Alekmaul hasn't revealed much about the project, except that it's coming this September sporting a 60 fps frame rate, likely without any sound due to technical difficulties implementing the audio. For now, you'll have to settle with the screenshots below!
If this is your first time hearing about the game, Black Tiger was originally released to arcades in 1987 before later being ported to various home computer systems and game compilations for the PSP/PS2/Xbox 360. Designed to be the spiritual successor to Ghosts 'n Goblins, the game stars a barbarian on a quest to slay three dragons.

Is that title a William Blake reference? In a video game blog? Now I've seen everything.

I read a while back that Black Tiger was essentially Capcom's Castlevania.
Reminds me a lot of the Gargoyle's Quest/Demon's Crest titles, also.

This game was a serious quarter muncher.

I remember playing this one as a kid in Southern Oregon... good times.
It is also included on the Capcom Classics 2 compilation for PS2 and XBOX(?).

Black Tiger took *forever* to get anywhere - hence aforementioned quarter eating. It's certainly a challenging game and it coming to the DS is sweet. But the game suffers from wash-rinse-repeat syndrome bad. Hopefully they'll add a save-state option or something. I know that's all anti-arcade but with this game you'll need it.

Thanks for covering this kind of game. Black Tiger isn't the finest example, but I like to see more attention for good old-fashioned arcade titles such as this. Another good one (by Capcom) is Nemo.

In fact, if Capcom brought Nemo out to the DS and sold it for $7, I would buy it.
