Hori Charge Stand delayed, coming to America?

We hope you haven't already put in a preorder for Hori's upcoming DS Lite Charge Stand! When we last previewed this accessory, Play Asia had put up a product page promising to deliver the stylish dock to your doorstep for $16.90 (plus $5.90 s/h) once it debuted in Japan this month.

Checking the online import shop earlier today, we spotted a pair of notable details, bad news and good news, if you will:.
  • Bad news: The charging base's shipping date has been moved to May
  • Good news: There is now a listing for the White DS Lite Charge Stand bearing a US flag, scheduled for June and priced at $14.99.
Is Hori's North American arm planning to bring the dock to the states as it has with many of the company's other DS accessories? If so, it might worth waiting an extra month to pick up the Charge Stand at a local store for a few bucks less. Hit the gallery below for glamour shots of the White and Black models.

DS Daily: Charged with reckless battery use

Perhaps it's just our affinity for electric gadgets in general, but as we set up our DS for its routine charge, we wondered if many of you out there also had your handheld on a prescribed regiment of "the good juice." You know, the kind of juice you can jack on with.

So do you have a special place set aside for charging? Do you not play that often and only charge when necessary? Charge in the car? How do you keep the games going on your DS?

DS Daily: Destruction

Horror of horrors -- last night, while vacuuming, someone in the house (read: not your current writer!) stripped the cable of the DS Lite charger. After the tears and accusations, it occurred to us that hinge cracks and falls aren't the only accidents that can befall our beloved handhelds. Anything similar happen to yours? We know lost games can be a problem, and we've heard about lost styli. Tell us about the worst things that have happened to your handhelds. What did you do? We'll be calling Nintendo today and hoping some kind soul will send a new charger over.

If you need a DS Lite adapter, today's the day to get one

Since the official DS Lite AC Adapter is a much better way to go about charging your DS than the crank we showed you earlier today, we thought we'd let you know that this accessory happens to be Amazon's video game related "Deal of the Day."

We assume that this is a useless deal for most of you, since DS Lites come with one, but we're sure some of you have either misplaced yours or want an extra for traveling. Still, be careful; while the adapter is marked off by $5 (meaning that it only costs $10), you'll have to pay for shipping unless you're a Prime member or find $15 worth of other merchandise to add to your cart. Without the free shipping, this really isn't much of a deal at all.

DS Crank is the worst accessory ever

Accessories often range from useful to "why, oh why," and we think this crank is the most pointless of them all. We're so dumbfounded that we had no other choice but to show you, dear reader, and have you scratch your head along with us.

Maybe if you got somebody to crank this for you while you played to keep the battery alive, and you also didn't mind the screeching noise that came with it, it'd be useful ... right?

No, we didn't think so either.

Mad Catz supports Breast Cancer Foundation through accessory pack

Did you know that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Mad Catz does, as they've decided to turn over 10% of their profits on their Joytech Nintendo DS Lite Pink Tech Pack. The accessory pack, which can be found at Circuit City, hasn't turned up for us in an online search, but we do know it includes a carrying case, in-car power adapter, USB charger, 2 stylii and two game cases. And it only costs $19.99.

Sounds like a win-win situation to us.

Chinese AC adapter charges your Ninetudo DS

Knockoff electronics are always good for an easy laugh, and this AC adapter is no exception to that rule. Cory Doctorow (of Boing Boing fame) recently spotted the above "Ninetudo DS" charger at a Buy Now shop in Beijing, China. The product's packaging brings up a few questions:
  1. What happened to the upper half of the DS logo's S?
  2. Why is there a photo of a butterfly on the handheld's top screen? And why isn't there anything pictured on the bottom touchscreen?
  3. With this product being manufactured and sold in China, shouldn't there be some sort of iQue branding?
  4. Was "Ninetudo" seriously the best they could come up with?

A DS Lite dock and a photo of a depressed dog

Japanese manufacturer Sakurado combined into one device two useful features: a cradle to charge your DS Lite with and a photograph of a disconsolate golden retriever. If his doleful eyes and floppy ears become too much for your frail heart to take in, you could always drop another snapshot into the picture frame instead, but you'd first have to endure the pitiful whines of a puppy who's been punished unjustly.

The fused dock and photo stand is available at select Japanese retailers for about 1,420 yen (approximately $11.50), offered in white, navy blue, light blue, pink, and black variations. Interestingly, the charging stand uses the DS Lite's adapter for power, rather than its own proprietary plug. Check past the post break, empty leash in hand, for a comparison image of the cradle's various colors.

Pretty much the best DS Lite mod ever

When aliens come to lay waste on our planet after an interstellar decree to rid the galaxy of our race before our warlike nature spreads to other solar systems, this Nintendo DS Lite case mod could be humanity's saving grace. At the precipice of mankind's extinction, the extraterrestrial army will stay its advanced armaments, realizing that any society capable of producing such an awe-aspiring object deserves to continue its existence!

Forged by the same hands that brought the Legend of Zelda-themed Wii mod to life, this gold and black beauty's metal die-cast Master Sword/Shield crest rotates to match your handheld's orientation and illuminates when being charged. Buying this one-of-a-kind DS Lite will also net you a custom charging dock, two painted styli (silver and dark blue), and the admiration of your peers and cosmic beings alike. Proceeds from the auction will once again be donated to Penny Arcade's Child's Play charity.

Head past the post break for more photos of the DS Lite mod. It's a good preview of what we'll spend the rest of our enslaved lives assembling after our alien overlords decide to spare our pitiful race.

Just about the coolest DS charger we've ever seen

We've got to say, this charger beats our previous favorite. Sure, that one has USB support, which really drives the value up for us, but this one matches our Wii and cradles our DS Lite in such a loving manner it looks as if the DS Lite is a trophy. Some kind of reward for our hard work beyond our calloused hands and high stress level. The only thing we'd change is the huge Intec logo right on the face of it.

The Gametech DS Lite charger for on-the-go

As far as DS Lite chargers go, this has got to be the Rolls Royce edition. Featuring an in-car charger for those road trips where battery power becomes an issue, the charger also has an extendable cord allowing you (the passenger) to charge the handheld while playing. Also, the charger has a breakaway USB adapter allowing you to power the handheld from a laptop, PC or one of those iPod charger things.

Anyone plan on picking one of these up? We sure are ...
