To-Love-Ru: Do I have something on my butt?

File this one as another crazy Japanese game. We knew about To-Love-Ru awhile back, but we never knew it'd be like this. As you can see in the video above, the main goal of the game seems to be slapping young ladies on their bottoms. Well, maybe not slapping them so much as clearing evil little things away from their backside.

Move over, Doki Doki Majo Shinpan. There's a new almost-obscene title in town.

More new characters to bother in Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo

New screens of SNK's awkward adventure sequel Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo have revealed three new characters: another angel who will compel Akuji to annoy and prod girls in his ongoing witch hunt, and ... another girl, no doubt to be annoyed and prodded. Also some guy!

The bespectacled angel Senome comes from the same angel world as Lulu and the demonic-looking Kuro, and keeps up on the latest angel-world news via "Angelnet." Which sounds rather like SNK is portraying her as an angel Internet nerd. Cute!

Seiji is a school friend of Akuji's who is, for some reason, unpopular. Also he may be a girl, because we can't tell sometimes.

The (obvious) girl, Himeki, is a self-styled reporter who carries a camera around to document everything she sees. She becomes interested in the reports of supernatural activity on campus, though something tells us she will soon wish she had not investigated it.

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo forgoes nipples

Since Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo is risqué in its essence, we're not surprised that the boxart would also be rather ... bold. The blue bar that wraps its way around the cover lets perusers of the box see through the girls' clothes, hence the assaulted looks on their faces.

The girl on the left used quick reflexes to cover herself up, while the girl on the right only had a sliver of indecency exposed. The girl in the middle, though? Not so lucky -- not even because her breasts were displayed for gaming consumers to see, but because she has no nipples. Maybe she's related to the guys in Duel Love? Or, maybe that's how you go about proving she's a witch.

In all seriousness, we don't expect SNK to put nipples on the front of the box. Maybe they should have gone with a different design, though, so that the girls wouldn't look like ... well, freaks. Still, we know most guys aren't too picky when it comes to this kind of thing, and will enjoy the opportunity to stylus-poke the ladies of the game nonetheless. Oh, and the little pointing hand in the bottom right says "touch," lest your forget your task.

If you don't mind watching your game trailers taped from a crowded store in Akihabara, you might want to check out this video of Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo (posted after the break due to its NSFW nature). Who knows, you may be especially interested in the game knowing that you can poke two different sets of girls if you buy the super expensive limited edition bundle.

Of course, if all you really want to see in this video are the NSFW butt wiggling, boob jiggling, and crotch touching parts, that all starts after the 1:05 mark.

More risque pictures from Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo appear

Want to see some more screens and art of the girls you'll be poking in Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo? We may disapprove of your desires, being the puritanical prudes that we are, but lucky for you, we're total enablers.

We're also big teases, posting a picture of this devil (named Kuro) on the front page rather than the aforementioned girls, but we're only looking out for the children. Really, think of the children!

If things like close-up hentai cleavage and "accidental" bondage are considered NSFW at your job or school (which, we're assuming, they are), you may not want to click on the break until after you get home. Some of the more avid Doki Doki Majo Shinpan fans, though, might recognize some of these screens from the scans we posted earlier.

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo innovates

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Duo is pushing the envelope in the girl-inspecting witch-discovery genre, if these scans are any indication. The ancillary gameplay is preserved from the original title: look around a school environment, and, in action sequences. use the stylus to bat energy attacks back at antagonistic teenage witches. Of course, the most famous, pseudo-hentai gameplay element is also there: inspecting girls with the stylus in a search for emblems that reveal their status as witches.

If the gameplay is exactly the same, then, how is the sequel such an improvement over its predecessor? More nudity! Touch! the post break to get an eyeful of magazine scans.

DS Daily: OMGWTF with us

Yesterday we took a look at some of the weirdest DS-related games and stories of 2007. We got to mention things like Doki Doki Majo Shinpan and Spanish for Everyone again, which meant that we had a great time. But we couldn't touch on every bizarro story that crossed our "desks" in 2007. We didn't discuss the BioWare Sonic RPG, for example (in that case, it was because we didn't want to be murdered).

What was your favorite DS-related WTF moment this year? Did some random training game come along that got you L'ing OL? Or was something advertised in a way that, maybe, it shouldn't have been? We want you to join in on the fun!

Gifts for us (or people like us)

Gaming sites are inundated with holiday gift guides at the end of the year, listing the best and most popular games that everyone pretty much already has (or knows about). Well, we're not going in for that this year. Our gift guide will help you find the best gifts in categories the other sites won't cover -- because we just made them up.

Of course we recommend buying DS games and accessories for everyone on your shopping list -- whether they want them or not. But, ironically, the hardest people to give the gift of DS are the people who love the DS the most -- people who live the DS. In a word, us. Game bloggers. Well, not us specifically, but people like us who are far too enthusiastic about the Nintendo DS.

