DS Daily: Choose your own topic

You guys don't seem to be quite as talkative around here as you are on the other side of things, so we wanted to ask, straight up, what do you want to talk about? Remember, if you're having technical issues and want to get opinions from others, you can always let us know and we'll be happy to pose the question to all. Same with any other kind of issue or question. (Almost) anything goes.

So, today: if you have a complaint, pony up. Have a suggestion? Have at it. Just don't talk about our mommas or anything; we tend to get riled up if people aren't polite. Otherwise, let's just chat. We always love hearing more about you guys, even the little things, like how you chose your posting name, or how you feel about our weekly Game Nights, or hey ... how about that DS? Pretty snazzy, eh? We think so, too. In fact, we suspect that it's just so completely awesome that sometimes, talking about it just seems redundant. The DS is, after all, pretty much the Chuck Norris of gaming systems.

Don't question it
.

1. is Final Fantasy 7 ever going to make it's way to the DS?

Posted at 11:05AM on Mar 10th 2007 by Michael

2. Hmmm, is Wii or DS the Chuck Norris of video games? Maybe they can squeeze FF7 into a 4gig DS card and have that ram cart for the browser for the extra power. The N64 was technically more powerful than the PSX and the DS is said to be around the same power as the N64, so technically the DS can handle games from PSX.

3. Somehow I'm discouraged by this reply system. I've had a few confirmation e-mails filtered on two different e-mail accounts.

Anyways, back to the topic: I'm always happy when you make reviews of games or DS accessories. Tens of posts on Final Fantasy screenshots and rumors gets boring pretty fast..

4. I think ya'll(i'm from texas)....are doing a great job, and enjoy reading your articles...more news on the homebrew scene and carts would be nice...such as this thing I thought was interesting...it might have been posted, but i think you may have missed it

5. I would like to see a clearly presented, and thorough breakdown of the pros, cons, and prices of all the DS flashcarts available.

Posted at 1:22PM on Mar 10th 2007 by Ben

6. I'd like to see less links that are just a search of the blog. I keep getting tricked by those. And I agree that more reviews & interviews would be nice.

Other than that, I really like this blog. You're always on top of the news, and you're interested in point&tap adventure games.. so, great.

7. First off, I don't like the new comment system, so I don't comment as much on any of the Joystiq/FanBoy sites any more.

More original content would be great. The Joystiq network definatly has the resources to do things like getting original interviews, previews, days out to talk to devs and such like - get out there and do it. Some recurring features might be good as well, maybe something were you discuss an obscure DS or GameBoy game each week or do retrospectives on classic GB games.

Avoiding cross posting content with Wii Fanboy and Joystiq as well. That's not to say that you shouldn't be covering the same stories as them, but try to put your own spin on it. This especially applies to the Japanese Sales figures.
I'm not going to comment on the same story presenting the same opinions three times ;)

Oh, and get some release round-ups for the Americas, Europe and Japan. I can never actually find release scheduals for the DS and it would be a really useful service.
I don't know if you have a European writer just now, but getting some more Europe-centric coverage would be nice. I have to get a lot of my news that relates to Europe from smaller blogs like the Machiavellian Nerd, 8bit Hero! and British Gaming Blog and it would be nice to see more coverage of these things from the Joystiq network.

Finally, try to phrase posts in such away that it's asking the readers to contribute. Not just tacking on 'So what do you think?' at the end of the article, but presenting an argument that readers can continue. Oh and drop in a few comments yourselves. It's always good to have the author respond to your opinions.

Anyway, keep up the good work :)

8. I'll always love this site, but variety is the spice of life. More reviews please... Interactivity is nice with Game Night but perhaps more contests could help raise traffic and communication.

Posted at 2:17PM on Mar 10th 2007 by Kurifurisan

9. Hammer up there struck gold. Every bit and byte of what he typed is absolutely right. (damn, that rhymed!)

More comments from you guys. Cross posting the least possible (since most DSFanboys have/want Wii, and viceversa, its redundant information that we usually just skip through).

More original content, or added spin. We, or at least I, come here to read your opinions (and even commenter's opinnions).

Reviews, I know you guys can't play every game and give it a fair review, and you do have meta-critic reviews, which I like, but a bit of insight in a game outside the numbers would be nice.

As for DSDaily? I'd like to ask 'What games do you have'.

Me, personally, bought Mage Knight DS and have enjoyed every single minute i've spent on it. I just love it, been playing it for over 20 hours, and not halfway done with it.

10. Valid points, all. We're supposed to be starting a podcast soon (and Dave I swear I'm going to record myself ranting for thirty minutes and post the damn thing if we don't do it soon), but in regards to cross-posting, we must assume that people in each blog don't necessarily read the other. You guys do, and maybe even most, but many people are going to miss out on relevant content if we exclude these stories. And on which do we put a "New Nintendo executive is hired" type of story? We can't pick and choose, really...

The Japanese hardware sales are, by our standards, amazingly boring, and so we take that opportunity to throw some humor into the mix. With two new bloggers, I wonder if two of us could do an edition and post one on each blog; then you guys could decide whose is better? We could even keep score; I'll run it by Alisha and Dave.

