Panzer Tactics goes commando

Aside from its support for online multiplayer matches, one of the features that really make Panzer Tactics stand out to us when comparing it to other turn-based strategy titles (e.g. Advance Wars) is its employment of Commandos and Officers. Commandos essentially act as stealth operatives, sneaking into enemy territory and acting as an unseen nuisance to your opponent, whereas Officers improve the attributes of the troop they're assigned to and increase morale for surrounding allies.

The above three-and-a-half minute video, Panzer Tactics' third episode in its "Producer in a Box" video series, further explains the capabilities of these Commando and Officer units. Move your army to the hex cell after the post break to watch the two previous "Producer in a Box" movies. You can also study the fifteen new screenshots we've added to our Panzer Tactics image gallery.

Secret Files: Tunguska coming to the DS

German developer 10tacle Studios has announced plans to develop DS and Wii ports for Secret Files: Tunguska, an adventure title that originally appeared on the PC last year. Players take on the role of Nina Kalenkow, a Russian motorcycle mechanic investigating the disappearance of her scientist father. Nina's search leads her to Tunguska, Siberia, the site of a mysterious 1908 explosion that leveled an estimated 80 million trees over 830 square miles.

Though several screenshots mocking up the DS version have been sent out, we can't say for sure whether or not they're just scenes from the PC game that've been pasted onto the handheld. We'll be impressed if the game manages to look even half as good when it comes out later this year in Europe. Jump past the post break for the full Secret Files: Tunguska press release.

Boulder Dash rolls steadily on

Geology is a slow process. Making rocks takes time after all, much like game development. Meanwhile, classic action puzzler Boulder Dash - Rocks continues its glacial roll toward the DS and PSP.

We first heard about this remake of the classic action-puzzler back in November. Since then a few new details have emerged. Rockford, our bling hungry hero, will be able to use lasers and bombs to help him on his underground quest for diamonds. We're also promised multiplayer modes, and platform specific game modes. No details on what these entail, but some kind of stylus based action seems inevitable on the DS - perhaps the ability to lift or smash rocks?

That would certainly go some way to making the game a bit more accessible than the original, where a simple mistake could leave your precious diamonds buried forever under piles of rocks. We'll hopefully find out in late 2007, when Boulder Dash - Rocks is due for release.

Boulder Dash rolling onto the DS

Old school, boulder-dodging hero Rockford is set to make a comeback courtesy of 10tacle Studios. German developer 10tacle Studios worked out a co-publishing deal with the First Star, who still own the rights to the franchise, to make an updated Boulder Dash for both the DS and the PSP. 10tacle is handling the development side, and they seem enthused about working with the property. Since there is a lot of potential for stylus-based fun here, we are enthused about seeing what they produce.