We're so nuts about the DS that we devote most of our lives to talking about it. We know pretty much everything out there, and we spend entirely too much time building our collections. We're emblematic of exactly the kind of brutally insane people for whom it's nearly impossible to shop. That's why we've put together this handy guide to the kind of stuff we would love, but wouldn't necessarily think to buy ourselves. Not because we want you to buy gifts for us, although we certainly won't stop you if you think we deserve a little token of appreciation.

See what we did there? We've given you the gift of an obvious opening through which to insult us! 'Tis the season!

Running with the devil in Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2

Teaser posters for Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2 decorated SNK's booth at TGS, and now SNK has started releasing screens and information about the game, which looks pretty much exactly like the first one. Akuji, the protagonist of Doki Doki Majo Shinpan, is now guided by a cute lil' devil called Kuro in the sequel, instead of the angel, Lulu, who enabled his witch-touchery in the first game.

Amusingly, despite the apparent change in alignment, Akuji's directive is exactly the same: poke at girls to determine their status as witches. We guess he must have a different reason to find witches in this new game. The deep Doki Doki Majo Shinpan storyline will just keep us guessing until the very end!

Metal Slug 7, Doki Doki Majo Shinpan 2 on the way

This week's Famitsu contains two SNK mini-megatons, according to the NeoGAFfers liveblogging their readthroughs. First, a sequel to a game that plenty of people think shouldn't have existed in the first place, Doki Doki Majo Shinpan. Maybe this one will be less boring than the original. Or, maybe it'll be exactly like the first one.

The other game is something that people can express their interest in, even outside of the safe anonymity of the Internet: Metal Slug 7. This is the first game in the main series not to be released to arcades, and it's going to be a DS game (Metal Slug 3D was a Japanese PS2 release, and Metal Slug Advance came out on the GBA). It also means that the same system is getting brand new (2D) Contra and Metal Slug games, and is therefore the best system ever for the run & gun game.

Disappointing Majo Shinpan

We had always hoped that Doki Doki Majo Shinpan's gameplay would be so much fun that even people who were thoroughly grossed out by the content would begrudgingly buy, play, and love it. We wanted it to become the new Tetris: so good that even non-gamers would pick up systems for it. This is mainly because the idea makes us laugh. A lot.

Our dream of a Shinpan in every home, however, is not to be. Chris Kohler didn't review the game, but only because that would require him to play it a second time. What was once presumed to be shockingly controversial now sounds painfully boring, with the one part that anyone cares about comprising only a minuscule portion of the playtime. Kohler estimated about an hour and a half of text adventuring (which we like, if the storyline's worth it, which we're pretty sure this one isn't) to one quick round of "battle mode" and a brief witch-touching round. Or, as he said, "It was basically two hours of my life wasted on boredom, followed by ten minutes of yep-this-is-as-silly-as-I-imagined."

That leaves us in the uncomfortable position of dismissing a game for not enough inappropriate content. If we're going to play the witch-touching game, then we expect a significant amount of witch-touching.

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan marketing continues to be out of control

Phone cards and manga were only the beginning -- soon, gamers will be able to touch witches in their beds. SNK Playmore is said to be planning on marketing Doki Doki Majo Shinpan pillow covers at this year's Tokyo Game Show. Considering the game did so well in preorders, we can't say we're too suprised at all the tie-ins ... and we can't help but wonder if there's going to be an entire witch-hunting franchise in the future. After all, witches are insidious. They could be anywhere -- even on your pillow -- so you gotta touch 'em all.

There are also keychains, for those who like the character art, but maybe want something a little less gratuitous.

For those who place little value in the chase, that exhilarating, flirtatious period when nothing is guaranteed, actually playing through Doki Doki Majo Shinpan is secondary to groping its adolescent witches. Rather than have you labor through the text-heavy release's dialogue and plot setup, Stage Clear has posted artwork wrested from the Japanese game, enabling you to skip the journey and get right to your depraved destination.

While none of the shots are scandalous enough to land you a ten-year stay in a federal prison, we wouldn't say that they're safe for work viewing either. The wiccan nymphets are depicted in poses that would leave Humbert Humbert dizzy with delight ("the king crying for joy, the trumpets blaring, the nurse drunk"), their faces reacting to the taps and strokes of an unseen stylus. Scurry shamefully past the post break for a couple of those images.

Buffering ... Buffering ... Majo Shinpan

If you've been following Doki Doki Majo Shinpan with the same level of interest as we somehow have developed, then you probably saw our first video footage of the game, taken from a store demo. But that was in a noisy store, shot with a handheld camera, and not really the ideal presentation for game video.

Well, this is significantly more ideal. It's a Windows Media stream of that same video, in much better quality. The only problem-- like we said, it's a Windows Media stream. Expect to wait a bit.

Doki Doki Majo Shinpan has sound?

Here's an interesting item for people whose primary interest in Doki Doki Majo Shinpan is the music: an official soundtrack CD will be released on July 25th. We've only heard a few seconds of drowned-out music from the game, so we have no idea as to its quality.

There's also the Doki Doki Majo Shinpan Special Fanbook, which contains artwork from the game and developer interviews, as most fanbooks do. In addition, it comes with a mousepad, two posters, and ... a paper doll. For some reason, we think this is going to be the bigger seller.
