Or could be, at least, if you're traveling in Paris, thanks to one enterprising homebrew artiste. Christophe Andreani's "simple application" puts all of Paris at the tip of your stylus -- in map form, at least. He's worked up a neat little program that brings an entire map of the city to the DS, with zoom and stylus functionality to help you find your way around. Metro-Paris v1.0 is all there is for now, but perhaps Monsieur Andreani can be convinced to cook up a few other maps ... or other programmers will follow his lead. If nothing else, a DS Lite is certainly more stylish than that old, beat-up Rand McNally that lives in the floorboard of your car.[Via QJ.net]

Very nice. Now if Nintendo just took advantage of this we'd get a great application.

if i get a NDS web browser i'll probably be able to go on map sites that do this anyway. still it's good use of the DS and good work to the chap that coded it. wish i could do that sorta stuff.

I think I'd find a DS easier to navigate than my phone, particularly when combining slippery buttons and fingernails. The stylus is a big plus. I'd love to see Nintendo do more things like this themselves, but since they seem so big on the whole games-only bit, I'm glad there are people like this out there in the homebrew community.

I think this isn't the whole city map, but only the metro plan. Still, great app.

There are tons of programs available for your mobile phones that can do this already. But a nice touch nevertheless.

That's cute. I have this for my iPod, but it would be nice for my DS. I am originally from Paris, but I live in DC (Washington, DC that is) so can someone make the DC Metro map for me? Please? LOL

DS has bigger display, so it'l be better to navigate. But of course it won't be competitor to special GPS navigators

I think this is a great idea, I already keep my DS in my car glove compartment most of the time anyways. If I could have maps for all of america, or even just my area in a cart form that would eliminate the bag of maps I keep in my trunk. Can you imagine what kind of trend that might get set if someone like mapquest or google were to put out a profitable DS application? Who knows what kind of software would come next.
