When we heard the US would finally be able to choose what color DS Lite they'd prefer to rock, no longer to be bound by a choice-restricted, Polar White existence, we were almost arrested for how much we celebrated the news. Upon Nintendo laying the announcement on us, we ran out into the street and ripped off our pants in celebration, in what was later described by one key witness as "quite the struggle, I mean, that man was ripping at his pants for a good 15 minutes before he found a pair of scissors and cut them off. I would've stopped watching, but I don't really have a job..." The old man then asked us if we'd be willing to go out some time, maybe to a movie. We asked for a raincheck...
Creepy old men on the street aside, we will be storming our local retail outlets later on this afternoon to procure both Onyx and Pink (in case we ever find a woman who doesn't take out a restraining order against us that we may give it to, which we probably won't) in the bold fashion we've become accustomed to. Upon acquiring each model, we'll hold them high above our heads in the parking lot and scream at the top of our lungs until security drags us away.

my girlfriend got a pink yesterday and the build quality seems MUCH nicer than my original white... the screen 'thuds' into place rather than 'clicking' and the volume slider is smother and tighter than mine... also the fitment of the screens has no gaps, not even tiny ones... either she got extremely lucky or they upped the quality since the lite's debut.

I should have held out. I've got a nice white model, but ever since I laid eyes on the european black models I've craved it. Now it's here in the States and it would be a waste to get another DS. But, I want it. So bad.

@2 I noticed that too.... The Coral one does seem to have a little higher quality fit and finish and the L+R shoulder buttons actually match the color of the unit better than the white ones do.... Teh white DS shoulder buttons are an off white

I got a pink DS Lite yesterday. It's a very light pink color, under certain light I can't tell that it's pink and I have to hold it next to .ed's crystal white until my eyes adjust.
It was well worth the wait, and I agree with .ed, the second batch seems to have all the kinks worked out.
If I had bought a White Lite, I'd probably be very upset right now.

I will, however, be picking up a Pink DS for my mom, who has become addicted to Tetris DS and Meteos. Add in Konductra and Magnetica and I'll probably get challenged every time I visit home.

Hmm, I was just going to comment that I have had teh original US version white ds and had have no hinge cracking problems.....but then I looked down at my DS...yes its on my desk at work.....I know Im a geek... and guess what NIce little crack plain as day sunnofa.. anyone got that 800 number handy

I got my black DS Lite while in Europe this summer. I've been back for a few weeks, but unfortunatly I've yet to by the US power adapter for it, so I've been playing my phat. I had TONS of problems procuring one with out anydefects though. First horrbile d-pad issues. Diagonal control in AC:WW was all but impossible. Then exchanged for one with dead pixel. Then exchanged for ANOTHER with a dead pixel. My fourth seemed ok, but then I noticed it has the yellow tinted bottom screen. But I'm stuck with it. I guess it's ok, but deep down, I'm kinda pissed. I want it to be perfect :( Then I got home and found out that a week later the black ones were coming out here. DOH! Oh well, I did get to enjoy it during my 2 1/2 months euro-trip... (stupid yellow tinty screen.. damn it..)

Well anytime they drastically increase production you can expect issues with the first few runs. Factory problems have to be ironed out, worker problems as well.
