Cooking Mama all out of ingredients?

One of the journals over at Ars Technica recently documented some trials and tribulations in attempting to find the recently-released Cooking Mama for the DS. With a desire to prepare virtual meals, Ben Kuchera stormed many of his local brick-and-mortar retail outlets to no avail. In leaving the physical world and entering one filled with electronic webs, Ben wasn't able to procure virtual satisfaction either as all the sites he checked stated the game was on backorder.

So what say you fine reader? Have you had any difficulty in snagging this at retail? Or perhaps you are the pre-ordering type?

[Thanks Nushio!]

1. I didn't think it was even out yet. It's in the Target ad this week, so I doubt there will be any trouble finding itcome tomorrow. It's only $19.99 too.

2. I tried to buy it at gamestop and ebgames, in fact I tried to pre-order it and their systems wouldn't even let me do that. I was frustrated but had no idea where to go, so now I guess I will have to wait just to see where I can get a copy.

3. Got it at GameCrazy, where I also pre-ordered my Wii back in January by the way. Tried GameStop first and of course that was a bust however, if I had been looking for Super Amazing Generic {insert sports game of choice} Yearly Update, Im sure they would have had it.

4. had a heck of a time finding my copy, but i ended up getting it at a gamestop. i checked on their website to see which stores in the area had copies

5. Haven't found it and I have no intention to. This game doesn't look to be anything I'm remotely interested in.

6. I had no trouble finding this game. It was right on the Gamestop shelf. I didn't snag it, but it was there. My guess is that this will go the way of Phoenix Wright and become a rather difficult title to spot.

7. MMM Amazon was supposed to have shipped this to me a week ago. No update on the item status. Lots of online places have it. I fired off an email asking about it.

Apparently a lot of people are saying it's sold out at a lot of stores. I think Majesco underestimated the demand like Atlus did with Tramua Center and Capcom did with Phoenix Wright.

8. (I could've sworn that I already posted here...)

Found it at EB Games without a problem. Same goes for a friend.

The downside is, before the merger with GameStop, you could reserve almost any product that was coming out, regardless of price or type. Now, it seems that their systems can't take preorders on games $20 or less unless it's a guaranteed seller (see: GTA:LCS on PS2).

Majesco might have underestimated quantities for the game, but the same could be said for the buyers at any retail outlet. I mean, they certainly aren't going to order a couple hundred thousand copies of such a niche title unless it looks like it will sell through (read: Katamari V1.0)

9. I was going to post something about downloading it from usenet while you wait for it ship, but then I decided not to...

10. I was going to buy it at gamestop, and they tried to sell me an already opened copy as new with their stupid stickers mucking up the box. I asked for one still in the plastic and they said, this was the last copy. whatever. I'll just go somewhere else.

11. Kevin!

I don't recommend downloading it as that is illegal and you would have a bruised conscience.

The only download I have found so far is packaged with 120 other DS games so you would have sore thumbs too... :P

12. wow only 20$ canadian on amazon.ca too... and their other prices are quite decent too, like children of mana, FF3, contact... all under 35$

you guys gotta realize video game prices in Canada are usually double what you guys have to pay in the USA... so this is a first for us!

13. I've seen several copies on the shelves at Best Buy, so I put off on it and got Megaman ZX and Mario Hoops. I might get it later today.

14. Regarding downloading it, as far as I know you might have a hard time getting it to run anyway as the current emulation software hasn't gotten that good yet.

Up here in fairly remote Grand Forks, ND, out of three Gamestop/Software Etc's in town, one is sold out, one still has a couple and I am going to pick it up today there, and the other one I didn't check. Last week anyway, neither Best Buy, Target or Wal-Mart had it.

15. Just read the comment from Canada...back when Castlevania was new I was so desperate to get that and a few other games I actually did go up to Winnipeg to, among other things, get those games.

16. i found a copy 2 days after the scheduled release date at my local Gamestop. they said they had got 3 copies total in the day after release and by the time i got there they had 1 copy left which was the "floor" copy that was open for display.

i am a proud owner of this game, its tons of fun!

17. My Best Buy's got plenty of them.

18. I know that if I actually wanted Cooking Mama around here (the Northern KY - Greater Cincinnati area), it's in every Gamestop and Best Buy. It didn't sell terribly well here. :)

(I'm still thinking about it.)

19. Seems like they only pressed about 25 copies of it... I'm still waiting on Amazon since I'm getting it essentially for free there, but I haven't even seen it in any B&M's locally :/

And darn it, it's number 9 in games on Amazon.com.
