We never would've thought Nintendo was looking to the mobile phone industry with any kind of plans for branching out, but according to the linked patent, which was filed in November 2001 and issued in June 2006, they were (and could still be). The patent, which reads as "Electronic apparatus having game and telephone functions," doesn't really paint a picture. Luckily though, we yanked some screens from Engadget, so check them out after the post break.

What a hideous design. Not only would your hand cramp after 5 minutes of play, but it reminds me of my old Qualcomm phone circa 1998.

haha, the new gameboy! Actually, I wouldn't mind having a gameboy cellphone. Playing pokemon or metroid 2 on my cellphone... Only problem is that the battery might actually run out pretty fast.

This wreaks of fake to me. I think since Nintendo does not even want to use the ds as a pda should let us all know they want to keep the stuff for fun and keep business and life issues off the platforms. Thats my 2 cents. :)

Hey I remember this rumer. They were considering adding internet access to the GBC with a wire with your a cell phone. But I think it was only going to be done through Japan. We know that they didn't do it in America but they might of still done it in Japan.
