Gordon Freeman invades Animal Crossing

We guess the incident at Black Mesa opened up more portals than the crowbar-wielding scientist could have known. One of which clearly led to Animal Crossing: Wild World, as evidenced by the image to the right. Along with Gordan, you can see a Combine soldier standing about. Why that Combine soldier is probably waiting to knock over a can and force Gordon to dispose of it in the nearest receptacle!

Other cool dress-up scenes include Call of Duty 4, Brokeback Mountain and the Mario brothers' kitchen. Oh, and Hitler. You can't have customization in a video game without creating the world's most evil dude.

Here come Amazon's Gold Box deals [update 2]

Just a reminder to all you friendly folks in the U.S. -- Amazon is having crazy DS deals today.

The retailer kicked off its Gold Box sales awesomely, offering Advance Wars: Days of Ruin for $16.99. If we don't say so ourselves, that is damn sweet. You have until 12am Pacific time to bite on this, but we recommend getting it sooner rather than later because we doubt supplies will last.

As for the lightning deals, we've listed them here (with our guesses for ones that haven't been confirmed yet). Keep in mind, these are in Pacific time, and each deal lasts for four hours (assuming they don't go out of stock):
We suppose that with such an awesome "Deal of the Day," we can forgive Amazon for everything else being subpar. Keep in mind, though, that these are just our guesses. We'll update the post as other sales are confirmed.

[Update 1: Master of Illusion was confirmed as the second lightning deal and was added to the post.]

[Update 2: Transformers: Autobots is the third lightning deal. And, would you look at that -- Master of Illusion sold out. Who would have thought?]

Promotional Consideration: Commercial of Duty

Promotional Consideration is a weekly feature about the Nintendo DS advertisements you usually flip past, change the channel on, or just tune out.

Though Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has sold exceptionally well in North America, topping the software charts for its PC and console releases, Activision is smart enough to know that marketing the title in Japan, where the DS is king and first-person shooter sales is an oxymoron, requires a different strategy.

The result? Activision actually produced a 30-second spot specifically for the DS version of the multiplatform game ...

DS releases for the week of March 10th

What a week for DS releases! Of course, in the shadow of a certain release on the Wii side of the Nintendo fence, a big week was probably necessary, but that doesn't make it any less exciting. Though there are only three DS titles scheduled for release, each one has something going for it. How often does that happen?
  • Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates
  • Insecticide
  • Nanostray 2
In fact, there's a lot to look forward to all around the world. Europe's scoring Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker and Bomberman Land Touch! 2, among other titles, and Japan boasts our beloved Contra 4 (there, Dual Spirits), and the hilarious Duel Love. Surely you can find some time to tear yourself away from beatdowns for one of these.

Video tours of Modern Combat

GameSpot uploaded a pair of new videos for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and we must say our salivation for the title gets more abundant and disgusting by the minute. In fact, we can't wear a shirt for more than a few minutes before drenching it in our own nasty mouth juices. Actually, we should probably stop talking about spit.

So, head past the break and check out another video.

Joystiq test drives Call of Duty 4

From our first look at the game, we thought Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was going to be a shining example of how a game in the FPS genre should be handled on the handheld. And, after reading the impressions Joystiq gave after some play time with the title, we're glad to hear that the title is shaping up to be just that.

The game, which switches between FPS segments, on-rail helicopter gunner sequences, bomb-disarming moments and AC-130 gunship sections. And, in all of this diversity, the game doesn't falter a bit. Joystiq lets us know that a lot of thought and care went into the game, from the controls down to each segment of gameplay.

Sounds like we've got another game to add to our library.

We debate the hot topics!
