It needs to be more powerful, definitely. Music would be cool, but yeah, pretty much everyone has and iPod, and as far as a camera goes, it depends on the quality. If it's just basically a phone camera, it would also be something of a waste. A higher quality camera though, would be pretty awesome I think.

Or they can go for a moduler design and everyone would be happy.

I don't like paying for what I don't need, and I really don't like paying for I don't want.
But I'd pay for a new slimmer model, just shallow I guess (I don't get those Dove ads)

If you want an all in one without phone, get a PSP. There's no reason for DS to go there. The camera add on for the PSP wasn't popular and there's a reason. People already have cameras and/or camera phones. Why would they want a game system to do this?
I think GPS would be cool because you could send GPS coordinates and then meet people randomly on the street for battles, but that would never happen because Americans fear unknown people and the GPS function would be way to expensive to justify putting it in.

I would've left the multimedia stuff off. I'm at the point where I prefer my game systems to be just that - game systems.
Just equip it with a wireless-G chip and let it use higher-security routers and I'd be happy.

some PDA functions would be nice, but the camera and music functions are a bit over the top. The majority of us already own a mp3 player and a digital camera, and I would much rather like Nintendo to focus on improving the DS as a gaming device, not as a multi-media gadget. Use that extra space/power to improve the CPU, add more internal memory, improve the sound quality, ect.

The music part is pointless. The PSP can do it decently because of the easy-to-access menu and having the controls always out, but the DS with it's flip-close design and bulky menu seem less likely to work.
On the bright side, this does guarantee some sort of change in menu for the DS, as well as the possibility of like mentioned Virtual Console compatability, and maybe even synching with a computer for downloads thanks to the SD slot.
As far as the camera goes; it seems a little tacky. Isn't the DS supposed to be a Gaming Console? On second thought.. *swipes DS under passing girl's skirt*.
..I'm kidding. (:

On the contrary, anyone who's messed with flashcarts before will know how cool it is to play music through earphones while closing your DS. At least, it is if you disable shoulder-button controls :D

Hmmmm. This sounds pants to me, but that's just the description so far. Its totally un-necessary... if they turn it into a PSP, i'll flip.

I have messed with Flash Carts, and I find playing music on my DS real bulky and uncomfortable. My Shuffle does the job much more nicely :/

Unless it's the DS2 (New system altogether), I won't be upgrading.

I don't feel like the new add-ons particularly warrant an upgrade, to be honest. Unless the DS itself is given higher specs, I probably won't be upgrading until a while after its release.

Camera + Music = Increased Game Functionality?
I'd be pretty cool with being able to port music into a game like EBA. There could be some interesting uses for both of them, game-wise.
Though, I want to see the redesign before I decide on it - my DS Phat is still pretty great, and I am still less than interested in the Lite.

Hmm, I don't think they're going to announce a new DS. Not while the DS Lite is still going so strong. Besides which, as nice as a DS with these features would be, it doesn't seem to go along with what Nintendo's been doing lately; storage, camera, and media functionality seem to be targeted more at the core gamer than Nintendo's recent target audience of "everyone who isn't between the ages of 13 and 25".
Additionally, the timing of the rumor doesn't really tell us anything. While it's true that a rumor that isn't bogus is more likely to crop up right before a big media event, it's equally true that hoaxers know this, and are also more likely to make stuff up right before big events.

Cameras and music are core domain? when did this happen?

Core gamers are more likely to own PS3s and 360s, both of which have both of these features, as opposed to the Wii, which doesn't have a camera, and barely has music playing (through the Photo channel only).
Not only that, but core gamers usually fall into the same age range as the people who tend to buy (or receive as gifts) phones with cameras and MP3 capabilities.
I'm not saying that other people wouldn't appreciate these features, but it's not really a selling point for soccer moms or 4 year olds.
Then again, it might be nice to see Nintendo putting more effort into pleasing core gamers and less into minigame collections and non-games. It's such a waste to see a company that has historically made some of the best games ever, like Super Mario World and Ocarina of Time, almost completely wasting the skill and talent they've shown they have on games like Brain Age and Wii Fit.

You forget that hardcore gamers play casual games, and that casual gamers can be interested in hardcore titles. and your usage of 'core' isn't even correct('core' means current consumers as opposed to expanded market buyers aka new consumers)
as for 'hardcore' vs. 'casual' there isn't even a universally agreed upon meaning of 'hardcore', and some can be be interpreted to mean FPSes are casual titles(the 'easy to pick up & play' theory. so many I've played don't go much beyond aim & shoot really), another could be interpreted as animal crossing being 'core', because of the hours of play and dedication it takes to earn perfect town status(which might explain the weirdness at nintendo's E3 booth..... cammie needs to be fired)
heck, some definitions exclude all but an extremely small number of games(again, the pick up and play one) one definition even states graphics define hardcore, which could include wii fit if they set it to 1080p and realism'd the crap out of it.

It's not a rumour any more. Nikkei's website confirmed it. It's like if the Wallstreet Journal had written an article about it.

I'm more interested in software, honestly. But if we're going the hardware route, I'd like an analog stick. Playing 3d games with a dpad is terrible.
