All it really takes to have a good time with your DS is a game or two, but we tend to add in a few accessories for comfort's sake ... and maybe for a bit of personalization as well. What do you go in for? Case, special headphones, or perhaps a different stylus? We want to hear about your choices. What accessories do you consider absolutely necessary? Screen protectors -- that's our pick, and yet we're surprised by how many people venture out with a bare screen.

DS Daily: Choice accessories
All it really takes to have a good time with your DS is a game or two, but we tend to add in a few accessories for comfort's sake ... and maybe for a bit of personalization as well. Flightless game card collection pouch
Available with both red and gray accents, Penguin Unlimited's game card collection pouch holds up to 24 of your DS carts in its clear vinyl pages. We're usually too picky about the designs of our accessories to ever use antything so blatantly branded, but like global warming, the Penguin logo on the wallet's cover managed to melt our glacial hearts.Though the pouches are already a bargain, listed at $9.99, UncleBob from CAG clued us into a 12%-off coupon code for you to enter -- 'thankyoufrompenguin' -- that drops the price down to $8.80. March past the post break for more photos of the card case and our flippered friend.
Finally, a use for pants

We'd also like to point out the delicious irony involved in making a pocket out of pants so that your DS Lite doesn't get scratched up in your pants pocket. Furthermore, we'd like to point out that Doritos are often even more delicious than irony.
Sound reactive DS Lite mod

When we last checked in with Acid Mods forumer Rocky, he had outfitted his DS Lite with a clear shell and several LEDs, wowing all the ladies and fellas with its electric blue brilliance. His latest experiment adds a sound amp chip that floods the LEDs with light in time with the handheld's audio. Don't feel like driving out to the dance club tonight? Just find yourself a dark room, load up Darude's "Sandstorm" on your DS Lite, and you've got the same experience right in your hands! Sort of.
Rocky has posted a photo tutorial of the installation process, but we're much too squeamish to replace our stock casing or do any sort of soldering. If that seems like too much hardware hacking, you can settle with just watching a video of the jazzed up DS Lite flickering along with music tracks and video game sounds after the post break. Though we can't condone his use of a flash cart to load backed up games, we won't let that get in the way of imagining how cool it'd be to play our favorite rhythm titles with this mod.
Marugoto Teikoku Hotel provides accommodations for your DS

For 4,280 yen, Japanese consumers can buy the basic program, but for only 1,000 yen more (about $8.25) they can add this Koei-branded DS case. What's $8 to someone who eats at the Marugoto Teikoku Hotel? Probably a roll or something.
Snazzy velcro cases wrap your DS Lite in style
Japanese manufacturer Suono has got their finger on the pulse of trendy DS Lite cases, manufacturing some of the most visually appealing cloth cases we've ever seen. Sure, they're not as functional as the case we already use, but we can't deny the sheer pleasure we'd feel as we whipped our DS Lite out from within the stylish confines of one of Suono's smooth cotton cloth cases. The addition of a velcro strip only makes us want one even more. The price for the case is really the only thing we can imagine would deter one from ordering, as each one will cost you over $30 USD, not to mention the addition of shipping. But with the variety of styles available, price can't get in your way forever. So, with that in mind, any of you out there planning on ordering one of these up?

A couple of interesting GameStop price drops
Scurge: Hive tortured everyone who was waiting for it with frequent delays. If you have, in turn, delayed your purchase of the isometric Metroid-esque game, you have been rewarded with a shot at a really cheap copy. GameStop has new copies for $10, which is pretty much worth it for the boxart alone.Speaking of superficial matters, GameStop is also selling a cheap DS Lite case from Intec with smart-looking game storage compartments for $4.99. Sure, it's no $3 leather case, but it looks pretty nice and keeps scratches away. Plus, with no color, you don't have to worry about what color case you'll end up with.
Cut-rate cases at Circuit City

Looking for a decent case to clothe your DS Lite with, but not willing to spend more than a few bucks? Even if you lack the craft skills to create one from scratch, there's still hope for you frugal folks.
Circuit City has thrown Intec's DS Lite Ultimate Leather cases into the bargain bin, selling the magnetic clasping cover for $2.99. You could probably buy one with just the change you'd find on the electronics retailer's parking lot or in its pay phone coin returns. Try not to be too obvious about it though. You'll look like a homeless vagrant foraging for pennies, and the store manager might call the cops to escort you off the property.
Intec's cases come in white, pink, black, blue, blue, and camo, some of these colors having "Crocco" variations or only being available with the crocodile texture. The sale is available both in-store and online, but much like Nerf's DS Lite Armor, the styles are shipped randomly. Even the vagabonds will point and laugh if you come around with the pink, crocodile-leather case that you'll inevitably get after ordering from Circuit City's site.

