Final Fantasy IV site expands

Jeux-France has also reconfirmed that the game will be playable at this month's Tokyo Game Show.
Taito goes DS-only at TGS
Taito knows where the money is in the Japanese video game market: the DS. Thus it seems that they've decided to concentrate their development efforts on games for the money-printing handheld. The company released the list of games they'll be displaying at this year's Tokyo Game Show, and every single one is a DS title. Most of the games are things that we already know (and have said "yay") about, but two games are new: the first is Space Invaders Extreme, which, we hope, is either more of an update than Space Invaders Revolution or includes Akkanvader. We also hope it works with the Arkanoid paddle controller. The other is Pet Shop Monogatari DS, which is an RPG about a pet shop.
The lineup includes: Cooking Mama 2, Exit DS, Arkanoid DS (and its controller), The Legend of Kage 2, Pet Shop Monogatari DS, and Space Invaders Extreme. All games that we would totally play at TGS ... if we were going. Which we aren't.
Dragon Quest IV and others playable at TGS
It's nice to see that even though Nintendo won't have a booth at the Tokyo Game Show this year, our favorite handheld will still be properly represented at the convention by companies like Square Enix (Sanuk Software, too!).Square Enix has announced its sequels, remakes, spin-offs, and casual titles the company plans to present at the event, most notable on the list -- at least for us -- being a playable Dragon Quest IV. Dragon Quest IX, recently pushed back for a 2008 release, will only show up in video form. Check past the post break for Square Enix's full list of DS RPGs and Style Games for TGS.
Nintendo at Tokyo Game Show 2007?
The talk around town is that Nintendo might have a significant presence this year at the traditionally Sony-dominated Tokyo Game Show, going so far as to secure a booth. The video game trade show hasn't made much of an effort to include Nintendo in the past, as the company stuck to the Space World expo and its own events to make announcements. But with the Wii's current momentum and Dragon Quest IX: Defenders of the Sky set to appear on the Nintendo DS, leaving Nintendo out of TGS just doesn't make sense.Wired's Chris Kohler has an interesting post on how Nintendo's attendance at the September event will affect the console market in Japan and what the company might present at the convention. Playable DQIX demos of seem given, but we're sure that Nintendo has a lot more planned for the biggest dedicated video game show in Japan. What games and announcements are you looking forward to hearing about?
FFIII creators talk other remakes on DS
During the pandemonium that was the Tokyo Game Show, Games Radar managed to get an interview with two head honchos on the Final Fantasy III project. In speaking with Hiromichi Tanaka, Senior Vice President of Software Development and Tomoya Asano, Producer, it's revealed that due to the already insane success from the game's launch in Japan, Square-Enix is looking to adopt a strategy of just outright remaking classic Final Fantasy titles, as opposed to just porting them as they did with Final Fantasy IV, V, and VI.So with ports to the GBA, remakes hitting the DS, as well as brand-new spin-off games, Square-Enix is staking a mighty large claim on the DS. We couldn't be happier, to tell the truth.
TGS 2006 wrap-up: the DS, videos, and you [update 1]

Now that the Tokyo Game Show has come to a close and you've been assaulted with numerous videos, we can all finally take a deep breath and carefully scrutinize all of this new data following the event. For Nintendo having no presence of their own at the show, the Wii was out in full-force. Before we get into what we liked and didn't like from the show, let's recap on what the show brought us, for both the DS and Wii:
- Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker in-game footage
- A new Bleach trailer
- A pretty sweet Elebits booth
- Kingdom Hearts creators unveil new DS game
- FFXII: Revenant Wings trailer and art
- Heroes of Mana animated trailer
- New Sonic and the Secret Rings trailer
- Best in Show: Elebits
- The TGS booth to rule them all
- New footage for Q? Entertainment's Gunpey
- It's a Wonderful World gets the preview treatment
- Lost in Blue 2 trailer
- More Final Fantasy remakes on the DS?
We can't forget about the DS, either! Even though the DS was literally bombarded with nothing but RPGs, it still had a great show. A slew of new content will keep the already incredible platform from going stale. Those with an insatiable appetite for turn-based battles and potions will get their fix with Square-Enix's incredible lineup of RPG games to come.

