According to (the translated version of) a Ruliweb post about a note in the latest issue of
CoroCoro Comic, a DS version of the Nintendo 64
Paper Mario is on the way purple monkey dishwasher. No more information is available than that, but the Ruliweb post says that "More news is expected to appear later." Which is
obvious, but, really, if this is true, expect an announcement and official screens within the next couple of weeks.
Oh, and allow us to say it first, because you're already getting your commenting hat on:
why isn't this Super Mario RPG? We don't know, and we find the decision to port
Paper Mario strange, since it
's available on the Virtual Console for ten bucks.

I'd rather see Super Mario RPG. Not because I don't like Paper Mario. It's just that I've already beat it on the virtual console, and I'd love to play Super Mario RPG now.

That's a better shot of being ported, seeing as porting to DS is Squenix's bread-and-butter while they're taking forever on Dragon Quest IX and Final Fantasy XIII

I agree with Reuben, nice Simpsons reference.
Why not remake the GameCube version? It's the best game out of the Paper Mario series. Besides, we already got the N64 game on the VC. This is dumb...

Aw, I beat this game on the VC already. I'll probably won't buy it - actually I probably will, but not immediately.

Yyyyep, my immediate thoughts upon reading the title:
Wake me when it's Mario RPG.
The gamecube one I actually liked, but the first Paper Mario is far inferior to either of the other two RPGs.

I wonder why Nintendo's so intent on making sure Super Mario RPG doesnt get any attention? I'd like to be able to play my favorite childhood RPG on my shiny DS. Is that so much to ask?

Make it cheaper than just buying an already price-gouged 64 cart of the game off of ebay and I'll be interested, Nintendo. But not until then.
At least this means that there are still chances for ports of N64 games already on the Virtual Console for those of us like myself who won't touch the service. Give me tuned-up DS ports of Pokemon Snap or Kirby 64 and I'll be all over it.

Okay..Who wouldn't already have this on VC who wanted the game? NO ONE that's who! This'll flop if they actually do it, but I could dig some Mario RPG. I still think Super Paper Mario is my favorite out of the paper mario series.

I want it but have not purchased for VC yet. I figured why buy it until I have the time to play it?

Yeah. I don't have it either. I haven't used the VC yet.
And there are *some* people that haven't got a Wii. (Shocker, I noez).
I'd be tempted to buy it for DS, as long as it was either budget (£19.99, $40-ish?) or cheaper than normal releases. (£25, $50-ish).
I wouldn't pay full price for a port of a game I could get for £7 on the VC, Unless there were some extras. (I don't know what they could add, other than more missions.)
And they already have it translated, so I'm expecting near simultaneous release. Not waiting for years after US and JAP get it.
BTW, If they're considering porting Paper Mario, and they've already ported SM64, what else are they thinking of porting? SSB? LoZ? etc. It's possible.

I'm thinking the absence of Super Mario RPG perhaps has something to do with the fact that it's a Square-developed game. As far as I know we haven't seen any other Square games on the VC yet.
Personally, I'm looking forward to chance to play this one if true (no Wii, no N64)

Honest to Goddish, Square has admitted that they won't release on VC anything they think they can sell on the DS for full price.

Personally, I never went though the N64 phase, so I never got to play SMRPG or PM. I'd *love* to have the chance to play PM now...especially on the Metro on the way home from work or whenever/wherever I want.
Just my $0.03 (adjust for inflation).

1) I have yet to play Paper Mario. TTYD was fun and so far SPM is pretty good too.
2) Maybe Square will give in once their precious Wii Ware title starts making them some monies?
3) Super Mario RPG should have been released on GBA as Super Mario Advance 5. Couldn't you just see it:
"final SNES Mario game re-released as final GBA Mario game"?

Paper Mario is one of my all time favorite games, and since I don't have a Wii or an N64 anymore, I'd be super excited to play it on my Ds.
