Releasing to the Japanese gaming public on July 24th, the Opera web browser for the DS will initially only be sold online for 3,800 Yen (around $33 US) and come standard with a memory expansion pack. Nothing has been said as to release date for US launch of the browser, but we assume we'll be hearing more once July 24th hits and Japanese impressions are measured.

awesome! I really hope the US release isn't long after that. I wonder if the Japanese version will be region coded though?

It's cool. I've been following this for some time now. Still, I dislike the whole idea of a monthly fee. If they somehow miraculously drop the monthly fee, then i'm so in on this.

Oh very nice!
It's probably best I wait for a US release though, I don't want a Japanese interface. (Though maybe you'll get an English option?)

Finally, a cheap way to use wi-fi hotspots. I wonder if it will be able to do AJAX? Though most mobile browsers don't, it'd be cool to access my Netvibes.

So, I was the first non-opera, non-nintendo human to use the DS Browser, aside from a handful of selected press, on Tuesday morning in Seattle at Opera's Opera 9.0 invite only launch event. so don't believe anything anyone says.
there is no monthly fee.

that's me with the clunky prototype development cart sticking out the back.
and it is really really easy to use, there is a help systems and a tips and tricks system, for those familiar with opera mini, there is a mode to view the pages that way, or a "DS" mode with one full screen and the other is a zoomed in view, the screens are swapable and you drag to ..well, drag.

So how does saving files work (how do you get them off the card if you can save them), and how's it fixed for flash, shockwave, etc?

The "monthly fee" thing was a rumor started by PSP fanboys who were jealous that the DS browser has the stylus and will run longer than 2 hours on a full battery charge.
I wish Nintendo would consider not making us wait for this in the States. I want it NOW!!! :D
