Gachapin, the fuzzy green character from the NHK show Hirake! Ponkiki, adorns some of our favoriteDSaccessories, along with his nervous friend Mukku. He's also been the star of his own DS game from Hudson, Gachapin Nikki(Gachapin Diary), a jigsaw puzzle collection.
The latest game to bear the character's amusing likeness is Gachapin Challenge DS, which is a 20-sport collection. We're pretty sure running or otherwise exerting himself in a sporting exercise would kill the guy in the Gachapin suit, but it's safe on DS. Some of the events include hovercraft racing, karate, scuba, and mogul skiing.
Gachapin Challenge also has a "Gachabomberman" bonus mode comprising a traditional Bomberman game for up to four players, but with sleepy-faced Gachapin in the place of Bomberman.
What a week for DS releases! Of course, in the shadow of a certain release on the Wii side of the Nintendo fence, a big week was probably necessary, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. Though there are only three DS titles scheduled for release, each one has something going for it. How often does that happen?
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
Insecticide
Nanostray 2
In fact, there's a lot to look forward to all around the world. Europe's scoring Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Bomberman Land Touch! 2, among other titles, and Japan boasts our beloved Contra 4 (there, Dual Spirits), and the hilarious Duel Love. Surely you can find some time to tear yourself away from beatdowns for one of these.
This week's release of Bomberman Land Touch! 2 means that many of you will likely be down with tossing a few explosives around. For the majority of the DSF staff, however, this weekend will be littered with small skirmishes as we attempt to win as many battles as we can in Advance Wars: Days of Ruin. Some of us still have as of yet to complete the single-player campaign, while the rest of us continue our struggle to be the king of the Wi-Fi Connect mountain.
What about you all, though? What will you be playing?
Everybody loves Bomberman. It's a fact. Don't be fooled by the liars who will inevitably come into the comments and register their snarky distaste. Those liars are, in fact, liars.
There have been about a millionBomberman releases, all differing in various ways: some are 2D, some are 3D, some have single-player story modes, or minigames, or extra multiplayer modes, or dinosaur helpers. Some are racing games.
What do you look for in a Bomberman game? What is your ideal feature set? What makes you see a new Bomberman release and decide "I should buy this one, instead of those other ones!"

The official North American Bomberman Land site is now available for perusal, and features more than a few screenshots and exhortations to buy the game. There's actual stuff! To do! The site offers Flash demo versions of three of the DS Bomberman Land Touch! 2 minigames. We can only assume that they are confident that you know how to play the regular Bomberman part by now.
Grid Riddle is a series of extremely simplistic jigsaw puzzles with maddeningly shrinking time limits. Bomb Factory is a game in which you rotate arrows to direct bombs into conveyors of the same color. Shoot 'em Up is a basic can-shooting game in which you shoot at bombs (by tapping them) to keep them up in the air. All of the games are pretty simple, but diverting; Bomb Factory in particular can get hectic, after fooling you with a slow start.
Hudson hit us up with this new trailer for Bomberman Land Touch! 2 and upon checking it out, we're excited. Hell, of course we're excited, it's frickin' Bomberman here. It's got lots of minigames (including one where Bomberman dances, for some reason) and some multiplayer stuff, but, more importantly, it's got the original Bomberman experience included.
Bomberman Land Touch! 2 is slated for a January 2008 release.
Hudson has fired off some new screens for the upcoming Bomberman Land Touch! 2 and we're chompin' at the bit to get our horribly misshapen mitts on it. We've gone ahead and done the responsible thing, plucking the screens from the press release and situating them neatly into the gallery you see below.
And, for those who haven't kept up with bombing technology (they've made particularly impressive advancements in the realm of fuses), the game is going to have some sweet Wi-Fi Connect compatibility, all but cementing its place as a future theme game for Game Night.
It's been too long since we were able to put our goggles on and prepare for a full facial assault from new screens for Bomberman Land Story. Because, that's what we're getting right now, as we all get to check out some new shots depicting the title screen, world navigation (we assume) and a few menu screens.
Also, it looks the official site for the game has received an update, complete with loads of new content.
Hudson announced a sequel to Bomberman Land Touch! along with new Bomberman Land games for the PSP and Wii. Whoa, catch your breath. A Bomberman sequel? We know it seems impossible, but it's true. Hudson finally figured out that they can make money by selling Bomberman games. This time, the publishing will be handled by Hudson's parent company, Konami, rather than Atlus.
The new game features an RPG-style Story Mode, otherwise known as "stuff that gets ignored in favor of regular multiplayer Bomberman," and over 40 new minigames, known as "oh, it has minigames? I didn't notice because I just play Bomberman."
What can't be ignored is the 4-player online Battle Mode, which the first Bomberman Land Touch had as well. It's another opportunity for us to lose over and over again to the Game Night community! Check out the link for the first screens, and blow up the post break for a look at the press release.
QJ has the skinny on fresh screens for the upcoming Bomberman Story DS. And, from the looks of these screens, the game is going to be a treat for those looking for a bit of a mixed bag; new gameplay elements that look to have some RPG influences, as well as the old grid-style play. Considering this is the first we've heard of the game, color us excited.
If you're looking for more info on the game, try the Japanese website here and Wikipedia's page for the game here.
When we last fixed our gaze on Cheap Ass Gamer's list of DS discounts at Amazon, we were presented with eight marked-down titles -- two of which were worth your money, the rest being of middling quality. Since then, the thrifty tally has expanded three-fold, its ratio of rad-to-bad offerings also steadily increasing. Here are a few highlights from the 29 27-strong bargain lineup:

As you probably already know by now, Amazon waives its shipping fees on orders totaling over $25. We can't predict how long some of these deals will last before going out of stock or returning to their original price, so now is not the time to be indecisive! Break your piggy banks open and run past the post break for the full list of games on sale.
It seems like we only just found out about Theme Park DS and here it is, shipping to stores everywhere this week. We're willing to bet that a few of you will be bending the stylus in the pursuit of your dream park by the weekend. But hey, if parks aren't your thing, there's a ton of games out this week. Helps to make up for some of the recent lackluster weeks, eh?
It's here at last -- Elite Beat Agents! We're told some other games might be coming out as well (who knew?), but we're too busy tap-tapping at the keyboard and practicing rhythm to think about much else. Which is probably too bad, because it's a good week for game releases. If this deluge of awesome sauce continues, we're not going to have any money left to throw a New Years' Eve party this year ... but we'll have a sweet collection of DS games, right? It's all about priorities ....
Of course, supplies are subject to manufacturer delivery.

Set to release this November thanks to Atlus, Bomberman Land Touch contains three modes of gameplay and will support Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service. The three modes of gameplay, which are Story, Attraction, and Battle, hope to keep gamers-on-the-go busy for quite some time. No doubt the Wi-Fi gameplay will offer plenty, in that regard.
These 20 screenshots are the first from the English localization of the game.
The popular series where your only worry is to blow up your opponent as stylishly as possible is back for another round on the DS.
Bomberman Land: Touch! will feature a Story Mode (explore Bomber Island and unlock mini games), Battle Mode (beat the snot out of your friends) and Attraction Mode (enjoy the mini games you unlocked in Story Mode).
Other good news is that up to four players can battle it out via Wi-Fi connection or two to eight players can compete using either single or multi-card play.
