PSP Fanboy review: Star Ocean: First Departure {PSP Fanboy}

Oct 20th 2008 10:47PM I am pleasantly surprised by the fairness of this review: there's room for reminiscing over the nostalgia factor of it, it takes the good points and mentions them, and is honest about the bad points - tackling this review by today's standards, rather than let nostalgia take over the job. Color me impressed.

That said, I will be picking this one up, if nothing else, to review on the show. I hated Star Ocean: 'Till the End of Time myself, and while this battle system reminds me *a lot* of Tales of Legendia and such - that being a great thing -, I still feel a bit sore towards the franchise in general.

Sep 30th 2008 12:34AM So not only we don't get games on this system, but we get bad press linked to it? Sheesh, we don't get a break, do we.

Sep 29th 2008 7:12PM Not surprising that this level got made, considering the absolute and Infinite Improbability Theory. It was so improbable that Nintendo would do this that it was, in turn, absolutely guaranteed that it'd happen by users.

The better question is: where's the Magrathea level with playable Marvin?

DS Daily: I think I'm learning Japanese, I really think so {DS Fanboy}

Sep 23rd 2008 3:23PM PS: And the US comment wasn't directed to you, it was an observation in general as I've gotten the same thing from people in the US over and over. You just happen to be Canadian or living there, but you apparently share the same mindset or something.

Sep 23rd 2008 3:20PM I don't know how to break this to you, but a) in the tech field, it's an amazing language to know. b) learning languages is nothing but good for you. c) If you already know two of the biggest languages in the world (Spanish and English in my case) then why not go for Japanese as a third?

If you are still clinging onto "just for the animu hurr durr" I think you are being very shortsighted. Don't vent your frustrations for being unable to learn or speak multiple languages by calling anyone willing to go for it a "weaboo".

Also, I'm beginning to think that the US did itself a disservice by being the center of the world for so long. Everything that's not "American" or "English" or "theirs" is a waste of time. Funny how that works.

Sep 23rd 2008 12:52PM I am definitely checking out this one. Ever since I had to stop taking Japanese in University due to time/money constrains, I've felt held back with the learning at your own pace thing. But at the moment, I am using Twitter with several Firefox extensions that are helping me with keeping immersed into the language, as well as 3 iPhone apps (Kanji Flip and Japanese Flip are pretty awesome) that are also doing it's part. I can only imagine that this game would just help me continue learning in more places/circumstances and/or different ways, which is always a good thing.

Also guys, pro-tip: you don't have to be a "weeaboo" to want to learn Japanese. Remember, just because you guys never had to learn another language (you know, since you already speak English), doesn't mean that the rest of us who *had* to learn English as well as our native languages and several others wouldn't want to keep learning new languages.
