According to the group's progress table, only a few sections still need translation (e.g. monster descriptions, location names), so a full and final English patch doesn't seem too far off. A Translation Wiki is also available for those missing bits or for those of you who'd rather pass on using the patch altogether.
Square Enix has yet to announce its plans for Final Fantasy IV's release outside of Japan. Our best guess? Mid-to-late 2008.

Last time I was in the forums, I don't think the patch was focusing on the story translation (yet)...but rather names, menus, spells, etc.
Personally, the most exciting thing going on in gbatemp right now is the Jump Ulimate Stars translation. The community is also nice there...there's a good feeling of working together on things.

you're right -- unfortunately, belmontslayer and the rest of the translation team are NOT currently working on the story text. belmontslayer contacted us to let us know, and the post should now reflect that fact.

Well, I've finally got enough reason to join DSfanboy. I've been lurking forever, but...
Well, I contributed to this patch. Not in anything big, but I suggested they use the classic versions of spells and items (I.E. Ice, Ice2, Ice3, FenixDown, etc.) for added cleanliness. Before they just used something like "Blzga"
