DS: Public display of affection

Have you ever been caught playing the DS in public? You know, calling your Nintendog, gettin' jiggy with the touch screen, or blowing up your Mario Kart DS battle ballons using the mic. Share your public display of affection horror stories in the comments below.

1. I jst have to play DS in the train and everybody stares at me as if I were an alien. People seem to have never seen something like a portable gaming machine!

Well I live in a small village waaaaay out on the countryside ;)

2. I was at the school cafeteria trying to save a man from dieing. I had to cut the veins and then seal them. *

It was horrible, my poor patient died several times :(

Anyways, everyone was looking me funny when I accidently yelled "Oh no, youre not gonna die on me!" and proceded to do the healing touch.

*Trauma Center, Under the Knife.

3. Let's see... The day I got Nintendogs, I got it from my mass retailer of choice and let's just say I couldn't wait to get started... So... "Misha! Misha! Mi-sha! Miiiisha! Good girl!!!!!!!"

All the while, people are just a-staring. But I was anxious to begin playing and I couldn't stop. Then they started mumbling something... I didn't care. I was enjoying my game :D

4. I was walking to uni today [london south bank] and i noticed someone sat on a bench playing his ds :-)

5. generally osu! tatakae ouendan! is a pretty train-friendly game, but on the way back from my parent's city after x-mas (they imported it, what a great gift!) i was a bit embarassed by the spinning action in some of the more difficult levels. you have to draw a circle really fast on the screen, like using all your wrist control and arm strength, and i was trying to do it to the side, out of site - it must have looked like i was vigorously doing something dirty or trying to set my pants-leg on fire. thank god you don't have to sing along in that game :)

6. I try nout to play it in public....

the last time i did i was flying between Montreal and Vancouver and after my 4th hour of Mario Kart DS one of the westJet flight attendants told me that i was kind of old for this `kind of thing` and then asked if i had enough play time with my toy.

I replied yea iv had enough, so why dont you get me a rhum and coke and sandwhich.

oh i`m never flying WESTJET again ;)

7. I don't usally post here im just a lurker

While I was on the train meeting my friends in the city. I was playing mkds. Somone futher down the train must've had it becuase I picked them up on picto chat e.t.c e.t.c cut a long story short we started playing and he/she blue shelled me and I bluw up just before I hit the finish line. I then proceeded to stand up shaking my ds shouted " YOU FUCKING WANKER " several times. I was then told if I was lucky there was no children on the train or else I will be kicked off. Then I started playing it and I started grring and shaking the ds screen open and close in a rage of madness

8. she wanted you to play with her adult toys

My friend and I were waiting in line for xbox 360's and we were the only two out there playing MKDS rather than staring at the ground. I kept cursing at the damn psychic snowmen so much that someone in the crowd started repeating it.

but damn it was fun (though kinda surreal running on no sleep)

9. I play my PSP or DS on the Commuter train and subway in Boston every day but don' get any odd looks. Of course, I'm not saying a dogs name loudly and repeatedly. :P

I did however get to watch another guy (mid to late 20's?) getting very frustrated with Super Monkey Ball for DS, with a couple explatives. His headphones probably kept him in his own little spheroid world, but the girl next to him was giving him some funny looks. Also the frustrated look on his face was great! :D

10. Trying to review Wario Ware: Touched!... Getting light-headed from the robot mini-games where you have to blow into the mic. That got an interesting reaction. And anything to do with Nintendogs, ever. Or trying to explain to someone what Animal Crossing is about. "Its... you... make a nice house..."

Posted at 2:02PM on Jan 17th 2006 by Squints 1 star

11. You should try playing Wario Ware Touched in public. The first days after I got it, I just couldn't stop playing on it. So, combining this with the 4 hour long colleges given in university, gives you a funny mix of amazement from your friends and weird looks and comments from people who see me doing all kinds of weird stuff with something about which they don't know anything and are thus uncapable of understanding the point of my actions ^_^ such as blowing in the mic or cutting vegetables at high speed.

Of course, once you show it to your ladyfriends, they become obsessively attached to it... so I had to pay attention to what the professor had to say while they were enjoying themselves -_- damn the female attraction ratio of the DS!!

12. Anytime I go to the mall I take my DS with me, buy something from the Starbucks, then sit down and WI FI with either Animal Crossing or Mario Kart. People are always walking past me just glancing. Guess it isnt everyday you see someone playing with a portable here in Georgia haha.

One time when I was playing Mario Kart a little asian boy was there watching me through the window at Starbucks. Felt kinda awkward but kept playing haha.

13. Mostly just Nintendogs. Anyone who has played nintendogs in public has gotten thier fare share of looks. I curse at mine if they don't listen to me ... people don't like that.

14. I play on the train home from work everyday. Lately I've mostly been playing Animal Crossing, but I played a bit of Ouendan yesterday and I had to struggle not to get too frustrated. I was playing on the highest difficulty level and it can be a real bitch sometimes, especially if you have to keep repeating your least favourite song. I know that to a lot of people I look immature playing it but I really couldn't care less.

15. My friends and I play at school whenever there's enough time to do so. Every time we play a game, there's always someone getting real close and being some smart ass and going "Go DS players! Go!!!" and whatnot. Sometimes we'll get some laughing at us, and some weird stares. It dosn't really bother us since there's also some PSP players not too far down the hall, but they don't get the smart ass remarks from some like we do.
Why does the DS have to be mocked this way?!

16. Pretty much the same as #3.

I was calling my Nintendog "Chibi Chibi Chibi!" people walked by stared at me mumbled something and moved on.
Here I was a 23year old male yelling at some handheld device but I had no shame.

17. I was on the Tube yesterday and had ACWW turned on. I am in my mid-20s now and playing what many in London perceived as a 'kiddies' game console (and a game which involved me running around collecting food) did earn me quite a few quirky glances.

I notice that London commuters don't play much portable games - most of them prefer listening to their iThingies. The most I have ever seen on the Tube are kids with SPs and only one of two adults with PSPs.

19. Animal Crossing, on the bus going to work. Being that I'm a 37 year old father, I get my fair share of looks from folks. Ah well!

20. I mostly play my DS at the library, because it has WiFi, and people give me the weirdest looks... Why do so many people think that that is weird or somethin? They look like I am playing with a little alien... I try to just ignore them but it gets annoying really fast.

When I had just got my DS I went to the library to try out wifi and such, and this kid came up to me and said "Wow! Is that a nintendo DS? I have always wanted one of those!" I just kept saying "yeah...." I had to leave the library because he wouldn't leave me alone! Tulsa ok
