions to fanboyvideo AT yahoo DOT com.

Remember, this is all for fun and laughs. Please, put your soapbox away.

[Thanks for the video Covarr!]

The DS strikes back

One day -- years from now -- your grandkids will look at you with innocent eyes and ask, "Pappy, where were you during the great portable wars of 2006?" You'll tear-up when answering, but your words will be strong, "Oh, little one, I was there when it all started. I was on the front lines. I was with DS Fanboy."

And so it begins... we've turned our keys and launched our first retaliatory strike against PSP Fanboy for exposing the world to the most heinous fanboy video ever unleashed. You still have nearly two weeks to enlist in this epic battle and make the world of console gaming a better place. Send your rebuttal video to fanboyvideo AT yahoo DOT com. This entry from TomBot sticks close to the PSP fanboy formula and achieves hilarious results.

Keep 'em coming! And, if this just makes you mad, or compels you to make sweeping speeches about how wrong hot fanboy vs. fanboy action is, then you need to de-emphasize the "boy" part of fanboy and remember the "fan" part of the equation. This is all in good fun. Until someone loses an eye. Which will likely be soon.

[Thanks for the video Tom!]

Are DS Fanboys better?

Are DS Fanboys better? If all we had to go by was the video above, the answer to that question would be a resounding yes! In a post entitled "When being a fanboy goes terribly wrong...," the PSP Fanboy crew took a moment to poke fun at themselves. And I think they were a bit embarrassed for their kind. Of course, we're going to take advantage of that and have a good laugh at their expense. The video should have you either ROTFL or MABDTTSIOTV (my appendix burst due to the sheer ignorance of this video).

Now, what's required here is a proper rebuttal video. Here's the challenge: create a 2 to 5 minute video that talks to the virtues of the DS in a fun and humorous way. If you're up to the task, we'll "air" our favorites right here on DS Fanboy. You've got two weeks, starting... now!

Just don't embarrass us. Send your fanboy video link to fanboyvideo AT yahoo DOT com.

Are you ready for some football? This week is all about Madden NFL 07, fanboys. I'll be watching the reviews closely on this one. I desperately want some portable gridiron goodness, but the inaugural DS edition of the game back in 2004 was a disaster of epic proportions.

What's your DS top 5?

The lesser fanboys over at our sister-site, PSP Fanboy, came up with a great little question to ask all the PSP owners: What are the top 5 PSP games currently available? In the spirit of showing them who really has the best games, we thought we'd let the DS fanboys take a shot at listing out their all-time DS faves (one thing is for sure, the DS has its fair share of great games. And, with today's announcement, there are plenty more just around the corner).

So, what's in your DS top 5? It's certainly all a matter of opinon, but we'll go first to get things going.

DS Fanboy's Top 5 Faves (or Ed's anyways)

  1. Advance Wars DS - sweet tactical combat with a sense of humor.
  2. Nintendogs - chicks dig it!
  3. New Super Mario Brothers - one word: Mario!
  4. Meteos - take that, Tetris!
  5. Ultimate Spiderman - yeah, I'm a big Spidey fan.

Now it's your turn to add yours to the comments below. Make sure you tell us the name of the game and why it's on your list of all-time DS faves.

DS releases for the week of July 17th

screen shotOnly one new game this week, Monster House. The movie isn't getting the best reviews, which probably doesn't bode too well for the game based on the movie, which hits theaters on July 21st.

"Monster House is a tale about three children who realize that their neighbor's house is really a monster. The game allows you to experience key moments of the movie as your explore the house and take on adventures."

If you pick this one up for your kids, let us know if they like it.

DS Releases

  • Monster House

Gameboy Advance

  • Monster House

As always, availability is subject to manufacturer delivery.

DS releases for the week of June 26th

Hi Hi Puffy screen shotIn case you didn't get enough Sudoku Mania last week, this week you can try Sudoku Gridmaster. Among both game's features are "mental anguish," "feelings of inferiority" and "brain hemorrages."

Of course, everyone is going to be talking about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest with the movie due out in early July. But, I have to spend a minute and talk about Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. Rather than using swords, guns or fancy moves, in this game players use the "powers of rock and roll" to defeat their enemies.  Your only weapon: instruments. This brings the band geek to a whole new level!

DS Releases

  • Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: The Genie & the Amp
  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans' Chest
  • Sudoku Gridmaster

Gameboy Advance

  • Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Mans' Chest

As always, availability is subject to manufacturer delivery. Also, the more you whine about Scurge, the further the publishers promise to push it back.

MechAssault developer tells all

MechAssaultAs we've talked about before, MechAssault: Phantom War is DS bound. It looked great on paper when it was announced months ago and it now appears to be coming along very, very nicely right in the middle of its development cycle. How do we know it's coming along so well? Because the developer has just launched a 6-part development diary via IGN.

"I'll be filling you in on all of the fun, unusual and sometimes gory details of what it was like to make this game at good old Backbone Entertainment in Emeryville, California," says game producer Sara Guinness.

What's nice about this particular developer diary is that you can tell the producers wrote it versus some shill from marketing. In fact, the series seems to be less about the new MechAssault game and more about the difficulties and opportunities in developing a full 3D game on the Nintendo DS. It makes for fun, informative reading.

Check out entry #1 in the MechAssault DS Development Diary (say that a bunch of times real fast) at IGN.

DS releases for the week of June 19th

SodukuIf you're caught up in "Sudoku Mania," you can now enjoy the puzzle craze on your own, personal DS. But, if you're a sports guy, a real Ping Pong pro, then check out Break Em All. It's action-packed and promises to elevate the heart rate.

DS Releases

  • Break Em All
  • Sudoku-Mania

Gameboy Advance

  • No new game releases this week

As always, availability is subject to manufacturer delivery.
