Dragon Quest IX in full color

We've seen some of this before, particularly the lower right panel, but only in scans -- look at the difference in the full color screenshots! The production values on this are staggering; remember the jaggy screenshots from Chocobo Tales? The backgrounds in Final Fantasy III? Those games are beautiful in motion, but suffer somewhat in stills. If this comparison is any indication of what's in store for us with Dragon Quest IX, we're not sure we can handle that much awesome.

1. This game looks great. I've never p[layed a Draon's Quest game. Will that hinder play not knowing any backstory?

2. Even the games which "continue" a story are only loosely connected so you'd have no problem following along. But the fact that you've played now of the previous games is doing yourself a big disservice. I'd start with Dragon Quest (Warrior) 4 and work your way up from there (The first three are good only if you love the traditional dungeon crawl).

3. Beautiful. I, too have never played DF. But I'm gonna pick this one up.

This is easily going to be the best looking title for the DS. It'll sell like hotcakes in Japan, but I bet that in the US it will fare less well, unfortunately.

4. I want this, and I want this bad.

Any news on a release for Joker?

5. Wow, that looks good

Dreamcast/ Early PS2 good, almost PSP good

damn...

(of course this probably just stems from the cartoony nature of the graphics, making it easier to run beautifully)

6. It also stems from the fact that it's a screenshot, and one taken for specific purpose.
