Pokesav is an editor program that allows you to hack your Pokemon Diamond and Pearl saves, adding rare Pokemon, changing their abilities, and doing all kinds of crazy hacky stuff. It appears that not only can you generate any Pokemon, you can then assign them abilities outside their type, and with more PP than the abilities can usually have. You need some kind of homebrew ability to do this, obviously, since you need to get your savegames onto the computer. There's even a database of downloadable Pokemon, so you can get started cheating right away. We wouldn't recommend you use ill-gotten Pokemon online, but for your own use, we don't see why you should be bound by the limitations of the game.
Check after the break for a tutorial video sent to us by the Hall of Bards. Pokesav is serious business.

i got a friend of mine to hack me up some pokemon last night. they're technically still legit, because all he did was set the EVs to where i wanted them, just so i could avoid all the tedious training.
then he gave me a perfect MewTwo with hacked stats.

I heard going online with either D/P or Battle Rev with cheated Pokemon, Nintendo removes them.

Lol this isnt hacking, maybe if you were the person who made Pokesav you would be a hacker, but downloading and using a simple save file editor, is not hacking. Thats like saying downloading a homebrew game, and playing it, is hacking. Anyways this program has been out for ages, and only works if you have a Flash Cart or maybe an action replay.

Stfu, Crass. You think Nintendo classifies between those who create the program and those who use it? This IS hacking, you idiot. BTW, you wouldn't need just a flash cart or action replay shit, you'd need a DS cart reader. Suck on my sour skittles and taste the rainbow, you ignorant bastard.

Actually, this is the definition of hacking! It's no different than using a hex editor to "hack" any file out there--just because you didn't write the hex editor doesn't mean you're not using it to hack. That is clearly different than simply downloading and playing a homebrew game. You can download and play all kinds of games, but once you use a tool, like a hex editor or Pokesav, to alter the save files or the executables/ROM images, it's hacked.
That is all.

I'm pretty sure using any type of program/device to go beyond a game's limitations, is hacking.

Wow WTFeez, I think you've got some anger managment issues or something. Anyways I guess it all depends on how you define the word "hacker". I've always thought of Hackers as above-intelligentce users who can create programs or tools to bypass the set limits or rules of a system. And a "cheater" is just a user who might use the tools made by the hacker, without any real understanding of how the system is being exploited (unlike the hacker who knows what HEX values mean in the sav file, and wrote a program to modifiy thoes variables). So if it makes yourself feel cooler or whatever by calling you'reself a hacker cause you can download a program to modify stats on a geigh video game, then by all means go ahead.
But everyone else will think you're an asshat.
And yeah, you can use a card reader, but really how many people out there have one of thoes. Reinmoon/Eepinator or Action Replay is probably what most people are going to be using this with.
I guess apply a .IPS patch to my custom robo arena ROM makes me a elite bad ass hacker..... LOL

Clearly there is a misunderstanding here. No one is claiming to be a hacker because they use Pokesav...if they are, then I'm in agreement with you, Crass. I think we agree that Pokesav, as a tool, hacks the game save, yes? If we want to get absolutely technical, then if one were to use this hacking tool to hack their save file, they are in essence hackers--just not in the sense that they've earned it in any way, shape, or form.

Well, legit online trades are now officially dead. Damn hackers ruin the game for people who legitimately want to create a good team and complete their Pokedex.

There are some people saying that Nintendo is banning Friend Codes of cheaters: http://www.wii60.com/forum/showthread.php?t=14815
I seriously hope so, for the sake of the fun online.

It IS hacking, it IS cheating, and it is something that really shouldn't be done; honest gamers will agree.
Are YOU an honest gamer?

I'm yet to see any evidence that ninty really are banning people who cheat in pokemon - It's very easy to make a thread on a forum claiming it...
Granted, I have little interest in the issue so i havent really looked for evidence outside of this thread and the linked one.
Really though, you would think that Ninty would have expected this and put more effort into protecting the integrity of game saves. Encryption would no doubt have been overcome in time, but they could have used a number of other methods to stall hackers...

Yes, I'm an HONEST gamer. I tell whoever I'm battling, that I'm using "hacked" Pokemon. I don't do anything that goes outside the legal boundaries, I just adjust EVs and stuff, to SAVE time.
*Sigh* I hate saying this over and over again. Some people just don't have enough time, and we just want to jump with the competitive part of Pokemon, without the exhaustive training - which is really not that fun anymore, as it becomes a chore, a tiresome chore. Why waste so many hours of your life, when you could be doing other things?
What matters is that you're good at it, that you know how it works, and that you know how to beat your opponents - not that you have hundreds and hundreds of hours to train, breed, and train some more each and every one of your Pokemon; just to find out you did something wrong and you've got to put some more 30 hours for another a new one.

BTW, as long as your Pokemon is completely "legal" (ex. Charizard caught at Route No.223), that you created it and "disguised" it so it would look normal and it doesn't have stats or attacks it can't normally have, there's no way for Nintendo or anyone else to find out.

Why is it fair that you should be allowed to do that to create an awesome team super fast, when people like me who do not have a card reader, and do not want to cheat on their games- have to put the effort in?
The whole point in differing stats and evs is to add some variety to the game, so that every unoriginal trainer using an alakazam does not have the exact same alakazam, so that you can defeat or be defeated byit for different reasons instead of being blasted with the same attack nomatter who you send up against it. Breeding and legit ev training can create the ultimate pokemon- sure- but it takes so long that not everyone does it, and with that comes the hope for people who dont know how to, or dont have the time, to wander round seeking a modest whatever then killing a billion zubats so its fast as hell. If you, or anybody, hacks, it sucks away the integrity of the system, and all of a suidden the playing grounds are no longer level.
I've traded online so i probably have a couple of hacks in my PC boxes, but the pokemon i use competitively are all raised or caught from my own carts. Yep, i;ve mucked up some of them, yep, i wish i could go back and tweak them so they could learn some moves they couldnt otherwise but for the most part I dont care.
Hacking is lame.
