An all new DS. And no, we don't mean a new color. We here in America, we don't get new colors, because we apparently don't buy enough Brain Age.
As rumors go, the idea of yet another DS redesign is not terribly un-possible. We saw several versions of the GBA, after all. But seriously, how small can we really go? Sometimes we already confuse it with the checkbook -- and our pals with larger hands occasionally complain of a little cramping as it is. And are bigger screens or a streamlined design necessary? Do we need a different (better?) DS? You decide.

The only way to make the DS Lite more perfect would be to make it feel and look like an SNES controller (accomodating for screens and etc. of course)

the word is that the redesign will be targeted at the elderly, will have larger buttons and screens so they can see/play it better. sounds like a great move on nintendo's part, the DS equivalent of a large print book. Oh and btw I want to work on this site!

In like 3 or 4 years, when the DS isn't as much of a tiny powerhouse as it is now, I'd love to see another redesign. I would expect it to be something like the GB micro, smaller all over, maybe faceplates, that could be cool, but not necessary. It could be Nintendo's last little squeeze to get as much money out of the DS as they can before its successor swoops in, and becomes yet another hot handheld.

Speaking of successors to the DS, is it possible that Nintendo will ever make another single screen handheld?

It doesn't have to be smaller, just better. How about this?

Give Almadi props, those are sweet concepts. Nicely done.
I hope troy is right. If he is, I'm on it. I would love larger screens and buttons.

I don't see why they would redesign it already, what more could they do? They wouldn't change just one of the screens, if they did that then newer games that support it wouldn't work on Lites/Phats -- not going to happen. Save something like that for a successor, not a redesign of the current gen.
And since it's selling gabillions right now, there's really no need to do anything until sales fall off. All I'm expecting from E3 is new Wiimote colors :)

If you want a widescreen BRICK that plays movies and music, buy a PSP.
And I continue to laugh at fools who think that, after the success of the DS, Nintendo will release a single screen wide view 2D system under the Gameboy moniker.
They have a word for twunts like that: twunt.

I still use the old style DS and never plan on getting a lite. I personally like the old style alot more than the newer style and I see little to no need for another redesign. The key is though, millions of people will still rush to the store to get the "updated" version.

If it goes under a revision, I'd certainly hope for better WiFi in the unit. Give us at least WPA2 security instead of WEP only. Maybe ensure the wireless is at least 802.11g or n to avoid slowing down any other wireless devices.

All I want is a software in which you don't have to turn off the console every single time you change anything... Oh and a better D-pad maybe an analog instead.

I am with the last couple of comments, all the DS needs is a firmware update to upgrade the Wifi to WPA and not having to restart the machine all the time. It would be cool if it could incorporate a Wii type of Channel system.

I personally can't see what Nintendo can do to go further than the DS Lite. The handheld is already pretty refined as it is, any others would only be more deluxe models.
I can't wait for a new firmware update though, for a better menu and WPA2 support. Maybe it'll happen through the Wii?

I'm sure there's a reason this hasn't yet been done, but... the ONE thing I really wish any DS redesign would incorporate would be the ability to change the level of backlighting using a button.
The fact that this can only be done in software, and typically only before you start playing the game, has always driven me nuts. The whole point of a portable game system is that it goes places with you, and when you go different places, lighting conditions change!

If Nintendo are going to release a new DS version then I need to know because my DS lite is cracked, it still works, but I have my eye on the blue lites and want to know if its worth buying it if theres going to be an even better DS. It really bugs me because even with the new colors when I got my Pink DS I chose it because I thought the white one would get really dirty and I dont like the black very much, I could not wait until a new color of lite came out because it was Christmas and my old DS died.
