Geometry Wars: Galaxies price's volume decreases by a third

We've gone over why Geometry Wars: Galaxies was worth its full $30 price several times already despite its cheaper Xbox Live Arcade predecessor -- portability, a robust campaign, a cooperative mode, touchscreen support, drones, etc.

Now that the game has seen a universal price drop, bringing its retail price to $19.99, right in that budget-title range, you'll have a tougher time arguing that the added features aren't worth the price. Basically, if you're a fan of multi-directional shooters and if you have twenty bucks just laying around, pick this up!

New York Times one half

With the release of Crosswords DS this week, will a $10 price cut compel you to buy New York Times Crosswords instead?

Amazon's "Deal of the Day" happens to be everyone's favorite alf-loving crossword game (again). While $10 for any game is hard to resist, keep in mind that puzzles from the New York Times are tough -- make sure you have the mental fortitude before picking this one up. You might also want to note, though, that Mother's Day will be here soon, and this might make a nice, cheap gift for DS-owning moms.

Bargain Explorer: Sale Unit

If Shiren the Wanderer's turn-based system was too slow-paced to satisfy your dungeon crawling needs, you might want to look into Dungeon Explorer: Warriors of Ancient Arts, Hudson's Diablo-esque hack-and-slash follow-up to the original TurboGrafx-16 game. Amazon has Dungeon Explorer discounted to $19.49, a generous price considering the game includes online support for up to four players and even a bit of voice chat.

And if you're neither a fan of dungeon crawling or dungeon exploring -- perhaps you just want to steer clear of dungeons altogether -- Amazon also has LifeSigns: Surgical Unit marked down to $19.49. While the LifeSigns series isn't as popular as that other surgery sim, Trauma Center, apparently a few of our readers are big fans of the game!

Master of Price Cuts

We're losing count of how many times we've brought you news of Master of Illusion being offered at a lower price, and now it's cheap again! Newegg.com has the quirky (and rather decent) magic trainer on sale for $15.99, plus $2.99 postage.

We know that this has been even cheaper in the past, but we also know that magic continues to be serious business. So buy Master of Illusion today, and no longer will your bungled card tricks be greeted by awkward, slightly pitiful silences at dinner parties; indeed, we expect you all to be sawing siblings in half by the end of the week.

The World Ends at $29.99

The early birds may catch the worms, but the late adapters catch the sales. So, those of you who haven't yet succumbed to Square Enix's high-and-mighty game tax but still want a copy of The World Ends With You are in luck.

Until Sunday (we assume, so don't quote us on that), you can grab the game at both Amazon and Circuit City (dot com or brick and mortar) for the ~~low~~ reasonable price of $29.99. Should you not want to leave the comfort of your own home (or, like this blogger, you just don't live near a Circuit City), then each online deal has its pros and cons. Both sites offer free shipping, but Circuit City adds tax to the order. Amazon, on the other hand, doesn't add tax but the game isn't in stock at the moment. Therefore, it will take two to four weeks (according to the website) for Amazon orders to ship.

Either way, if you have your eye on this game, we recommend biting on one of these deals because Squeenix's $40 DS game standard hurts.

Note: Amazon is trying to fool you into buying the copies that are in stock for $39.79 (via Hubbagames), so don't fall for it. If the link directs you to the wrong place, you should see this on the right side of your screen. Just click "Add to Cart" on the choice that says $29.99, and voilà.

Wal-Mart puts GBA stock on sale

For all of you folk who enjoy using that other game slot on your DS, take note: Wal-Mart is having a sale on select titles. Whether you go with the option of picking up 2 games for $20, or 3 games for $25, it's a fairly decent deal, if we may say so.

To sweeten the deal even more, they're allowing you to choose from some compilation games, as well. Titles such as Risk, Battleship & Clue, and Centipede, Breakout & Warlords (!). So, if you're trying to bulk up your collection, you might want to head on over there and check out what titles they have on offer.

Also of note is the retailer's sale on DS games, but we're not sure there's much in their stock worth noting, except for Sonic Rush.

Prices dropping like flies: Insecticide markdown

Insecticide never seemed like a title destined to set the sales charts on fire, so we're not surprised to see retailers already marking down the noir title. Less than two months after Insecticide's release, Amazon, GameStop, and other shops have chopped the half-adventure, half-platforming game down to $19.99, a two-thirds its original price.

And if that's still too much for you, you could buy Nirvana's Incesticide for only $7.97, less than half of Insecticide's price. What's the difference between the two, you ask? Well, it just so happens that we've put together a lovely comparison guide that should help you with that question.

Final Fantasy III settles at $19.99

It's not the lowest price we've seen the remade Final Fantasy III sell for, but Gamestop's latest price drop isn't bounded by a sale period. Now that Final Fantasy IV is on the way, it's just the right time to drop Final Fantasy III to $20 and use it as a marketing tool for the new game. That's our theory, anyway.

That's not to say you necessarily have to feel like a pawn in some devious plan -- you can just buy a cheap game and enjoy hours and hours of dungeons and leveling. Cheap RPGs are great, because you get so much entertainment for the price.

