DS Fanboy poll: Demos: do you dabble?
The Wii's Nintendo Channel, then. It's enjoyed a somewhat shaky start if you ask us, particularly where DS demos are concerned. Although we love occasionally receiving bite-size portions of games such as Arkanoid, most demos are ... well, to be frank, they're old. Not just regular old, either, but Jesus and his pet triceratops trekking across the ravaged plains of Pangaea old.
The situation is especially grim in Europe, where Tetris DS (original release date: April 2006) has just joined a list that includes (amongst others) the ancient likes of Big Brain Academy, Brain Training, Mario Kart DS, 42 All-Time Classics, and Sight Training. Needless to say, we've only downloaded a small handful of games since the service debuted. To us, a demo of Brain Training is about as useful as a plasticine climbing frame.
Then again, maybe we're being overly critical, grumbly bastards. Maybe some of you good people actually get quite a lot of use out of the service. So we thought we'd throw this issue open to you, our beloved readers, and ask: how often do you use the Nintendo Channel demos?

DS Fanboy poll: Would you buy Puzzle Quest '1.5'?
The Nintendo DS has a long way to go before it can match the Xbox 360's online features and capabilities, but that doesn't mean we're any less jealous of the XBLA-only Puzzle Quest "1.5" add-on. In addition to a new story and arch-villain (Antharg, Lord of the Plague), the expansion pack will feature new spells, items, and quests. The upgrades we're extra envious about, though, are the new classes -- Bard, Rogue, Ranger, and Warlock.Seeing as the DS edition of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords doesn't allow for downloadable content, if the expansion pack were to come out for the DS, it would have to be on a new cart. We doubt D3 will bother with porting the game, but we're interested to find out if you'd buy a Puzzle Quest 1.5, provided that the game allowed you to migrate your old character, of course.

DS Fanboy poll: Pay And Play
With Nintendo's recent announcement about "Pay and Play" for the Wii, we have to admit -- we're a little worried. The company didn't say that it would be bringing this service to the DS, but we're sure the idea is being considered.In case you missed it, "Pay and Play" will require Wii owners to subscribe to certain games that they use online services for. Titles requiring this service will have a red icon on the box indicating that the users must pay to play, rather than the lovable blue Wi-Fi circle pictured here. (Note: More details on "Pay and Play" have yet to be released, so it's still unclear what online services will require users to pay.)
So, it's time to put on your analyst caps. Will DS owners face the same fate as their Wii counterparts? We think it won't happen, since there's no convenient way of shelling out money over the DS (it has no equivalent to Wii Points). But, what do you think?

So, with the latest and greatest news involving a new Cobalt Blue DS Lite (hey, we're giving one away!), we were wondering what the stance is on the other models. Which do you own? Which you do feel is the superior color scheme for your favorite handheld unit? No better way to label final answer on such an important question than by asking you, the reader, what you think.

DS Fanboy Poll: Education vs. exercise, DS vs. Wii
First, the DS was popping up in schools all over the world, as a tool to get students excited about learning. Now Nintendo's latest is following suit, but in a different way: the Wii is being used to promote fitness and exercise as a tool for virtual P.E. Not only does this bode well for Nintendo's efforts in world domination, but it also adds an interesting dimension to the future of gaming as a whole.But it also opens up an interesting question for us Nintendo fans to consider. Which system will be more successful, worldwide, in schools? Will the DS do more to prop up education, or will the Wii help get kids moving? Of course, it must be mentioned that the DS can be used as an exercise tool as well. After all, it's important to know how to walk.
DS Fanboy Poll: Only for kids?
Yesterday's New York Times article featuring the heartening words of our own Reggie Fils-Aime also included a few choice tidbits from analyst Michael Pachter, who still seems to think that the Nintendo DS is "a kid's device." Despite the release of a mature game last year, the move toward media and other DS uses in Japan, and the thriving all-ages homebrew community, the DS just can't seem to shake the image. We asked, and as always, you guys delivered. While the top-voted game of the year will probably come as no surprise to anyone, especially since it ran away with all the votes, the other five games that topped out in our readers' choice polls demonstrate not only the wide variety of content on the DS, but the depth of taste among DS Fanboy readers, as well. While the top games were above and beyond, every title feature snagged its fair share of votes. This can only mean one thing: it was one hell of a good year to be a DS owner.