I can certainly start doing personal reviews, if you guys want them. (Super Paper Mario, here I come.)

Keep throwing out suggestions, the more we hear, the better chance some of them will be implemented ^^

11. Have a Game Night that starts at a reasonable time for us living on the west coast (e.g., 7 PM Pacific Time). I think that Game Night sounds like fun, but 4PM is just too early for me...

12. Well, regarding release roundups -- we actually do those every Monday. I include the US, Europe, Japan, and Australia, and cover the (scheduled) titles for the full week.

We didn't realize that our comments weren't showing up correctly, and are trying to fix that (stupid official e-mail address!). Also, for the fellow having trouble with confirmation e-mails: have you tried using just your new password? The confirmation system gets so bogged down sometimes, but that's just due to the sheer amount of volume. Blame Joystiq! We do. ;) If it's a real problem or you can't find your password, use the comment form I linked in the post and I will ask our tech team if there's anything we can do for help. A lot of these little issues are individual. I know it's asking a lot to request an e-mail (no, really, I know, you shouldn't have to do such a thing), but we really will try to help.

Great suggestions, everyone, and please, keep them coming. We may not be able to do everything, but we will try, and we're here for you... so we want to be what you want.

Re: FFVII: yes, please. I'd love FFVIII, too. I really enjoyed that game, though I know I may be in the minority there. And I'd love to see all the older ones redone, but I'm such a FF junkie.

On a completely unrelated note, I just want to say: OMG 300.

That is all. No more off-topic, at least for today. ;)

13. DS games suck: no voice acting...no CD quality music...crappy online games that support 2 or 4 players max and without voice chat during game play. i sold my nintendo DS and havent regretted it, aside from Mario Kart DS but ive gotten sick of that game after playing it for months.

Posted at 5:39PM on Mar 10th 2007 by IWATA

14. Ok, lets for once NOT feed the troll (IWATA) or even bother pointing out the errors in his "points".

Ok? Agreed? Just leave it. Ignore it. Done? Good fanboys.

I haven't been commenting as much lately mainly due to being busy and not seeing that many articles that i really have something to say about. I was considering mocking your choice of Wario MOD for the WRUP mascot of the week, seeing as it came after a few crap reviews of it... but that didn't get around to it. ;)

Haven't been at the game nights for the same reason sorry - had too much work to do, and haven't been feeling the need to play as much recently... In fact, after over a year I've finally stopped bothering to play AC:WW.

My months of hybrid flower growing and watering have been left behind to wilt. I probably shoulda taken a few fancy ones into my house or something... ah well.

15. more porn?

Posted at 8:16PM on Mar 10th 2007 by ESK

16. It's ebb and flow like all things I suppose. I read the site daily but comment rarely, but it's early in the year and when the big game release cycles start I'm sure the comment sections will be ablaze in flames.

Still, throwing out some reviews, release dates and some more homebrew information might be nice. You guys have an excellent site nonetheless - the comments will come when there's more going on in the DS world to be opinionated about!

Posted at 11:02PM on Mar 10th 2007 by spinthelights

17. Our own topic, hmm...

I dont know really. I think this site covers DS news and stuff better than any other DS site out there, and I come here every day. I know comments are scarce, but I think saying "hey thats great" in every post would be a bit too monotonous.

I would like to see more homebrew stuff, I know that was something discussed a few weeks ago. But I'll tell you this, what is really needed is a definitive hardcore guide on DS homebrew. I know theres a lot of info out there, but its all scattered, and half of the stuff refers you to some over-posted forum then leaves you to seek out the info yourself, leaving you to wonder "is this the latest version of this app" or "am I doing it right" or "will this work with the hardware Im using to homebrew (supercard etc)".

What would be nice would be something like "you need A+B to = C, here are the links to download from, here is how you do it and here is further information".

Also, wtf ever happened to that favicon you guys were getting? Does it really take 3+ months to put in one line of "favicon.ico" code? I think not :P

Posted at 11:22PM on Mar 10th 2007 by xaos

18. Y'know, I'm starting to get the feeling that our tech team may simply hate us or our favicons, but they're just too polite to say so. They're usually super awesome, so I have to assume it's us, but I'll check on it (again) and see if I can get any movement on that.

19. Alisha, Jason, or whoever reads this.

I'd love to see a poll asking for age, and perhaps to a lesser point, gender, of the readers.

I'd like to get data on the average age of DS owners and Wii owners, though I expect it to be limited by the fact that its only 'WiiFanboy'/'DSFanboy' readers data, it should be good enough.

Posted at 3:39AM on Mar 11th 2007 by Nushio

20. Oh and Jason, regarding cross-posting, you missunderstood.

We didn't mean you should have to pick on which will it end up, but that the same story should be 'worded' differently, as to sound, you know, different on both sides of the river, whenever it applies.

I know its too big of a hassle, writing the same story twice, but you might want to cooperate with a fellow blogger so that one writes the story for DSFanboy while the other, for Wii Fanboy. That would work, right?