DS Daily: On mods
We've seen some pretty awesome and artistic DS mods, from classic to ... uh ... extra classic, but the thing of it is, we're not sure we could actually bring ourselves to hold such a beautiful item in our sweaty, grubby, jam-hands, much less put it in our pockets. Imagine if we whipped out a sweet piece like this, only to notice that bits have fallen off along the way. Tragic! So, we want to know how you feel about mods. Would you buy a modded DS -- and if you had one, whether you made it or purchased it, would you actually play it? It probably depends on the outcome. Some are sturdier than others. And of course, we're not talking about technical mods here, or simple case switches, but those elaborate jobs that turn a beautiful DS into something even more interesting.
Faced with Nerf or nothing, we choose Nerf

There's nothing elegant or alluring about Nerf's DS Lite Armor cases, but they look protective enough to guard against even the most rugged lifestyles. The $12.99 ensemble holds the handheld close with a plastic shell and swaddles it with Nerf's unique foam padding. Nothing short of a tactical nuclear weapon (or a puppy that loves to chew on your valuables) will penetrate its cushioned coat.
Though GameStop advertises that the cases won't be available until next month, Fanboy reader PW was able to acquire one early by setting his DS clock ahead. According to his impressions, the extra padding allows people with "giant gorilla hands" to finally play games on a DS Lite without having to suffer hand cramps. We've got more photos of his Nerf DS Lite Armor after the post break, so don't miss out on those.
You should note that while PW's case is orange, that particular color isn't listed as an option on its packaging or on several online sites. Maybe this is an in-store-exclusive edition? You might want to head to a brick and mortar shop if you want to purchase one anyway, as GameStop's online product page states the following gem: "The DS Lite Nerf Armor comes in 4 colors: Pink, Blue, Black and Green. Colors are chosen at random when shipped."
Who's the genius that came up with that plan?!
DS Daily: How are you protecting your handheld?

With a gun?
No, but seriously, what kind of case set up do you have there? You can see this blogger's case above (got it at E3), and even one of our staff has their DS Lite insured (ask your agent). What about you guys? How is your beauty protected? Take a picture, describe it to us!
NIS America to sell DS Lite kimono cover
NIS America just opened their own online shop, and it's already decently stocked with neat stuff. This kimono-style DS Lite cover isn't exactly one of them right now-- it's available for preorder only-- but as soon as it's available we're considering getting one.The cover comes in eight colors, all of which add an air of serene beauty to your DS as well as a barrier against unwanted contact. Touching is good, unless it's your keys "touching" your DS in your pocket.

More swanky leather for your DS Lite

These have got to be some of the best looking cases we've ever seen. With a leather fit over your DS Lite, you can give it the sophisticated wrap it deserves. A nice button allows the cover to be snapped shut, with an open slot on the top allowing you to plug in the AC adapter and charge your DS Lite as it is secure in its leather cage.
There are many more colors available, as well as close up shots of the various areas of the case, embedded past the post break.
GDC07: Classic Suda 51 weirdness hitting the DS

Suda 51's first games as part of Grasshopper Manufacture are being remade for the DS. The games, called The Silver Case and The Silver Case Ward 25, were originally released for the Playstation and mobile phones, respectively. Suda revealed this fact during his GDC keynote "Punk's Not Dead".
Both are graphical text adventures; Ward 25 uses static art and the original Silver Case uses full-motion video. Unfortunately, because of the amount of text that would have to be translated, Suda isn't sure the remakes will be released outside Japan. Someone tell him that American DS players love graphical text adventures! And tell him that we <3 Grasshopper Manufacture too.
DS Daily: Truly unique cases

Some people just love the retro woodgrain look -- these iPod cases are proof enough of that. How do you think this would look on a DS? It may not be for everyone, but the best thing about replacement cases is that you can tailor your favorite electronics to suit your own look. So let's get creative this morning. What look would really be you? Something we've seen, perhaps, like these or the clear cases? Would replacement case would really define you as a gamer? We're not sure there really is one look that could completely satisfy us all the time, but maybe we could go with a sleek glass and chrome (remember, we're dreaming here) for the weekends, and a practical matte black (for fewer fingerprints!) for those knockabout weekdays.
In reality, we would absolutely not want a glass DS, because we would drop it and weep as it shattered.
