The
Toys R Us in Hong Kong has tons of import games available. That's the benefit of not having a Nintendo distributor in the region, apparently. And while this picture may present an importer's paradise, it should be noted that the retail chain doesn't have everything available.
Still, we would be lying if we said we weren't jealous. All of our Toys R Us stores here only have clueless and apathetic employees.

Conversion rate is about HK$7.8-US$1. Their prices aren't terrible, but the games will be cheaper at the computer malls, particularly 188 and Golden.

My local Toys R Us has this old lady whose been working there since I was a kid, going into my teen years. Looks like she runs Electronics now. She's been there since you had to bring a ticket to the counter and wait while the employee disappeared into the corridor. Good stuff.

Well, if there's no official local distributor, wouldn't that mean every game in the city is necessarily imported?

No- I think they have some local stuff, but not a whole lot.
I really want that silver DS.

OK, I take offense to your your statement about Toys R US employees. I've been working at a TRU for a couple of months now, and while I admit many (most) of my coworkers are clueless about video games, and apathetic in the sense that they don't take an interest in finding out more, I am an avid gamer and I'm able to answer most questions that are thrown at me with reasonable certainty. Also, you are quick to comment about how clueless we are, yet the consumer, who is eagerly shelling out hundreds of dollars on video game equipment, can't be bother to do a quick Google inquiry before leaving the house?
Side note: Generally, spending excess time trying to inform soccer moms about games for their 7 year old daughters on the PSP, or trying to convince them to spend $10 more on a good game (Nintendogs) over a bargain imitation (Petz Hamsters) tends to slow down the line.

I'd just like to state that it would be nice if American Toys R Us stores had the same lineup their HK counterpart did.

Ooh. I never thought about HK Toys R Us this way... prices are usually lower at specialist shops as earlier stated.
I'm from Hong Kong, and when it comes to DS games... we have none. Nor do we have PS2/PSP/anything other than PC games. That are well-known, anyway. I think we tend to focus on online games..
