So that's it: Taito's amazing paddle controller won't be leaving Japan. But really, if Square Enix thinks we're going to take this lying down, and be forced to play Space Invaders Extreme and Arkanoid sans paddle, then it can think again.
The Nintendo DS has a long way to go before it can match the Xbox 360's online features and capabilities, but that doesn't mean we're any less jealous of the XBLA-only Puzzle Quest "1.5" add-on. In addition to a new story and arch-villain (Antharg, Lord of the Plague), the expansion pack will feature new spells, items, and quests. The upgrades we're extra envious about, though, are the new classes -- Bard, Rogue, Ranger, and Warlock.
With Nintendo's recent announcement about "Pay and Play" for the Wii, we have to admit -- we're a little worried. The company didn't say that it would be bringing this service to the DS, but we're sure the idea is being considered.

First, the DS was popping up in schools all over the world, as a tool to get students excited about learning. Now Nintendo's latest is following suit, but in a different way: the Wii is being used to promote fitness and exercise as a tool for virtual P.E. Not only does this bode well for Nintendo's efforts in world domination, but it also adds an interesting dimension to the future of gaming as a whole.
Yesterday's New York Times article featuring the heartening words of our own Reggie Fils-Aime also included a few choice tidbits from analyst Michael Pachter, who still seems to think that the Nintendo DS is "a kid's device." Despite the release of a mature game last year, the move toward media and other DS uses in Japan, and the thriving all-ages homebrew community, the DS just can't seem to shake the image. Of course, we turn to you to give us the truth. Our best guess is that we've got readers who run the gamut of ages. Is that the case?
