Irresponsible kids express their love for each other, live to regret it

Pokemaniac couple Andy and Jess decided to memorialize their devotion to each other recently by having a water-based Pokemon tattooed onto their girlish frames. According to Wikipedia, the matching Luvdiscs inked onto their stomachs promise "a loving relationship that never ends." Good luck on that, kids.
We'll see how much Andy loves that Luvdisc tattoo when he's 38 years old, Jess has been long forgotten, and dudes keep winking at him every time he brings his kids to the neighborhood swimming pool. I think we can all agree that there's only one Pokemon worth permanently etching into your skin -- Meowth.

It's-a-me, Martinet! Signing your DS!

DSes with signatures of Nintendo luminaries come up now and then, but a system with a moustachioed smiley face on it signed by a secondary figure like the voice of Mario is a rarity. eBay seller mus_ne is auctioning off this white DS Lite autographed and WooHoo!!!-graphed by Charles Martinet, for, well, rather a lot of money. It does come with screen protectors and a "DS Lite Cotton Sock," which ... still doesn't make the thing worth $400.
Just think: with this DS, you can be reminded of how Martinet totally ruined the Super Mario Advance games even when you're not playing the Super Mario Advance games.

Abortions and cheat codes
Have you kids seen Juno, the latest film from director Jason Reitman (Thank You For Smoking)? It's a coming-of-age tale about an eccentric 16-year-old managing her unexpected pregnancy, and, in spite of its Dawson's Creek-esque dialogue and unrealistic plot, it's also a pretty good film, in our opinion.Considering the ubiquity of the Nintendo DS, it didn't surprise us to see the handheld make a cameo in the movie, but the particular setting in which the DS appeared was a surprise -- an abortion clinic. A teenage receptionist taps away on her portable while handing medical forms to the titular character, right before offering her a complimentary boysenberry-flavored condom. "My boyfriend wears them every time we have intercourse," she praises. "It makes his junk smell like pie."
What could she have been playing on her DS, greeting and offering condoms to people all day while the women who've come in to get their "problems" fixed sit anxiously in the waiting room? Probably not Imagine Babyz!
That's not the only time video games come up in Juno, either! Halfway through "Anyone Else But You," a song by The Moldy Peaches that plays several times during the film, one of the singers croons out the famous Konami code. How awesome is that? There's also a shortened version sung by Juno's stars, Michael Cera and Ellen Page, on the official soundtrack; it's totally wizard. You can hear the original track and watch a trailer for Juno right after the break.
Sword stylus comes with Ninja Gaiden preorder
The boxart for Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword may have failed to impress us, but we should have guessed that the game had another trick up its proverbial sleeve. Remember this sword stylus stylus that we coveted like thy neighbor's wife? Now it can be yours, scabbard and all, with a preorder at your local EB/GameStop (or online here). We've come to the conclusion that we must have this preorder bonus. Playing your DS with a sword is the way of the ninja, after all.

Phantom Hourglass gashapon does not help our financial situation

You'll have to forgive
Which gashapon you receive is entirely random, though as they're all pretty fantastic (and did we mention cheap?), we can't see a lot of people complaining. Not when we'll happily take any like-for-likes you receive off your hands. We're kind like that, you see.

Purple DS, Purple DS

Seeking to convert his girlfriend, Rachel, into a handheld gamer, DS Fanboy reader Shawn wrapped this custom-painted Nintendo DS and put it under their Christmas tree along with copies of Nintendogs, Cooking Mama, New York Times Crosswords, and My Word Coach.
In order to achieve that smooth shine, the system was disassembled, sanded, primed, spray painted, then finished with a high gloss clear coat. Shawn chose the metallic sparkling purple, the color of royalty, because it's his girlfriend's favorite color. You can follow the project's progress and see more photos of the painted DS on Shawn's Flickr set.
Space Imbibers
These awesome water bottles would be perfect for keeping hydrated during marathon sessions of a certain notoriously addictive arcade game. Or maybe just for filling up with delicious Tang and sitting down at home with some Space Invaders Extreme. These aluminum bottles feature beautiful, vintage Space Invaders art and come with carabiners, in case you want to carry one up a mountain. NCSX will offer these in April at $12.50 each. The aluminum is apparently quite hardy, so trying to shoot through it to reach Invaders is not a sound strategy. They're also taking preorders on a set of three Space Invaders keychains, each consisting of an Invader encased in a plastic cube for your safety.
Mariotroid is the gaming mash-up of our dreams
It doesn't really irk us that this Mario/Metroid mélange is at least eight minutes too long, because it manages to confirm a sneaking suspicion that we've held for some time now: that there is a niche between 2D Mario and 2D Metroid games, just aching to be filled. We knew it!
Over to you, Nintendo.

The DS Life: Unwrapping

Provided they were on Santa's "Nice" list, hundreds of thousands of children (and adults, of course) woke up to find a dual-screened handheld under their tree yesterday. We like to imagine that these new DS owners held the system box high over their heads while The Legend of Zelda's "item fanfare" music played. We also like to picture them running to their computers shortly afterwards to load up and bookmark www.DSFanboy.com, as well.
Rather than spend too much time dwelling over what their reactions might have been like, why don't we take a look past the break for photos from ten different post-unwrapping scenes?
Two Lites enter, one Lite leaves

It's an odd creation, to say the least. And it can be yours for the low, low price of ... well, a little more than whatever the current bid is. As we peruse the listing, that's $81, but the auction's reserve has not yet been met.
A very Mario Christmas
How sad we are to see the holiday come to an end. No more Christmas tunes and hot cocoa just doesn't taste the same to us anymore. If only we had a giant mural like the one above to visit for an instant jolt of that Christmas feeling. It's a HUGE mural, if we may say so, and came out looking fabulous.

DS makes for a Lite lunch

The DS onigiri folds up to fit in its bento box, and is joined by shrimp, broccoli, carrots, and a hard-boiled egg to make a delicious meal for mushmo's lucky son. Honestly, we don't know if we'd be able to eat such a meticulously crafted food item. We'd feel guilty for ruining all that work, and we'd just go raid the fridge for some food that isn't shaped like stuff.
Gotta deck the halls
Looking for some cute Christmas music to play in the car during a family trip, Kotaku's Brian Crecente happened upon this horror: Pokémon Christmas Bash, a Pokémon-themed album of Christmas music from 2001. If you're curious, check out the samples on iTunes. If you like what you hear (for some reason), or want to give a last-minute gift of lulz, the album is available both on CD and in MP3 format from Amazon for the low, low price of $6.98.Featuring sure-fire holiday classics like "I'm Giving Santa a Pikachu This Christmas" and, uh, "Pokémon Christmas Medley," Pokémon Christmas Bash is destined to become part of every family's holiday collection, joining favorites like Ren & Stimpy's Crock O' Christmas.

You've got to know when to HOLD IT!

We've been taking our time getting through Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, savoring what is undoubtedly the best game in the series to date. But, try as we may have to delay it, the game is done. And now our frothing Ace Attorney fandom has no outlet until February -- except stuff.
Capcom has just released a set of playing cards containing character art spanning the whole series (including the upcoming Apollo Justice), called the Gyakuten Saiban Character Trump set. The best news (for us) is that it's available on Play-Asia! If you've ever wanted to spend $20 on a deck of cards, here's your chance. And we can keep those cards in the official Gyakuten Saiban card case.
(Hmm, there seems to be one major flaw in this post. Maybe we should go through the testimony again to find the contradiction.)