TGS 2006: Heroes of Mana trailer excites

In the latest trailer for Heroes of Mana, a lot of cool animation and music whet our appetite, even if it is lacking in actual gameplay. We love RPGs on the go, and while we wait like crazed madmen for a certain last fantasy, we can still muster excitement over the latest Mana title to hit our shores. One question, however, we must ask: why do the characters all look like they're Padaung with the rings off?
As always, the video is embedded into the post, after the break.

TGS 2006: It's a Wonderful World preview
During the Tokyo Game Show, 1up managed to get their hands on the demo build of It's a Wonderful World, the game coming from those Kingdom Hearts guys. Their impressions of the whole affair (or, at least, the whole affair available) is somewhat positive, although they comment that the language barrier is huge.Considering that the game is incredibly complex (we imagine in a good way), being able to speak and/or read Japanese goes a long way when attempting to play the TGS build of It's a Wonderful Life. We wonder why 1up would not have a person in their starting lineup at the show to fill this much-needed role. Thinking about it, there probably should be one of us there to play the build as well, since we are so
TGS 2006: off-screen Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker footage

If there's one thing we'll say about Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker after having watched the embedded video is that this game is pretty. The graphics look excellent and following our first taste of the game in action, you may assume we are plenty intrigued.
As always, you'll have to continue into the post to check out the video.

TGS 2006: A trio of Gunpey videos await
A little puzzle game called Gunpey, which is from those great people at Q? Entertainment that brought us Meteos (and those Sony cats that Lumines game), is on-hand during the Tokyo Game Show. Gamespot managed to upload three different videos of the musically-inclined puzzler, so we suggest you head on over and give them a gander.
It's a Wonderful World revealed
We had yet to report on this new game coming from the team at Square-Enix responsible for Kingdom Hearts as there was nothing visual to go on. Well, thanks to the Tokyo Game Show, we now have something to actually show you. It's a Wonderful World takes place in Japan's Shibuya district, featuring such famous locales as the 109 shopping mall and Scramble Crossing. The game stars Neku, a boy with the unique gift of reading the hearts of others (not to be confused with Ma-Ti). Upon meeting a young girl by the name of Tsuki, the two stumble upon Japan's Shibuya district and are forced to play a mysterious game.
The Japanese website for the game can be found here.
TGS 2006: FFXII Revenant Wings trailer and art

The recently revealed Final Fantasy XII spin-off title Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings has made its presence at the Tokyo Game Show known through glorious video. The trailer is comprised totally of FMV, as is Square's usual standard of practice, yet still manages to get us excited. We loves the RPGS, bring 'em on!
Continue past the break to check out the trailer.

The one TGS booth to rule them all: Phoenix Wright courtroom
It's things like these that make us wish we were in the land of the rising sun. Our love of Phoenix and his "mad lawyerin' skillz" have kept us warm through many a night as we clutched our copy of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney against our chest and fell into a sound sleep. We've also constructed a wonderful shrine in our garage. Capcom issued a restraining order, but luckily that doesn't apply to posting entries in online blogs! The pictures over at Famitsu show one heck of a courtroom mock-up. In fact, barring any items out of stock at our local Home Depot, we're fairly certain that we've found our next home project. It'll be kind of hard to do, what with us needing to keep these mandatory Joystiq employment ankle bracelets on at all times, but we'll manage.
Also, be sure to check after the break for a trailer for Justice For All from TGS.

Square Enix loves the DS
At this month's Tokyo Game Show, Square Enix is gonna be all about the DS. Half the playable titles they plan to show are for the Nintendo handheld. Now that's what we call a coup.Look for lots of news and video later this month from Chocobo no Mahou Ehon (Chocobo and the Magic Picture Book), Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker, and Final Fantasy III.
We know you're especially excited about that last, since we never bring you Final Fantasy III news. Ever.
