Pokemans: DSVision shows you them

The DSVision content download service is getting some new content that seems extremely well-suited to DS owners: Pokémon. The Pokémon movie series will be available for the DSVision flash card starting April 20 -- though not all of them will be available online.

The first release will be the first movie in the series, Mewtwo Strikes Back, released over here as Pokémon: The First Movie. It will be released as a download for just 500 yen. Strangely, the rest of the releases -- four more movies -- won't be released as downloads (at least, they aren't planned to be for now), but as MicroSD cards preloaded with one movie each for 2,980 yen ($27) Lucario and the Mystery of Mew will be released as a special-edition package containing a DSVision card for 4,280 yen ($39).

This actually isn't AM3's first experiment in selling Pokémon video for play on Nintendo handhelds. The DSVision creator previously sold Pokémon movies on SD cards for play on their Advance Movie Adaptor.

Test your useless knowledge with Super Brain Tease

From the consistently high Brain Training sales in the UK, we have to assume that at least some of you Brits are nuts for the kind of games that give you a mental workout. Lexicon Entertainment is even banking on that assumption, as the company is releasing five different trivia games under the Super Brain Tease license. Each game will have a different subject, giving you a choice from the following:
  • Football (aka soccer, for those of us in the U.S.)
  • History
  • Geography
  • Music
  • Movies
We find it amusing that you Brits are so crazy about your soccer, er, football, that Lexicon has ditched a broader "Sports" category in favor of something so specific. All poking fun aside, though, should these titles sell well enough they'll only be the first of many.

The main allure of such games, we're sure, will be their budget price points, as each edition will be offered for £9.99. If the idea of trivia at such a cost interests you, you can expect to see the Super Brain Tease series hit retail in Q4.

Igor has nothing to do with Young Frankenstein, sadly

No matter how you pronounce his name, the assistant is vital to all of the doctor's work. Frankenstein can't be expected to carry his own bags or retrieve brains himself now, can he? Of course not. So, it's about time the guy finally got some attention.

While we'd like to say the upcoming game (which ties in with next year's movie) is based off of Mel Brooks' masterpiece Young Frankenstein, sadly that is not the case. Instead, the movie and game are a more family-friendly version of the classic monster tale. This game is to be handled by Interactive Game Group and Legacy Interactive. But, hey, at least Igor will be voiced by Steve Buscemi.

Harry Potter and the Free Movie Tickets

Accio free tickets! GameStop and Electronics Boutique are both offering a free Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix movie pass with every online purchase of the film's Nintendo DS and Wii games.

Due for release this June 25th, the action adventure title tracks the hocus-pocus hijinks of the lightning-scarred brit and his friends' fifth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Though we can't reveal whether or not Hermione dies in this one, we can summon up the console-universal trailer that Electronic Arts released not too long ago. Head past the post break to Platform 9¾ for the embedded video.

Warren Ellis blogs about Castlevania animated movie

Comic book legend Warren Ellis has been keeping a production blog to update fans on his script work for Castlevania: Dracula's Curse, an animated adaptation of Konami's Castlevania III for the NES. The Transmetropolitan author has been candid with details about the 80-minute, direct-to-DVD film, discussing characters he will be cutting out of the film (e.g. Grant DaNasty) and plans to make the story a trilogy.

Reassuring us that he won't be butchering the franchise with an Uwe Boll approach, Warren made it a point to emphasize Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi's bothersome involvement: "He remains absolutely passionate about Castlevania. After eight rewrites of pre-production material, I remain absolutely passionate about beating the crap out of IGA in a dark alleyway one day."

DS-Xtreme does everything a PSP can

It's pretty easy. There seems to be a very positive correlation between ease of use and price in the world of homebrew, and the latest all-in-one product is no exception. The DS-Xtreme 2GB is touting itself as a PSP killer, featuring a decent amount of space for homebrew applications, music, and movies. It's an elegant solution, connecting to the PC via standard USB and fitting in the standard DS-cartridge slot with no extra hardware required ... but the damn thing costs $129.99.

If you're very rich looking to break into the homebrew scene, which is actually quite developed on the DS, this is an excellent option, but we do highly recommend a bit of intelligent shopping before making your decision. The DS-X is not yet released, but it's close, so keep an out at their website for the official date and further details.
