Ace Attorney producer testifies

GayGamer's Tiny Dancer conducted a brief interview with Ace Attorney series producer Minae Matsukawa, presumably while she was on a break from staring at dozens of identical blue suits. Matsukawa answered a few questions about everyone's favorite GBA/DS courtroom adventure series, including a question about the release of the DS-exclusive fourth game, which, she said, will be announced sometime after the US release of Phoenix Wright Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations.

And, of course, Matsukawa deployed the requisite implied threat of ending the series if you don't buy the next game and promote it as hard as you can: "Yes, we would like to [release Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney] very much, and we're working to make sure that happens. But it's kind of pointless if number three doesn't do very well, so we want to make sure people know about that, buy it, and tell their friends!"

Welcome to Cosplayer Crossing

GayGamer's Fruit Brute happened upon these three Animal Crossing cosplayers at Comic-Con, dressed as three of the franchise's most enduring and beloved characters: "Girl," Girl," and "Girl." He then persuaded them to allow him to take their picture, presumably by taking all of their borrowed glasses cases back to Hopper's house.

It's the details, of course, that make these costumes work-- much like the actual game, all of the fun is in the items. The be-K.K. Slider-'d Girl is carrying one of Animal Crossing's ubiquitous Presents, and they actually presented Fruit Brute with an authentic Animal Crossing-style letter.

Castlevania figures- now in color!

NECA is showing off the final (?) painted versions of their Castlevania figures at Comic-Con, and, judging by these pictures, they will soon be stealing fans' souls and making them their slaves. Simon Belmont's face looks a little too tenderized, but we suppose he's a tough guy and has taken countless beatings from undead whatevers.

Alucard and Dracula look just awesome. Think you we would buy such a thing? Yes! And they all seem to come with little monster accessories! As cool as the succubus figure is, however, we just ... don't have a place to display it.

Oh, and for those of us waiting for the update: the exclusive pixel-Simon is as terrible in production as it was in the early picture.

Go to Comic-Con, get your Ace Attorney signed, play some games

If you're planning on attending Comic-Con, you might want to pack your copy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Why? Well, the game's producer Minae Matsukawa, will be on-hand to sign autographs. If you're as obsessed with the lawyer-em-up titles as we are, then such a prospect is reason enough to attend.

Outside of that, Capcom will be bringing lots of their products to the show, apparently. Game stations with DS titles Mega Man Star Force, Mega Man ZX Advent, and Ace Attorney will also be on-hand to enjoy. And, you can even have your photo taken with Mega Man and Harvey Birdman!

While we'd like to attend, unfortunately the airlines won't let us fly with our shackles on (driving is an option, but iron shackles really kill our gas mileage). And, while we'd like to take them off, our Joystiq overlords would never allow it, for we would be free to run away as fast as we can.

Turnabout Cosplay at Comic-Con

If you must dress up in costumes imitating those of video game characters, we would recommend mimicking a Phoenix Wright character. It is, of course, the natural progression from wearing a Phoenix Wright t-shirt. And if you're going to dress up in such a costume, why not do it for the benefit of the games' producer, Minae Matsukawa? Oh, right, because that would be really embarrassing.

But that's us. Maybe you're bolder and more assertive than we are-- in fact, it's basically a given that you are. Since we're too meek to do it, you should go to the San Diego Comic-Con and compete in Capcom's official Ace Attorney Cosplay Contest, judged by Matsukawa. You should also-- and this is the most important part-- take lots of pictures for us.

What a horrible summer not to be going to Comic-Con

NECA, the company responsible for the awesome Castlevania figure prototypes, has a new Simon Belmont figure on the way. It's a somewhat more faithful sculpture of Simon as he appeared in the first Castlevania on the NES. Unfortunately, only 1,000 units will be produced, and it will only be available at the San Diego Comic-Con.

We totally want this, and we are all about pixel art, but we must say that this figure, with its rounded edges and inexact paint job, looks a little more like a cookie to us than an action figure. Which actually gives us an idea!

Star Fox Command Comic-Con video

ShadowDoubleX, an attendee of Comic-con, was kind enough to post this video of StarFox Command. His excitement was clearly too great because the video is a little jittery but still appreciated. We see a few battle shots and a little animation here and its lookin' good. Basically, you shoot stuff, it blows up. Perfect!

[Thanks, ShadowDoubleX!]

Crystal Chronicles from Comic-Con show floor

Taken from the show floor of Comic-Con last week, this video of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles for the DS is an extended version of a previously released trailer. During the video, all the usual things are addressed such as exploring and fighting.

Nintendo and DS in full force at Comic-Con

Nintendo is not without love for the comic geek, it would seem, as they plan to be out in full force at San Diego's Comic-Con 06 later on this month. While you would think they'd be on-hand with the Wii, attempting to get it as much exposure as possible before its launch later on this year, instead the company is looking to strengthen its already huge grip on gaming with the DS.

That's right, no Wii and nothing but DS will be available to cosplaying comic fans in the southern California area during the ultimate show for comics. Those cosplaying as Nintendo characters will also get a chance to win prizes such as DS Lites, software, and other junk.

Some of the titles available at Nintendo's booth are Mario Hoops: 3 on 3, Elite Beat Agents, Starfox Command, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. If you're a DS Fanboy reader attending the show and would like to send us some pictures, we guarantee you'll be *handsomely rewarded.

New Justice For All interview, and the single greatest accessory of all time

Objection...I need that freaking stylus.
Phoenix Wright: Justice For All
is probably the most anticipated game for the collective DS Fanboy staff. As such, when an interview arises filled with such ambiguity and non-commital statements that would make the current presidency green with envy, we still post with glee, hanging on every word. Though the 1up.com interview fails to reveal much about gameplay, some interesting views on the game's creation process and audience differences are revealed. Certainly worth a read...

...but the real treat here, folks, is found on the second page of the interview. Those lucky enough to be attending the annual San Diego Comic-Con will not only be able to try out the English build of the game, but also have the ability to obtain a specialized DS stylus shaped like Phoenix Wright's finger. Move over, Power Glove. Stand aside, Rez Vibrator. This is the single greatest accessory in video gaming history. San..San Diegans? San Diegoans? San DiegAAAns. If you attend this event, do yourself a favor. Pick up a part of gaming history...and grab us a few, too.

We debate the hot topics!
