Konami had to outsource the development of Gradius V out to someone, for budget reasons, and they made an inspired choice. Treasure's first project with Konami since leaving the company is both a completely accurate Gradius game, with appropriate powerups, enemies, and visuals, and an innovative shooter. Treasure added clever level designs, like a level in which the Vic Viper is assisted by a future version of itself, and customizable controls for Options. And it just happens to be one of the most beautiful scrolling shooters ever created.
