More oldschool Shoot'em Ups please. Nanostray was a decent effort, but I'd love to see something japanese.

I agree: DS needs more shmups. Ketsui: Death Label is coming soon and it looks very promising.
Also, more 2D fighters. Bleach proved that this genre works on the system. I want to see SNK and Capcom bringing over some classic games, such as Street Fighter Alpha 2/3, Super Street Fighter 2, King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, Last Blade or Real Bout with online. The DS d-pad is good for fighters and the 4 face buttons cry out for SNK fighters especially. Hell, KoF EX2 on GBA is one hell of a fighter and it essentially uses 2 buttons. Add in the extra horsepower of the DS and KoF sounds even more spectacular.

I'd like some more minigame collections, especially in the form of brain training games. Oh, and more Horse games too, there's been a real lack of good Horse games...
On a serious note: More 2D platformers and shoot-em-ups. There's few good ones of the former outside of the major brands, and there's just outright few of the latter.

I agree, more quality 2D platformers. A lot of developers seem to be going for 3D or 2.5D, which just doesn't look that great... Frankly, I'm very disappointed at how new Prince looks, but I can't wait for the new Castlevania.
Also, fighters and beat-em-ups... I really enjoy those 2 genres, but they seem to be a rarity, at least good ones. In all these years of DS, I enjoyed Jump Ultimate Stars, Bleach DS 2nd and the latest Flame Rumble Hyper - Moeyo Mirai. Shinobi Retsuden II was alright, decent at least. And that's where my list ends. Rest of them are mediocre, if not even horrid (like the latest Windy x Windam). I really hope there'll at least be Jump Stars 3 and Bleach DS 4th, as they are shining beacons to DS fighting enthusiasts.

J RPGs
Too often I find myself not beating down moving trees or absurd demons with a staff/ sword/ fists/ magic.

Really, and when you're not beating down absurd demons, what's life worth?

I'd really like to see more third-person, point'n click graphic adventures. I know there are some out there, but they are either ports/remakes, or lousy ones. I don't know what's happened to the creativity in this type of games... we need more stuff like MI, DOTT, LSLs, The Dig... Games with great, yet not impossible puzzles, amazing stories, incredible humour...and please not 3D!! I think the graphics perfection was archieved in MI3 and LSL7...or Broken Sword.
Anyway, I think it's quite specific what I want... :P
Also, I'm always thrilled to see games that really use the capabilities of the DS in an intelligent way, without recurring to minigames...(a game that looks like the DS was made for it, though simple, is Quickspot, give it a try!)

i totally agree. on my *cough* homebrew device with my backups, i have a huge number of games in my "puzzle" and "rpg" folder, but the fighting folder is definitely lacking. Right now the only games in it are Bleach and a japanese release of Naruto Shinobi Retsuden. Why no 2d fighting love, NDS?
... and why haven't we seen any new racing games besides Mario Kart for a while?

Yes, wholeheartedly agreed.
With Professor Layton we saw that the DS is absolutely the perfect device for adventure games.

y'know, I could have sworn I saw some news that Street Fighter IV was coming for the DS, but I can't seem to confirm it now...

Yeah I remember reading something like that as well, though it may have just been wishful thinking on the author's part. Haven't heard anything about it since.

Proper real-time strategy games and quality FPS's. Then some platformers, beat-em-ups and that kinda stuff. Oh and futuristic racing... and some good flightsims... maybe even space flightsims with lasers :D

More "coaching" games - but only good ones, please.
The DS is perfect for these. I want one that teaches me how to play chess or poker, disembodied head style like Brain Age.
This is the board, the queen moves like this, here's a classic opening, etc. It looks like you're stuck; here's a move you can make.
The game should measure and keep track of my progress Brain Age style too. It should also be comprehensive enough to take me up to an advanced level of play.

I agree, though I've never played Brain Age myself (gave it to my wife and bought other games for myself).
Clubhouse Games is a terrific collection, but the AI sucks in many games (and at least one has faulty rules). I'd like to see a collection like this that truly challenges a player all the way. And if it can *coach* the player too, all the better.
I'm tempted to try My Chinese Coach just for fun, even though I doubt I'll ever use what I learn.
One thing I really do love about DS games is that many of them have great tutorials. Advance Wars: Dual Strike would be a lot less fun for me if the experienced COs didn't brief me on the missions and give tips on how to play well.
It's a lot nicer to be coached or walked through a game than just beaten up by it.
Real-time action games are OK for a change of pace, but I don't need any more of those.

I'm actually enjoying the huge amount of RPGs coming out for the DS.
There are other genres that I wish to have more of though. More platformers would be nice, otherwise any kind of shooters (vertical or horizontal) as well as run-n-gun games like Contra.

More straight up shooters would be a wonderful thing. Where's the R-Type love and such? More arcade-style games are begging to be on the DS. Nanostray is great and SIEx is awesome too...need more...
You know, now thinking about it I think the DS needs a good old-fashioned racing game too. Think classic NES-era game like RC Pro-Am or Offroad. Doesn't need to be 3D...just fast and fun with solid controls.
Any solid 2D action/adventure game is always fun --- the Contras, Castlevanias, Mega Mans...those are great but why is it always the same franchises? Time for some others to step up! And where's the Smash TV remake?
And I'll second the need for some solid 2D fighters too. Bring on the Samurai Showdown and other classics...hell, remake them, we don't care --- just don't poop out on the controls.
Good topic here...hopefully the devs are listening!

three genres...
beat'em ups: Yeah. they're not that popular nowadays but I always see some people asking on bbss. Where are the coop beat'em ups? I'd really love to see Dungeons & Dragons (arcado vr.) ported to any system.
Shmups: Nanostray r0x and there's Bangai-O... I guess Space Invaders is a kind of a schmup also... but... I'd really like Ikaruga like shmups and something like 1942 or gradius.
2d fighting games. Well, to be honest, 3d good fighting games also... There are 5 great fighting games on DS. The Mortal Kombat 3 port, Bleach and Bleach 2nd, Jump all and Ultimate Stars. And that's that. No Street Fighters or KoFs, even though they do have their GREAT GBA versions. Did I overlook some game?

I'd love to see Gundam 00 localized for the US. Seeing the trailer reminded me of Virtual On, and that was just awesome fun.
So, more awesome robot shooter/brawlers? Hopefully with WiFi.
I mean, my other deep-seated desire (a Chrono Trigger remake for the DS) is coming in December, and Gauntlet DS will be coming in October (with WiFi co-op and integrated VoIP chat), and there's a Final Fantasy Tactics on the system already... and Pokemon... and Dragon Quest coming... Wow. By the end of the year, I'll be in the gaming equivalent of piggy heaven.