Phantom Hourglass now under $20 at RadioShack

If you still haven't picked up Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, then what's taken you so long? Actually, never mind that -- we've no time for excuses, and neither have you. RadioShack is selling Link's brilliant, award-winning adventure (and officially Famitsu's game of 2007) for just $19.97, but supplies are limited, and will be gone ~~once the sand runs out~~ soon.

Bear in mind that this is an in-store offer only, so you'll have to troop over to your local RadioShack. It's totally worth it though, because aside from some (cough) slight repetition in the use of dungeons, Phantom Hourglass is a fine, fine way to spend 20-odd hours. And hey, if someone here does get a copy, yours truly might actually have an opponent for Game Night!

Here come Amazon's Gold Box deals [update 2]

Just a reminder to all you friendly folks in the U.S. -- Amazon is having crazy DS deals today.

The retailer kicked off its Gold Box sales awesomely, offering Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for $16.99. If we don't say so ourselves, that is damn sweet. You have until 12am Pacific time to bite on this, but we recommend getting it sooner rather than later because we doubt supplies will last.

As for the lightning deals, we've listed them here (with our guesses for ones that haven't been confirmed yet). Keep in mind, these are in Pacific time, and each deal lasts for four hours (assuming they don't go out of stock):

6am-10am: "Will you answer the call?" - Confirmed: Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for $18.99
10am-2pm: "Dazzle your unsuspecting friends with your magical prowess." - Confirmed: Master of Illusion for $14.99.
2pm-6pm: "Protect the Earth, destroy the invaders." - Confirmed: Tranformers: Autobots
6pm-10pm: "Your destiny awaits. Experience the power." - (Our guess: Naruto: Ninja Destiny)

We suppose that with such an awesome "Deal of the Day," we can forgive Amazon for everything else being subpar. Keep in mind, though, that these are just our guesses. We'll update the post as other sales are confirmed.

2007 worldwide financial results: Nintendo still rich

Nintendo has announced their financial results for the full fiscal year 2007, and it's good news all around for people who make money from sales of Nintendo products. Total sales rose a remarkable 73%, up to 1.67 trillion yen ($16.1 billion). Profits are up 47.7 percent from last year, up to 257.3 billion yen ($2.5 billion)

Sales were up by 73.0 percent over the last twelve months to a total of ¥1.67 trillion ($16.1bn), and profits up 47.7 percent to ¥257.3 billion ($2.5bn). On the DS front, the little handheld sold another 30.31 million units, giving it a ridiculous total worldwide sales count of 70.6 million. Big sellers in software include both Pokemans (9.56 million in FY 2007, total 14.77 million) and, of course, the Brain Ages (11.81 million, total 23.81 million). There are now 57 million-selling games (and non-games) on the DS.

Nintendo has predicted only a 7.8 percent increase in sales for the new fiscal year, to 1.8 trillion yen. They cite the falling dollar, but really, they should be conservative in their estimate because how much more could Nintendo's sales go up?

Tomorrow's Amazon Gold Box rumored to feature DS games

The word on the street is that Amazon's next game-related Gold Box special is going to feature five DS games, which (as you can imagine) we're very excited about.

The first deal in the Gold Box is the video game "Deal of the Day," and will be made available tonight (technically tomorrow) at 12am Pacific time (or 3am EDT, if you're on the East Coast like this blogger). We know that's ridiculously late to stay up for a deal, but the beauty of it is that you don't have to. Whatever the game is (many are guessing Mario Kart DS because of the upcoming Wii game, but who knows!), it will be on sale for twenty-four hours or until stock runs out.

The other four sales are considered "Lightning Deals," since the marked-down prices only last for four hours (or while supplies last). The first of these will start at 6am Pacific time, while the rest will be made available at 10am, 2pm, and 6pm.

We have some ideas of our own, but what are you hoping to see on sale?

Bleach sale: Time to stonewash your DS

Sega may be releasing Bleach: Dark Souls stateside this summer, but that doesn't mean you should pass up on this $18.99 Amazon deal for the original fighter, Bleach: The Blade of Fate. Really, the discounted title shares the same selling points as its sequel:

Single-cart multiplayer
Four-player battles
Supports online matches

The only advantages Dark Souls seems to have over The Blade of Fate are its new story and its expanded roster of 44 playable characters. Who actually needs that many characters?!

Get your Pokemons for cheap at Circuit City

Circuit City seems to be the place to go for cheap Pokemon games this week. While a few stores are offering Pokemon related deals to celebrate the release of the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games, Circuit City has some of the better ones that we've seen.

The best deal is Pokemon Emerald for the GBA, which the retailer is offering for $14.99. If you want something more modern, though, you could pick up either Diamond or Pearl, which are marked down to $24.99 for the week. Also, if your sights are set on one of the Mystery Dungeon games, purchasing one at Circuit City will net you a free Pokemon action figure. Unfortunately, we don't know what these figures look like, but since they're free with the purchase, we're not all that concerned.

The best part is that these deals are offered online at CircuitCity.com, too, so you don't have to actually leave the comfort of your own home and, you know, socialize.
