These days, in the era of Wi-Fi, ridiculously impossible trades litter the GTS. What, you don't have a Level 100 shiny Palkia? Well, hmph, you can't have my Level 7 Munchlax, then. For honest players, or those that don't have access to hacking tools, such Pokemon would take days to train up and impossible luck/determination for one with shiny status. That's why we're happy that Nintendo is cracking down on some Action Replay users, specifically ones using the "All 493 Pokemon," "All Shiny," and "National-Dex" cheats. They will henceforth be banned from online barter.
Feel free to start a flamewar regarding the justification of cheating, by the way. We're pyros.

I say, go right ahead and make use of the BanHammer. Though I wonder what happens if an average person comes into contact with a "tainted" Pokemon. I got a Lv100 Graveler(Golem) via GTS that I am mildly suspicios of (though it claims to have come from Hoenn)

I call bullshit. If you track back to the original "source" all you see is some forum member named "floyd" making wild assumptions based of his friends at school. For instance, "A big rumor is that Nintendo released these codes to Gamestops to catch people that cheat so they arn't on online anymore."

Lol if you're friend code gets blocked by nintendo its really easy to get a new one and get back online (just deleted the .sav file on the cartridge, duh!. The friend code isnt hard wired to the card or anything, if you dont belive me delete the data on your mario kart or whatever and check the FC, it will be diffrent. This is ame with MPH cheaters, or "hackers" as newbs around here call it)
Anyways I really am quite shocked you guys havent discussed pokesav, http://ds-scene.net/forum/forum.php?topic=2956 found there, and I am not quite sure if it works with the AR or not, I think you need to run it through a sav converter cause the AR makes .duc files, and pokesav takes, you guessed it, sav files. Anyways if you dont like cheating, THEN DONT ADD THOES PEOPLE TO YOURE FRIEND LIST. Simple enough eh?

Easily avoided. Just swap your DS with your friends
Friend Codes are made through a combination of identifiers from the cartridge and the DS itself
different DS = half different friend code
And i would think they would be able to tell who was cheating just by tracking the modded code that's streaming across the internet, not by arbitrarily saying "ooh, lvl 100 Shiny Lopunny, must be hacked. ban."

@5 Crass:
We did discuss Pokesav http://www.dsfanboy.com/2007/06/11/my-pokemon-saves-let-me-hack-them/
Also, I have a good feeling the ban is by MAC address, so that DS couldn't get back online

Addendum to #7:
People can also upload hacked Pokemons to GTS, and there's no easy way to tell.

"We"? So when did you join the DSFanBoy Family?
Anyways...
I'm sure they can track anything through the GTS even if it takes a billion lines of text to go through on their end. I'm sure our Trainer IDs are linked to both our MAC Address and Friend Code. Not to mention the Nintendo WFC Connection ID (I know, I said Connection twice), that you create when you first log on to Nintendo WFC and is Perma-Saved in the DS's Firmware.

I have used the shiny code here and there, but just out of curiosity, really. I wondered what a shiny Pikachu or Lucario would look like. I have yet to trade one over WiFi, and I don't plan to.
I do use an Action Replay for some minor things like that--getting the event items for the event Pokemon, for example. I don't think that's too much of an offense, and I should be able to keep trading.

Geez, it's just amazing how anything involving online will be ruined in a few short weeks by cheaters.
People just really suck I guess.

I got a pikachu by cheating (felt a void after pokemon yellow) however, I think I didn't fill a box in or something because it won't do a darn thing I say.

I'm banned myself. But the weird part is that I'm only banned from GTS, not online multiplayer.

I, for one, am grateful for this, specifically where battling is concerned. I play legitimately, and I'd rather not have my face stomped in by 6 Lvl. 100 Shinies.
The only thing that worries me is that I recieved a hacked Pokemon from someone, and I'm worried that might result in being banned. Hopefully, you only have to worry about that if you're trying to post them on the GTS. Other than that, ban away.
When it affects oters in Online Play, yeah, some cheats have to be taken care of.

@9 Actually its really very easy to change your trainer ID w/ pokesav. No its not linked to our MAC address/friend code, and NO it doesn't change the firmware. A game cannot changethe firmware of the cnsole. HA! That would be like a game dvd changing your game console's firmware. Just...no. It doesn't work like that. n00b.

Nintendo aren't banning players, at least I haven't heard of anyone being banned yet. It's just if you try to upload like a lvl 5 Dialga, the game just doesn't let you upload it.

I never use the GTS in the first place - I hate it.
Okay, that's not true, I just hate most people who use it. Like, the other day, I searched for a Drifloon (because I'm too lazy to catch it myself) and the only person offering one at that point was some stupid moron person who wanted a level 9 or under Monferno in exchange.

@6 Mr Khan:
Um, no. You may have a different Mac address from a DS, but your friend code remains the same until you delete your file. So you'd still be banned.

Number 1) Its a known fact Nintendo do not have admin controlls over online ds players... how exactly do they ban players without these?
Number 2) Players have the choice on who they battle and trade with... If the player is unhappy playing and/or trading with a cheater they have the decision to simply do neither of them with the cheater.
Number 3) Im not a cheater, I have 3 shiny pokemon caught with alot of effort, Im merely looking at the facts and trying my best to put these pathetic rumours to rest.
Regards
Richard
