DS Daily: Corruptions, bugs, and glitches

Recently, this blogger had the displeasure of losing all her data in Geometry Wars: Galaxies. One minute we were best buddies, inseparable and joined at the hip; in just an instant, however, the save data became corrupt and everything was lost. All unlocked galaxies and drone level-ups were gone, along with high scores and gold medals. Instead of starting over, Geometry Wars has remained untouched ever since.

Have you ever lost your data in a DS game? And if you haven't faced corruptions, have you played any games that had bugs or glitches that made you want to stop playing? Even better, have you experienced any funny glitches in your games?

Or, has your time on the DS managed to be bug and problem free? If so, we envy you!

Circuit City glitch leads to low, low prices

Electronics retailer Circuit City has an ongoing deal in which you can get any two games priced at $19.99 for only $30, but, because of a recently discovered glitch during the ordering process, customers have reportedly received a $10 discount for each $19.99 game they've thrown into their shopping carts, bringing their total even further down to $20 for two items.

Though many of the online shop's $19.99 titles are currently out of stock, we've put together a short list of the DS titles available that you might want to pick up with this buggy bargain. We can't guarantee that your order will stick once Circuit City's management catches wind of this bug, nor can we say whether or not exploiting this slip-up makes you a horrible person, but here you go:

• Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day
• Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day
• Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Justice For All
• Sonic Rush
• Spectrobes

While there are also a few GBA (as well as PS2 and PSP) titles eligible for this "deal," keep in mind that this glitch works best with two games from the same console.

Taiko DS can't handle clothed drums

There are few things freakier than dressing a musical instrument in clothes, and Taiko no Tatsujin DS Touch de Dokodon instinctively knows this. That's why the game rejects this activity.

Either that or, you know, it's just a bug. Apparently the game has a problem in which you cannot continue playing after you attempt to change costumes in all three save slots. Bandai Namco is correcting the issue, and will have new copies of the game out soon. We would suggest holding off on importing until then, obviously.

Is the DS really hard to program for or something? It seems like we've had a disproportionately high number of game-breaking bugs. Well, this makes three that we can count, but that still seems high.

Bug-hunting game looks like edutainment done right

Insects are huge in Japan. We don't mean in the Mothra kaiju sense, but in that they're very popular. Kids like to collect and battle stag beetles (sound like another popular Japanese form of entertainment?) Therefore, a bug reference guide on the DS seems like a pretty good decision.

Quiz & Touch Kensaku Mushi Sukan (Quiz & Touch Insect Encyclopedia) is our kind of non-game: not only does it provide visual and sound information about many species of bugs, but it also has quizzes and minigames about the bugs, including games based on identifying particular insects by sound and color. Librarians and those training to be librarians will probably agree: more reference books should have games in them.

The DS gets buggy

Gamecock Media, the new publisher formed by former Gathering of Developers executives, have announced a new DS game from Crackpot Entertainment: a "third-person shooter/detective game" called Insecticide.

The game, also coming out for PC, stars Detectives Chrys Liszt and Roachy Caruthers as they attempt to solve a murder at the Nectarola soft drink company. In addition to shooting bad guys, players will have to investigate environments and clues using the stylus.

We are loving the concept art. It's got a great detective-thriller atmosphere combined with Psychonauts styling, which is very appropriate for what looks and sounds a whole lot like an adventure game. Obviously this art is a little too hi-res for DS, but we hope they can pull off a similar look.

SNK fixing Card Fighters DS

Luckily for people hoping to get their New Game+ on in SNK vs. Capcom Card Fighters DS, SNK is aware of the game-breaking bug. Unfortunately, they'll have to wait more than six weeks to get their hands on a repaired game.

SNK president Ben Herman released a statement on SNK Playmore's official message board stating that they have ordered new cartridges from Nintendo, which will take six weeks to receive. At that point, SNK will issue instructions for getting your game switched out for a corrected one. Be patient! Don't return the game to the store yet, because the replacement copy will have the same issue.

Anyone out there playing Card Fighters DS? We wonder how many people this issue affects. That's a nice way of saying we wonder how many people bought this game.
