Want to play Puzzle Quest: Galactrix early?

D3Publisher is looking for some help with the next Puzzle Quest game. See, they need people to give it a play, however it should be noted that this only applies to folks living in the L.A. area. Where's the east coast love, D3?

How do you get on board with this? Send an email with the subject "Puzzle Quest Research" to lisa[at]mindofthegamer[dawt]com before April 18th. Names will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis, and are also subject to "additional criteria" needed to qualify. We guess you'll find that out the day of.

The lucky gamers that do get to head on down for some quality time with new Puzzle Quest stuff will not only get to play Galactrix, but also that Xbox Live expansion, Revenge of the Plague Lord, along with "other" Puzzle Quest stuff. Any of our west coast readers going to sign up for this?

Checking out more fighting in Naruto: Ninja Destiny

Following up yesterday's trailer that sold us on the gameplay is another trailer that shows us ... more gameplay. But hey, we're not complaining, because we're liking what we see here. The DS is starved for great fighting games (well, those of us outside of Japan are), so we're excited to see a suitable installment in the genre.

Anyone else excited for Naruto: Ninja Destiny?

Naruto: Ninja Destiny has some smooth gameplay

Wow, we must say that we're fairly surprised the gameplay looks so good. Maybe it's because we only got short bursts of gameplay footage when the game was announced for North America, but we're extra excited about the title now. And, with the beefed-up state it'll find itself in once it arrives in our native country, we're even that much more happy. It's like a happy overload or something.

What do you all think? Stud or dud?

NARUTO: Ninja Destiny gets beefed up for North America

Even though Japanese gamers know their way around a video game, it would seem that Tomy and D3 are doing all they can to make sure NARUTO: Ninja Destiny is better than its Japanese cousin when it arrives in North America. What they've done is smoothed out the framerate, increasing the tension of combat. Nobby Matsuo, the associate producer from Tomy , says "the gameplay experience markedly different is what you would be used to if you played the Japanese version in terms of the button responses, attacks and the speed of the combat. It's a lot more frantic, it's a lot faster." Hey, we're all for fast combat in a ninja-based game!

Other improvements include an overhauled story mode, where the North American storyline is completely different from the Japanese version of the game. The single player campaign will take place between episodes 100 and 140.

Play DS while learning to drive

Vingt-et-Un, the developer responsible for some of the weirder Simple 2000 games like The Zombie vs. Ambulance, have created a new entry in D3 Publisher's Simple DS series. Simple DS Vol. 14: The Driving School is a DS program designed to teach the rules of the road, with text-based quizzes and drills. It also attempts to teach driving skill with "practical" driving-instruction segments.

This looks great for us, since we taught ourselves to drive on Spy Hunter anyway. We just need to break our habit of trying to drive into 18-wheelers and we'll have it down.

While we're talking about this game, we want to complain about the lack of Simple series games in the US. D3 started a US branch, and they currently publish the Naruto games, but the only games we've seen from their hilarious budget series were Break 'em All and Dino Rider. The Xbox 360 just got Earth Defense Force-- we hope that's the start of a trend.
