The DS Life: His and hers

As someone who planned and enjoyed a wedding less than a year ago (actually, my wife organized it all, as I was busy blogging), I can tell you this -- it is a difficult thing to find a good wedding photographer.

It's tempting to hire anyone local who seems the least bit adequate with a camera, so long as they're cheap. Even worse, you might consider relying on that friend of yours with a fancy digital camera, or on some dude videotaping the ceremony.

But if you manage to fight off that rational part of you that keeps begging you to hire a photographer for a sensible price, the next time your friends pull out their bland wedding photo album, you'll be able to smugly think to yourself, "Ha, our wedding totally kicked their wedding's ass."

What's the best way to pass time before a wedding? DS, of course!

As we were spending time perusing through flickr photos (because we like to see how people who aren't chained to a laptop and forced to blog forever live), we came across the interesting picture you see to your right. Now, we know nothing of traditional Indian weddings (which we're assuming this is, also we know nothing of plain old regular weddings, either), but we do know about getting our game on. Honestly, we're just surprised that everyone is all smiles as she plays away on her sweet pink DS Lite. We thought weddings were supposed to be ultra serious and that they left no room for enjoying games. Shows what we know!

Even our own Eric Caoili admits to enjoying his DS a bit before his own wedding. He remarks that he was playing some Mr. Driller minutes before it all went down. We congratulate him on both playing an awesome game and having the guts to possibly anger the bride-to-be on their wedding day. The man has courage, we'll give him that! But, then again, we're sure that she couldn't argue with the merits of drilling several hundred meters underground.

Possibly the second best gaming cake ever

Okay, during Zelda week, we said that after we had seen the ultimate in gaming cakes, we would never post another one again. Well, first of all, we lied, blatantly and outrageously. Still love us? Good. Second of all, this one has the whole first Super Mario Bros. level! C'mon, how could we resist? Short answer: we could not.

We just hope none of the guests got the urge to smash any bricks ....

Zelda Week: Possibly the best gaming cake ever

Okay, that's it. We're done. From now on, gamer weddings just don't matter. They're empty, soulless shells next to this. Sure, Tetris cakes are awesome, and Zelda ice sculptures are cool as, well, ice, but this one takes the cake -- literally. This Wind Waker-inspired wedding cake is a work of art. We're pretty sure we wouldn't even be able to cut it, much less eat it ... in fact, we would need to create some sort of force field technology to preserve this thing until the end times. Bounce on over to Kotaku if you want to see the top in detail, and weep that you do not have such an item preserved on a high shelf in your home.

Unless you do. In which case, we want it.

(Some guy at) Blizzard loves Nintendo

You might think if a level designer at Blizzard opts for a gamer wedding, the main decorative theme might be something like Night Elves and Gnomes, but that's not how Cory Stockton rolls. No, he and his new wife Christi went for something a little more classic: Nintendo.

Clearly, we approve of this decision. Also, of the completely outrageous and awesome ice sculpture, which looks just about perfect for Zelda week. Maybe we could get one of those for the DS Fanboy offices ....

The cake, of course, featured Nintendo themes, with Mario and Peach perched on the top tier, and all of the tables were named after consoles. But the best part? Even the wedding's music was lifted from classic Nintendo games. Now we're officially jealous.

Check out the full gallery at Joystiq to see what a real gamer wedding looks like. We must say: it's epic.
