Of course, I can't just tinker with this wonderful device and keep all my findings and thoughts to myself. That would be rude. Instead, I'll spend this weekend putting the system through its paces, informing you of its inherent dangers and in doing so, undoubtedly take so many comparison shots that you will become violently ill upon seeing them.
If you have questions about any aspect of the DS Lite, post a comment and let me know which parts of the system I should be putting under a magnifying glass or sticking a screwdriver into. I'll try and answer to the best of my limited and frequently embarrassing ability.
No, you can't have it.

I know how bright the screens are supposed to be, but can you see to play well outside. I was trying to play MKDS yesterday in the sun with an old DS and it's almost impossible with all the glare... I was just wondering if you could walk into the sun and see if the glare's still bad or if the brighter screens have taken care of it...

I like the idea of picture spam... DS lite (on all four brighness levels) vs Fat DS vs GBA SP vs GBA SP (frontlit) vs GBA SP (backlit) vs GB Micro at various angles...
Maybe a button pressure test... stack some quarters on a button until it gets pressed. (dumb idea, but i'm interested)
Maybe a center-of-mass test. Just don't drop it :)
Hmm... a drop test. How many times can you drop your ds lite from 6 feet until something breaks? :D

I'd like to know how it physically feels in the hands. is it too small? I'm worried that the size (especially the spacing between the sides and the D pad or the buttons) will make prolonged gameplay uncomfortable.

What does it taste like?
Whats the difference between GBA SP (frontlit) vs GBA SP (backlit)?

does it come with the "thumb stylus" (plastic on the other DS' strap) to effectively play Metroid Prime: Hunters?

I'm curious about the stylus. I bought a retractable one for the DS Phat and it's way more comfortable for my man hands. Does the new one give you cramps (it doesn't seem long enough)?
Also the weight of the system. It hurts my girly wrists when playing in bed for too long.
And add me to the outdoor/sunlight test. The DS Phat is useless to me outside, and summer's coming--I need to know if I can bring the Lite to the park. Thanks!

I think the most important test is the Fire/water/earth/air/lightning proof test. You should really test all of these elements at once, and see what happens.

I agree with #6. Play for 1/2 hour or so in a reclined position, such as on a bed, on your back. See if your pinky and ring fingers start to go numb. That's what would happen to me with the DS Phat.

Fingerprints. I'm thinking I'd like a white one 'cause my fingerprints get all up on my PSP . Is your DS Lite filthy with fingerprints after you use it? IS IT!? Thanks.

How about the battery life? How long it lasts with and without sound. How long it lasts on wifi with sounds and without.

I too have an enamel blue ds lite and I'll answer some questions since I've had it for a few weeks now.
Battery Life: generally I've found that it's on par with a GBA:SP with backlight. I usually play on the 2nd brightness setting and its lasted me days of almost constant playing of Advance Wars and Metroid Hunters.
Fingerprints are a problem with the navy blue but they are easily wiped off with your cotton shirt. The inside matted surface won't get very fingerprinty unless you just ate a greasy taco.
Playing reclined: It's not bad, much better than DS Phat. It's definitely lighter than it's big boned brother so there is considerably less fatigue.
Stylus: It's thicker so your fingers won't fall off trying to hold it but it isn't much longer. Your hand still has a tendancy to cramp up at times but it's all about the way you hold it.
Buttons: I can't say specifically what it is but the DS lite buttons feel better than the phat.
Playing outside: There is still glare so be sure to hold it at a different angle. However even in very bright sunlight, the brightest setting will let you see everything. Some dark games might be tough, like metroid hunters but Mario Kart and most other games work fine.

Any Dead pixels? My Lite has a dead one right in the middle of the touch screen.

One thing I'd like to know that noone's mentioned before is the speakers. Are they pretty much the same as the Phat's or are they slightly louder+better/smaller+crappier?

17. Purely materialistic question: How much did you pay for it. Here in Taiwan, they sell them for the rude price of 7500 NT (230 USD).
