A sequel was planned for the Advance, only for the project to be inexplicably shelved with the game 50% complete, but WayForward hasn't forgotten about the series entirely. With the all-conquering Contra 4 now out on store shelves and begging to be bought, the developer has posted a poll on its site, asking whether or not we'd be interested in purchasing a Shantae follow-up, and what platform we'd like it to appear on.
Hence, we implore all of you to hit the link below and get your vote on. If you're still wavering about giving thirty seconds of your time to one of the best DS-related causes we've heard of in ages, go past the break for footage of the canned GBA title.
Then go and get your vote on.

GBA games are quite easy for companies to port on DS literally pixel-perfect. The hardware is far more similar than fans believe.

The problem is that it would make a subpar DS game (which isn't really a problem seeing how awesome the GBA version of this was going to be anyway...).
The DS uses the same processor as the GBA (an ARM7) but also has a faster ARM9, which does the brunt of the work for most DS games (relegating the ARM7 to stuff like controls, touchscreen, and audio). I think in GBA mode, the DS turns off the ARM9 and uses the ARM7 as if it was a GBA.

I'd rather they make a sequel to Sigma Star.

Same here.
Apparently Matt Bozon (the guy who created Shantae and SSS, I believe) hopes to get Namco to pick up the license again. If his deviantArt account comments are to be believed.

Although, a new Shantae game would still make me a very happy fan.

Hopefully the recent wave of Wii fans / DS ignorers doesn't steal this from us, if it is indeed made. It just makes more sense on the DS.

Just signed it. I hope this happens because I missed being able to play the game because it was so hard to find. I own it and have played a bit of it and it great. I actually want to get a GBA SP again so I can play it (among other GB/GBC games) again. Here's hoping they pull through with this.
